Thoughts: I like a lot of sex in my m/m reading, but even I skimmed through some of the scenes in this story. If you like fantasy and/or historical types this will probably be a good read. If you like complex storylines and political intrigue, this is your book. On the other hand if m/m/m is not your thing, you may want to stay away. This book is definitely not for those who don't like SERIOUSLY flawed characters who evolve, but don't really have changes in their moral compass by many of societal standards. This is a series, so it may come; but do not read if at least a HFN ending is required.
The world building was really good. The intrigue well done. The characters were multi-layered and stayed true to their character. A lot is required of both the reader and the characters. This is not a light easy read, but in the end the journey is worth it. I do not intend on continuing the series at this time, but that is strictly due to personal preferences and knowledge of upcoming plot twists that push way more than one of my "no go" buttons.(less)

I tend to rate things based on what they are; meaning I rate a quickie as a quickie. You can't expect the same things in comparison to a longer story. That said, the author did amazingly well with the setting, the characters, and the story. The ending did feel a little abrupt but not so much as to feel cheated. The scene with the BJ was extremely hot. There was a nice balance between sex and story. In comparison to most stories of this size, it is definitely 5 stars in my book especially if you like vampires or the idea of a male "Pretty Woman". He was a male not a chick with dick.(less)

I definitely feel that one should read the previous books to get everything out of this one, but I do think it could be read without feeling too lost. I loved seeing more of the King and his Consort. The whole family and their dynamics are wonderfuland well drawn. I hope we learn more about Seb's father in a later book. It appears to be his husband and son that are the problem. The book is rich in detail even the horses have personalities. You never forget it is a Regency society even if it is on another planet. The IN mystery had little to do with this story until the end, but it did progress. Sebastian and Colton were touching as they dealt with their previous roles and grew into their new ones with each other. Their honesty with each other even when slow in coming was refreshing. It's a beautiful story first. There is sex and it is hot, but it is a bonus not the purpose. This is a novel not just easy fluff. There is obvious effort in the writing, and the editing. It was meant to be done well not fast, though the fans of this series are always clamoring for more.(less)

It took me a bit to get into it, but it was sweet. The author did very well keeping it in the feel of a true fairy tell. This includes making the enchanted cottage a great minor character. If you enjoy Amy Lane, this should be no different. If you enjoy fantasy and/or fairy tales, this should also be a good read. And most definitely, it is something you should read if you are looking for something different!(less)

I think another reviewer was right on the $ in saying it was a twist on the damsel passing as a boy on a ship. I wasn't bothered, but there is credence in those that complained about the # of sex scenes. I'm not sure that was the problem, as much as at times they did feel repetitive; nor did some of them move the story along. On the other hand, who reads a pirate romance without expecting a lot of sex. The "chaperone" was a great character fierce, accepting, and smart in equal measure. There was some "chick with dick" feel to it at times. Not as badly as one might even expect, and a lot of it can be explained away with the fact he was young and sheltered. Thus not necessarily "girly", but not the masculine butch ideal either. I've seen real men cry over much less than everything this kid went through. One's emotions would most definitely be at the forefront with that much change and stress. I did have a few nitpicking things. I kind of wondered what happened to the pirate ship and his men at the end, but maybe that will be answered in a later book. I also kind of wondered about the pirate Anderson, whose mouth incited a mutiny. He was never confronted, and I thought it strange that none of the pirates defended their captain. Though the author did make it clear no one was actually trying to hurt him. I'm not a historical piracy genre reader as a whole. This book was able to hold my attention and keep me interested despite that, which to me says something in itself.(less)
