However, if you're looking for something thought-provoking and deep, pick this up.
One thing I kept thinking while reading this was that it reminded me of Markus Zusak. It focused more on the characters and their thoughts than what was actually happening. Sure, a lot of things happened in this book. But it wasn't necessarily the outcome that mattered, it was more what Jimmy and Christy took out of the experience.
I didn't find either of the main characters particularly likable, which is one of the reasons this has three star instead of four. I also felt like there was needless obscenity at some parts. But I loved the writing and ideas it brought up, and I think overall it was worth it and I'm very happy to have read it....more

There's not much I want to say about this book other than it wasn't very interesting. It seemed like it would be really great. A guy with superpowers, how could it not be? I'm a sucker for those kind of things. Even after reading it and thinking about the plot it seems like it should be a good book. There were thinks happening, but it just didn't interest me. I didn't feel anything for the characters. They didn't really have a personality beyond what little there is on the surface. Jake and Francesca's romance seems to come out of nowhere. I can see why she likes him because she can feel other people's motives and such, but he doesn't really know her and yet he's in love with her.
And then there were the random aliens at the end. It was like I was reading this book that was grounded in reality, because even the special things the people could do had scientific reasons behind them, and then all of a sudden I was reading about aliens. It didn't really make sense.
So in theory, this book is amazing. When actually reading, it's rather dull. If the writing had been more extravagant it would have been much better....more

But why? Why should I just believe a person met the God-Head just because he said so?
Before I started reading this book, I thought I was going to be immersed into a place where everything is perfect, where everything that was said would be a new inspiration, and there were no faults. Not with the writing, but with what actually happens. I mean, if God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit actually came to this guy, they must have something new to say, right? Otherwise, what's the point? Why would this happen if nothing new was going to be revealed?
As I read more and more, I realized that nothing new was going to happen. Most things they said could be found in the Bible, or were just plain wrong. You can read more about that here. One of the most startling things I read was that God couldn't forgive the person who murdered Mack daughter until Mack himself did! Whatever Christian read that and thought it was right... wow. I'm utterly stunned that whoever edited this book didn't catch that, and that the writer himself didn't, either. I would hate to think that God wouldn't forgive me for something I've done just because some other person won't.
Let me give you some advice. If you are looking for a God-inspired book, just read your Bible. Even read a different edition to spice things up if you want, but don't read this....more
