The challenge of jumping between so many different voices was one I struggled with initially like many others, but once I pushed through, I got into it! I love the combination of weaponry, magic, fight scenes, fantasy, romance, plants, creatures, landscapes, fashion, and kick-ass Kiwi women. Go Nicole! (less)

The covers are pretty disturbing (less Carmody-Braque-disturbing and more awkward-family-photo disturbing) but it’s well worth the challenge of getting past them if you can! As a Kiwi author, I also really appreciate the author’s skill in creating a universally appealing supernatural story that still has a strong New Zealand flavor.(less)

Dreamquake is the second in the Dreamhunter duet, and feels exactly that way. It continues right where we left off, covering enough of the first book to reconnect occasionally. After 1,000 pages of living this story, I was pleased to get a satisfying conclusion, and will miss disappearing into this world.
****Spoiler I really wish Sandy had come back sooner! I was so sad and sure that he was gone, and by the time he returned it was so close to the end of the book that the shock kind of ate into the happiness I should have felt (if that makes sense!). (less)

Delicate and beautiful imagery. I was nearly 300 pages in before I realised there was hadn’t been a love interest! And I still didn’t care! Lucky for me I have the sequel, because I really want to know what happens next! Oh, and if Dreamhunter was a cake, it would be a raspberry lamington – delicate, intricate, deceptively easy, smooth, and (surprisingly) Kiwi. (less)

Builds suspense for 262 pages, then throws in a super fast twisty wrap up (9 pages). Although the conclusion was a little too fast for me, I love that the loose ends were all sorted. This is a creepy murder mystery for young readers who are up for it. (less)

Love the male POV, the Kiwi slang, the overall themes and feel of the book, and I really liked the ending. The content (drugs, cars, gangs) just made me sad... I guess I don’t mind crying over zombies and romance, but wasted lives just rark me up! (less)
