I kind of equate this book to the song, "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me. This is one person's perspective on how it might or should be. I enjoyed this creative perspective, because it helped me to try to capture the essence of the Trinity.
I've heard/read some controversy over some of the theology in The Shack, and although I am no theologian, but I would certainly alert the believer who reads to do it with discernment, because it could throw you off. I think we should always turn to the true source straight from God (the Bible) if we are searching for answers. I still think The Shack was worth the read because there is no doubt about it's message of God's love, redemption, grace, sovereignty, and our essential need for Him.(less)

The concept is interesting...but obviously there are other forces at play that make us who we are. The initial chapters captivated me, and then I got bored and put the book down.(less)

It was helpful to read along after seeing the video each week, but a bit boring to read since he even uses the same jokes in the book that he does in the video. Sometimes humor delivered live doesn't come across the same way on paper, you know?(less)

DH and I listened to this in its entirety (27 hours?) on a two week road trip of the Grand Canyon and surrounding national parks...a great way to bide the time. Through letters between Adams, Abigail, and other contemporaries, McCullough reveals a John Adams we rarely learned about in history, overshadowed by other founding fathers. Particularly interesting to me was Adams' relationship with Jefferson and Franklin, and Abigail's intelligence, strength and unfailing love as wife and first lady. I am definitely an Adam's fan.(less)

I guess I would rather remain in denial...but I know I needed to read about those issues! The book definitely made me think about how I will raise my son, and that I definitely need to first rely on God to guide us as parents. I thought the comments on schooling were interesting. They challenged my thoughts about what path we would take for our son, and I look forward to doing more research. In terms of writing...I felt Dobson went on unnecessary tangents throughout several chapters...as if he rushed through writing this book. Even so, I am still a James Dobson fan, mainly for the work he has done to help families.(less)

I am looking forward to trying recipes from this book because of the known quality and taste of any recipes that come from America's Test Kitchen. But I personally like quick recipes. That, I have not found here. Hence, making ahead. I just have to make the time to make something delicious ahead of time! This would have done me a world of good when I was pregnant and freezing meals. If I could only get my butt in gear and do that now that I have a toddler running around!(less)
