May contain some spoilers I smack into him as if shoved from behind. He doesn't budge, not an inch. Just holds my shoulders and waits. Maybe he's waiting for me to find my balance. Maybe he's waiting for me to gather my pride. I hope he's got all day.
I hear people passing on the boardwalk and imagine them staring. Best-case scenario, they think I know this guy, that we're hugging. Worst-case scenario, they saw me totter like an intoxicated walrus into this complete stranger because I was looking down for a place to park our beach stuff.
Either way, he knows what happened. He knows my cheek is plastered to his bare chest. And there is definite humiliation waiting when I get around to looking up at him.
Sounds like a great start, right? It took me a while to form a picture of this scene in my head, but after I managed to do that, I had to laugh out a little. And seriously, it doesn't get easier for Emma! Especially when the guy in the scene no. 1 moves to same place with her and for some weird reason starts in her school, too! Galen's convinced Emma has "the gift", that she can communicate with the fish. They become quite close, but there's just one problem.. If Emma really has the gift, she's suppose to marry Galen's brother.
After the funny start, things get quite gruesome, when shark attacks Emma's best friend. And the best friend dies. Galen's convinced Emma's a mermaid - sorry, syrena - but when she doesn't change during the shark attack, he's baffled. So he follows her to her hometown. Which is quite creepy and stalker-like. If you want to think things realistically. But since this is a book, you don't have to! And don't, 'cause otherwise you'll start feeling like Galen's a chauvinistic stalker.
Galen's pretty annoying sometimes, if you don't like that "I'm-man-and-tell-what-you-can-do"- stuff. IRL, I don't, and have had quite a few battles with hubby about that subject (yeah, he's wise enough and doesn't tell me what to do..), since I'm maybe even overly sensitive about it. But I'm an escapist and everything's possible in books. I just get some guilty pleasure about that kind of male characters. Maybe he did went little overboard in occasions, like attacking other guys when you're jealouse, but I still didn't hate him ;)
Emma's a quite odd character, maybe? I don't really know how to describe her! She's suppose to be this sweet and cute and shy little girl, but it's pretty hard to picture her that way! Because she does act sometimes quite.. umh.. b*tchy. And she attacked Galen's sister! That was the WTH- moment of the book. But I do like when she's teasing Galen!
Then there's the whole "I-like-you-but-you-have-to-marry-my-brother-for-the-greater-good"- thing.. I do like how it was an obstacle on Emma's and Galens' way, but.. it was pretty extreme! I would've been okay with some smaller obstacle, like a lovetriangle. It sort of was, yes, but I can't really appreciate it, when there's no feelings involved.
It may sound like I hated this book, but I actually enjoyed it a lot, believe it or not! Because somehow the things I just complained about are also the things I enjoyed. Not the beatings, but the whole idea behind it. The jealousy, deception, heartache.. You know, my usual guilty pleasures ;)
If there hadn't been violence, this probably would have received at least four and a half cupcakes! But it was pretty great as it was, and definitely a mermaid story worth reading!

May contain some spoilers I know, it took me ages to write this review. But you know what? I've noticed that if the book is really good, it's hard to write a review. Because I can't just make a list about the good things. Or I don't want to. But I'll try to write something that makes sense.
I think my first thought might have been "vampire and werewolf fighting over a girl, where I've heard that before?". If you thought of that, don't let that stop you from reading this book!
Seriously, you have to read this.
Especially if you love love triangles, steamy moments and heartache, this is the book for you!
Before this I read a book where was this whole "in-love-with-my-best-friend"- situation, and I just loved it! So I was glad when the book started with the same situation. But, then enters the mysteryman! And we'll get some huge twists and turns and you just want more! You just can't get enough. I'm always happy when you don't know what's going to happen next, and that's the main reasons why I fell in love with this book. Book starts with some what common settings, but prepare yourself for some surprises!
Also, prepare yourself for the sobbing. It was quite embarrassing, since I was visiting my father-in-law, and I tried to hide behind laptop and sob there in silence, otherwise it could've been quite awkward.. Especially since towards the end the sobbing just increased.
I also appreciated fluent writing and functional dialogues. Author also managed to describe characters' life outside dialogues, which was refreshing. For example, I think I've never met a character who lives in a trailer. Ander's life was also quite exceptional, and I was happy to see this part of him, even though this part especially will break your heart in the end. Anyway, this brought certain depth to the characters, and was a big part of character development. Again, job well done!
I was really surprised when I finished the book. I didn't expect that kind of outcome, especially since I didn't realize this was just the first book in the series! So after I was finished, I googled like crazy. And was so happy when I found out there will be another book! Seriously, nearly had heartattack. And why is there half of cupcake missing? Guess I feel little confused about the ending. Otherwise the writing felt really personal and intimate, but not so much in the ending. Luckily, it was only prief moment, but then the book was over and I still felt confused and nearly cried again. But now I'm just excited, I can't wait for the second book!
Now, get yourself a copy and prepare yourself for some heavy crying! And after finishing the book, cry some more, because this book leaves you craving for more! But the second book hasn't been published yet, so you'll just have to wait :)

May contain some spoilers No surprise, I loved this book as well! There's two main characters, Tessa and Hayden, a good girl and a bad boy. It's a very common setup, but this book definitely stands out. It turns out that Tessa has some magical power. This she learns one day, when she's asked to principal's office. Hayden is asked to be her bodyguard. After that everything speeds up, and there's no dull moment!
I'm not sure who I liked more, Tessa or Hayden. Tessa was a strong female lead, who is sometimes quite whiny, but not too much, even though she prefers celibacy and remembers to tell you that. Hayden, on the other hand, doesn't whine, even if he has a good reason. He's quite over-the-top macho at the times. I was surprised that it didn't annoy Tessa. She could have at least pretend to be annoyed, just for the sake of feminism. But nobody's perfect, and woman sometimes wants some macho around, so I really liked him. Okay, I loved him.
There's also a hint of a love triangle, when a mysterious guy, Chait, enters the scene. I was just disappointed when nothing actually happened between Tessa and him. I know, it's wrong for me to wish that kind of things, but I just can't help myself. They would've had a perfect opportunity when Hayden decides to be a bigger man and steps aside, but they just wouldn't take the hint. Damn. But I'm still happy there was even some amount of love triangle.
It was definitely positive that both Tessa and Hayden were narrators. You knew what both were thinking throughout the whole book. That's especially the reason why it was so fun to follow how their romance progressed.
Plot contains many twists and no one's what they seem. We find out secrets from both Hayden's and Tessa's families, unfortunately they're not all that nice ones. But that doesn't matter, because they just make this book even more intriguing! This is fast-paced book full of action and romance and I don't hesitate to recommend it to anyone, who's after good read! :)

May contain some spoilers Fairy tale brought to modern world, how much do I love that! (In case you wonder, very much! I just watched A Cinderella story, Another Cinderella story and A Cinderella Story: Once upon a song)
This really isn't an ordinary Cinderella story. Cinderella is a werewolf. After a little accident, Prince is a vampire. Cinderella's cousins are the "two evil stepsisters", but it's a refreshing change to see that they're not that evil (though kind of mean and inconsiderate in occasions). And the "evil stepmother" isn't evil, either.
The story begins with Cinderella and Prince just hanging out. They don't use their real names, but that doesn't stop them from liking each other. Then Cinderella turns into werewolf for the first time, and that's when their paths separate.
Until years later, when it's time for the ball.
I just loved this story! There's romance, humor and happily ever afters, which I can't resist. I just have to quote few LOL- moments!
Well, I could put her in a container -- parts of her anyway.
But that would be gross.
I scrunched up my face. "Let's just say I hope you like guys who howl at the moon." "No, I don't", she hissed.
"Oh, c'mon. Could you really date a guy who gets that hairy? I bet they shed too, which means I could never wear black. Either that or I'd go broke buying lint removers."
Everything was fluent, and even though you expect to know how the story goes, there's few surprises. This reminded me of my favorites, Hex Hall and Paranormalcy. Just like them, I couldn't stop reading until I was finished. Which was too soon, since this was a novella. I just wanted to keep on reading, so another 155 pages would've been nice! So that's a small minus. There's no more down sides, though Cinderella might have been a little too whiny occasionally. But maybe it's understandable, since she attacked a boy she loves and doesn't trust herself.
As said, I could have read another 155 pages, and would love to see more of Cinderella and Prince.

May contain some spoilers Okay. I have to say that I'm probably not the right person to read short stories. There's usually not enough time for the character development or to concentrate on the plot. And that's pretty much why I didn't like so much about this book. I just wish there had been more to the plot, so I really wasn't left satisfied. No matter how much "action" in the book. That's why I'm having trouble with writing a review, because these stories left me kind of empty. So I will be writing only about the first story.
Enchanted by Blood by Laurie London (SweetBlood #2.5)
There's basically two main characters, Trace and Charlotte. They were involved, but Trace wiped Charlotte's memory, because he's about to start his job in a vampire council. And because his dad told him not to do people. Then they meet again, and they get involved, again.
That's about everything there happened. I actually did like the beginning, when Trace saved Charlotte from the trouble, but after that it was just.. white noise. Nothing really happened. As I said, this whole book left me kind of empty, so.. there's nothing really to say. Which is sad, 'cause I really liked the idea of vampires mixing with Christmas, but it didn't work out so well.

May contain some spoilers I don't know what it is with me and the cheerleaders! In general, I can't stand them, but they usually do bring some (quality) action to books, so I find them irresistable. And when cheerleader dies and becomes a ghost, well, that's just the book I have to read!
As mentioned, Alona dies, becomes a ghost and since Will is some sort of "ghost whisperer", for the first time ever they have to actually talk to each other.
Will thinks Alona is the typical cheerleader; perfect on the outside, b*tch in the inside. And Alona thinks just as nice things about Will; some freakish goth lurking in the corners.
But after getting to know each other, they are both proven wrong. I think this was the best part of the book, when they actually get to know each other and learn their deepest and darkest secrets. I'm in love with their relationship, since it progress so naturally. Well, if you can call a relationship between a living boy and a dead girl natural, of course.
We also have some "bad guys" hanging around, good stories usually have! Just so our main characters can join together in united front and eventually have some makeout sessions.. Me, a fan of makeout sessions, no way! ;)
Overall, if you want some good entertainment, this is right book for you! It's exciting with some humorous moments and romantic scenes between living boy and dead girl (may sound disgusting, but it's quite sweet, actually), and leaves you craving for more :)
