Heinlein predicted moving sidewalks (airports) and even a moving sidewalk superhighway, where the first walk is running 2 miles per hour, next to noe moving 5, next to one moving 8, .... and so on until you are stepping from the one doing 75mph to the one doing 80! Then as you approach your destination, you begin the stepping back process until you reach the "dock". Just a wonderful way to escape reality with no drugs and at the same time stretch how far your brain allows you to go.
I can easily reach 100% insanity by now, and come back to reality within a few minutes. Good exercise.(less)

As I grew up through the sixties and '70s and 80's and 90's, the world has had the luxury to witness a somewhat linear growth in technology.
But things are different now, with robots making cars with more precision than even Rolls Royce, BMW, ... even Mercedes, which I was always attracted to because of the engineering and precision science they used to make these things last forever.
ROBOTS DO IT BETTER.
Technology is no longer growing at a linear rate. The curve on an x/y plot would be a 45 degree slant until about 2002, at which point it would start to curve upward. And as we all know, once that line starts to curve, it never straightens out back to a 45 degree slant. It becomes symptotic, or rather an exponential rate of technological discovery / practice. The first of these exponents is 2. y=x squared. y=2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,..... now we're at 8 bit binary. That was in '80. 16 bit was in 84. 32 bit in 98, etc.
All this to say we are approaching a point in technology where the processors or computers will no longer need man. Nor money. Just a little more electricity. Ice is no problem, high heat is their friend. We will just be old and in the way. (less)

About this time in my life I began an insatiable journey to figure out how everything on earth works. From a wind up alarm clock to a phpBB database to UNIX.
Experience has taught me everything, and reading teaches about experience.(less)
