I received this for review and feel bad that I have to write this review, but I have to give my honest opinion. I read book one not to long ago and I thought it was okay. I was hoping that Relinquish would be better than the first and in the beginning it seemed like it would be. As I continued reading, things just started to go downhill. I tried so hard to push through this book because the plot is actually pretty interesting and I like finding out more about the things that go on in the story. I feel like this series had good potential to be a good one, but my dislike for the main character completely turned me off from the series. The plot of the story is pretty good and all the characters are enjoyable except the main character Regan. She literally made me want to scream. The main character wasn't my favorite in book one and in book two she was absolutely the worst. I made it to 54% and that's when I had to call it quits and stop forcing myself.
Now, the four guys are not bad characters. I actually really enjoy finding out about them. Even the bad guys aren't annoying. But then there's REGAN. Regan, the character that I could not connect with and the character that frustrated me to the point of giving up on this book. I was really disappointed with that because I was enjoying the book. Of course, her character was going through some things but then she completely switched. Her actions completely turned me off. The first thing that turned me off was her kissing other guys when she had a boyfriend. She kissed not one, but two other guys while still in a relationship with Colter. I don't know about you but I consider kissing other men cheating when you're in a relationship. And then once again she's flirting with Colter's brother. Strike two! I mean, she did that in book one and it annoyed. WTF? Strike three and four is up next. All of a sudden she 'finds herself' and now it's 'fuck Colter' and the rest of the collectors when they've been protecting her and saving her life since day one. And not only that you leave them for a stranger? The enemy? I don't get it. So insert new guy and she flips sides at the snap of a finger.
Regan was an unstable character and very all over the place. I didn't see her change a good one. I see her as weak character because she is extremely gullible. This was all disappointing because I was loving the book in the beginning and then she went through some sort of character transformation and I started disliking it. I became extremely frustrated and finally decided to just put the book down. One character blew it for me.(less)

The story line is what made me want to pick up the book and had me intrigued because I love a good mystery, but I just couldn't get into this one. The beginning was okay, but as the book continued I felt as if the story was all over the place and becoming repetitive. I was also confused at times which made things worse for me because I felt that some things were moving too quickly and not being explained good enough and the characters just fell flat for me and I was not able to connect. I wanted to like this book and push through it, but once I sat it down I never found the interest to pick it back up. (less)

There was tons of action and things going on throughout the book. It definitely didn't slack in that department. I guess I'll start wit the pros and the cons.
In enjoyed that the book had tons of action and there was also a ton a drama between the characters. I will always have a love for Dante and he always finds a way to weasel himself into my heart. And the we have Kraven and Annabelle both of which I completely adored in this book. I was all for those two, but it was not an easy for them. Kraven is just so dark and brooding. I guess that's why I like him so much :) Another thing I liked about this book is the friendships that were developed throughout the stories. We've come to meet a lot of new people. But let me be clear, this was not all rays of sunshine. There were betrayals and all sorts of things going on within the hive and outside of it.
One thing about this book that started to turn me off was Charlie. I did not connect with her like I did in all the other books. She became annoying as the book continue to progress. I understand the need for character development and all, but I felt as though Charlie wasn't the Charlie that we knew before. Her personality was not the same. I didn't like the changes that were made in her and I'm not talking about the end of the book. And the whole thing with the war started to become too much. I started to get confused with all the things that were happening. I think that maybe too much was going on at one time. And then we had all the secrets going on. I'd also already guess who the traitor was so I was not surprised when all that went down.
Overall, I'm at a standstill with this book. I didn't hate it and I enjoyed a lot of things that went on in the book, but there were also a lot of things that I didn't like. The ending was okay and was sort of happy with that (The very end). It was a pretty decent trilogy to say the least. I enjoyed books one and two, but I did feel as though book three could have been better. (less)

I struggled with rating this book, but I finally settle upon three stars because I do want to give the sequel a try. The main character Regan is a freshman in college and decided to go to a school across the country, from California to Georgia. She's barely gotten the chance to settle in before things start to go down south for her. When it comes to Retribution I thought the book did have some great action packed scenes, but I do feel as though some things in the story was not touched on enough. Retribution does switch povs, but the main pov is with Regan.
In this book, we meet four guys who are there to protect Regan from the Exiles that are trying to kill her for her soul. Colter, Kaiden, Finn, and Devon were some fun characters and each one of them brought a different personality to the book. Colter, of course, was my favorite of the four. He has that personality that I can't help but love. The other guys were great as well and I loved the friendship that was developed between them all.
I enjoyed the story and I flew through it. It was fast paced and simple to grasp, but my main issue and the reason I drop the rating was Regan. I could not connect with her. She annoyed me from the very beginning. She was whinny and her character was very hot and cold. I started getting really frustrated as I was reading the story. One minute she's fine and then the next she's all bitchy. Also, the romance of the book was not that great. Once the connection develop between the final guy it started to get good. But from the beginning of the book Regan was a flip flopper. One minute she likes Colter, but then the next she's flirting and hanging out with Kaiden. Insert Max, and she's dancing all up on him at parties and it was just so frustrating. By the end of the book she FINALLY settled for one guy and things were good, but before that it was a mess.
Overall, the story was okay. If my annoyance of Regan wasn't so strong I would have given the book a higher rating. I am very curious to see what happens in the sequel so I do want to check that out.(less)
