I couldn't put this book down. So much so, that when I took it out to write my review, I found myself reading it again from THE kiss. I have had to pull myself away to from it now to write this.
This book starts about six weeks after My Soul to Steal left off. Kaylee and Nash are together again and Kaylee is working hard on her trust issues. Sabine still wants him back though, but they are all trying to get along.
But then, they get some bad news that rocks them all. Tod has seen the reaper list and Kaylee's on it.
The school has a gorgeous new math teacher, Mr. Beck. Who it turns out, is an incubus trying to procreate. To distract from her own impending death, Kaylee wants to get rid of him and ensure her best friend Emma is safe when she's gone. And make it so he can never prey on the female population again.
If I Die brought out a mixed bag of emotions in me. I couldn't believe that Kaylee would really die, there is another book in the series after all. I had kinda guessed what would happen there but that didn't take from the story at all.
The dynamics of the series changes in this book, and while I was always a big fan of Nash, and didn't give much thought to Tod either way, I found myself falling for him along with Kaylee. Nash seemed different here, I felt he was kind of weak. I didn't like how he kept pushing for the sex thing after the failed attempt. I thought he should still have been waiting for Kaylee to take the lead on this and that kind of annoyed me. I did feel really really sorry for him by the end though. As much as I wanted Kaylee to end up with Tod, I didn't want Nash to get hurt. And things just went from bad to worse for him. I hope things get better for him in Before I Wake.
I really like Alec and hope we might get to see a bit more of him in upcoming books. He is the voice of reason a lot.
This book was my favourite in the series. If we go by the premise that the books get better as the series continues, I REALLY can't wait for Before I Wake.
"I'm dead, not impotent. Nasty rumors like that must be squashed before they gain momentum. Feel free to emphasize how very functional I am."
"I could have kissed you months ago, but it wouldn't have meant anything. I wished for you to see me. And want me. So...did you mean it?" Fragile hope peeked out at me from behind the smug self-assurance I now recognized as his mask. As armor, against a world that no longer claimed or understood him, and suddenly I realised he wasn't breathing. He was just waiting. For me. "Yes," I said, and some unnamed tension inside me eased. "I see you, Tod."...more
My Soul to Steal is the fourth book in the Soul Screamers series. And just like the first 3, it didn't disappoint.
While Kaylee is still trying to learn to trust Nash again, after he let a hellion use her body and tried to Influence her to sleep with him all while addicted to demons breath, along comes his hot ex-girlfriend, Sabine. And she wants him back. There is a lot of jealously flying around between them and it attracts a hellion of envy - who wants Sabine. And Avari still hasn't given up on having Kaylee's soul to torture for eternity.
This is an incredible series. Its been a while since I read the first 3 books in the series and I've been dying to read this but just couldn't find the time. I was easily able to pick up where I left off as these books are written in such a way that you were subtly reminded of what came previously without being repetitive.
We are introduced to a new character Sabine. She is a mara, she causes and feed from nightmares. She will not go down in my list of favourite characters but I couldn't help but like her. She has a great snarky attitude which makes her enjoyable to read. I feel she underestimates Kaylee when she first arrives but by the end of the book, though she may not like her too much, I feel she has to admire Kaylee. And she has made an enemy of Emma, which is interesting.
After more trouble from the Netherworld, they realise that they all need to stick together to protect each other, as the are all now open to possession from the Netherworld. This can't be easy for Sabine and Kaylee and I am intrigued to see how this will play out in Die for Me.
I liked the idea of the bracelets and 'puppies' that would protect them from demons of the Netherworld.
I would definitely recommend this book to paranormal romance lovers. This whole series will be going on my "to read again" list and I can't wait to read Die for Me.
"I've had it with both of you." He pulled his own bag higher on one shoulder and turned to me. "You let me know when you decide what the hell you want from me. I love you, and I miss you, and I'll be waiting, whenever you're ready. But don't spy on me again. Ever." I nodded miserably as he twisted to face Sabine.
"And you! You come find me when you're ready to be my friend, because that's all I have to offer right now. But as badly as I need someone to talk to, I don't need another complication in my life. And as for the two of you!" He stepped away from us, already walking backward toward the school entrance. "Work it out. Or don't work it out. But leave me the hell out of it." ...more

My name is Meghan Chase. I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.
This time, there will be no turning back.
Unbelievably, this was even better than the first two. The action just didn't stop and it had its fair share of romantic encounters too. Ash had me swooning, who knew he would turn out to be so soft and mushy. We see a completely different side to him as he drops his ice cold façade and opens up with Meghan.
Pucks emotions get the better of him and he goes from being a light hearted prankster to being bitter and mean. But who can blame him. His feelings have been hurt and it eventually all comes out against Meghan.
Grimalkin, what can I say. I love him. I don't think the books would be the same without him. "I am a cat". Those simple words have taken on new meaning for me lol.
A lot rests on Meghan's shoulders in this book but, she stands up to the task of her biggest challenge yet. She must save the Nevernever from the false Iron King and his iron army or all of faery world will die. But again, she is brave and determined and does what she has to do. Her character has developed so much from the first book, The Iron King, and she is amazing.
This book is imaginative, gripping and funny while being an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed, I swooned, I cried. Fantastic read. Would definitely recommend it. I can't wait to read The Iron King. One of the advantages of reading a series when all the books have been released, I can just read straight through :)
Off to read Summer Crossing now, before starting The Iron King. ...more

The book starts off with Meghan being held at the Winter Court by Queen Mab, having been brought there by Ash as part of their contract. After the scepter is stolen, Meghan and Ash escape. Puck comes back to bring Meghan home and Ash heads off on his own. The winter queen declares war on the summer fey believing them to have stolen the scepter. Meghan doesn't make it home just yet and sets off with Puck, Ironhorse and Grimalkin, to once again battle against the iron fey to save Nevernever.
This was just as good, if not better, than The Iron King. I could not put it down. It was even more action packed, fast paced and emotional than the first book. And the ending was fantastic, made me so happy.
We see a lot more of Puck in this book. I really like him but I'm still loving, loving, loving Ash. He is amazing. He stands up for love and doesn't care what happens.
We see a different side to Ironhorse, seeing him as brave and sensitive rather than just the enemy.
I was glad to see the return of Grimalkin, he had me laughing out loud at times with his sarcasm. I love the way he says "I am a cat" when asked how he does something.
And of course, Meghan. She is a great protagonist. Her character has grown in leaps and bounds since the beginning of the series and I don't think she's done yet. I can't wait to see how much stronger she is going to become as she really gets a hold on her magic. She is definitely one of my favourite female characters.
Julie's descriptions in this book were just as good as in The Iron King and even though there are a lot of characters, they are all so well written that there is no confusion.
This book is very hard to review without spoilers so I will leave it there.
Again, I would have no hesitation in recommending this book and will be putting it back on my shelf as a reread.
Now, onwards and upwards to The Iron Queen!...more

The house belongs to a group of supernaturals who broke away from the Edison group. There's a meeting held with the supernaturals and Chloe and the others try to convince them to go back to the Edison group headquarters to rescue Rae and Lauren and then to help them find Derek and Simons dad. The group seem unsure of the young supernaturals and think maybe the experimentation has made their powers too strong and they are a danger. With the many things that are going against them throughout, Chloe, Tori, Derek and Simon, begin to feel that they cannot trust the adults and come up with a plan to escape again.
This book was completely action packed and fast moving with the romance finally taking off in this one. Chloe and Tori are becoming more familiar with their powers and Derek makes the full change to werewolf. I read this in one sitting and was totally captivated by this book. I was very sorry to be saying goodbye to Chloe and Derek who I had really gotten to like. They were both great characters and I loved the way there relationship blossomed.
This is the last in the series but I didn't really feel like the story was finished.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes YA paranormal romance/science fiction.
