Alisha is the daughter of a preacher and Mitch is the half breed son of the town drunk who lives on the poor side of town. He often goes to school hungry, so Alisha takes extra food to share with him. He doesn't have any friends and often gets into fights and therefore gets punished by the principle in front of the class with a ruler. Most kids don't want anything to do with him because he is a half breed. Alisha is his only friend, they meet each other often and he teaches her many things like swimming and how to ride a horse. During this time is when they start to fall in love. As Mitch grows older his dad starts to beat him and he decides he needs to leave, he promises that once he is settled he will send for Alisha. 5 years pass with no word from Mitch so Alisha moves on with her life when one day Mitch comes back into town. Shortly after his return they both discover the deceptions that were told them to keep them apart. They fight to stay together and to give their love a chance but there are always obstacles that try to come between them. Once they come together for good they go on a quest to find someone that was lost to them only to discover that it was being kept a secret. Will they find true happiness or will people try to continue to come between them.
This story was such a tender sweet love story filled with adventures and surprises, seeing love bloom at such a young age and watching it grow into adulthood. My favorite Native American Romance author is Cassie Edwards, but I have to say this one was well written and right up there with Cassie. I may have to find more Madeline Baker books.
What I loved about this book was it was written in such a way that I felt like I was in the story watching it unfold in front of me. I was totally involved with the story and didn't want to put it down. What I didn't like about the story was it was to short. I didn't want it to end..... Well done, a great read!!!! ...more

BessThis story is about a young lady that is a photo journalist. She travels to foreign countries to do assignments, telling stories with her photos. Bess was given an assignment in Mexico and her sister is on vacation and decides to go along with her. When they get to Mexico they have to have a guide take them to the remote place where her assignment is. When they arrive they discover that all the people of this small village are dead, the only survivor is a small baby in a crib. Bess sees these soldiers coming and she tells her sister to take the baby and run.
Bess escapes with the help if one of her captors who she discovers is an undercover CIA agent.. She discovers that all the people died from anthrax poisoning, and she wonders why she didn't die because she was exposed to all those people. The CIA agent tells her that she must have built up a strong immunity from traveling in all those foreign places. She has blood work done and that confirms it. They go back to the surrounding area looking for her sister and the baby, they only find the baby and the agent tells Bess that in all likely hood her sister is probably dead.
The drug lord that ordered the village to be attacked with anthrax wants Bess found and killed because he discovers that she has a high immunity for the anthrax and the CDC is using her blood to come up with a antidote. He wants to be able to attack the states and not have an antidote. He sends his goons after her but she outsmarts them and he gets very angry..
At the end of the story there was an unexpected twist and all parties involved meet for a climatic ending.
This story was only ok for me, it was interesting enough to keep me reading it, but it wasn't a cant put it down page turning kind of mystery..I would rate it a 2 1/2 but since there are no halves I gave it a 3. ...more

I enjoyed most of the story andthe direction that the ending was going until the final chapter when it went off in a completely different direction that just didnt make any sense to me. it left you hanging with no explanation on how it could have happened this way. when finishing the book you are left unsatisfied with the death of the waitress and how it went down and why.

A young man and a young lady are thrust into an unknown world through a abyss. The young man fell into a hippos tank at the zoo where he was swallowed and came out a tree trunk in this new world, while the young lady was chasing butterflies at the Grand Canyon and walked under a rock formation and entered into this new world. They both are trying to find their way back home when they meet each other. Along the way they meet some strange and interesting people. They are told that they have to find 6 syllables of a word and each syllable is dangerous to get. Along the way to finding these syllables they run into strangers that are trying to stop them. There hope is that once they have all the syllables and they put the word together and speak this word to the ruler of this world that they will be shown the way home.
The adventures they went on to find these syllables kept the story interesting. Brandon Mulls imagination runs wild at times writing this story.. This story is a 3 book series. Looking forward to reading book 2. Over all a good fantasy story....more

He has to go back to this secret place and time but the only way back is to try and have the hippo swallow him when there is music playing. I know sounds bizarre, right? But it's a fantasy book. He has unfinished business back at this secret land so he wants to tie up loose ends then find a way to bring Rachel back with him. One if the loose ends is conquering the ruler of this land so all beings can live in peace. Along the way we run into displacers that can remove body parts with out bleeding. For example , if they want to spy they can take off a ear and attach it to someone without there knowledge, then he can hear everything said. You also meet giants that are only giant from sunrise to sunset, then they shrink back into normal humans over night. There are gypsies and seed people among other interesting people you meet along the way of thus adventure.
Rachel discovers she has some magic powers that she has to use from time to time to keep them all safe, but using these powers in extreme drains her energy. Will they all be able to stand together and conquer the ruler? Will they find a way back to our home and time period? All questions should be answered in the third and final book of this series, I hope.
I'm torn about what to rate this story as. It's better than a two but not that good for a three, so because there are no halves I will give it a three. The story has some adventure and intriguing parts that keep he interested, but it also drags at times, that's why it took me so long to read. Well now I have to read the third book to see if he gets back home. Beginning to not like series, they drag the story out to long....more

I enjoyed this part of the story up until the last couple of chapters. I certainly didn't see that coming and was a bit surprised.
I thought it was mean of Calla to lead both Shay and Ren on in the way that she did. I understand she had feelings for both, but she can't tell both of them that she is in love with them . Make up your mind, choose one and let the other one move on with his life. I just wanted to slap some sense into her at times.
I didn't think either one was mature enough for a committed relationship to begin with.... Ren was chasing around with other girls in school trying to make Calla jealous when he was suppose to be in love with Calla, and they were soul mates that were destined to be alpha pack leaders together as a married couple.... Shay was hot headed, jealous, controlling and possessive of Calla. Not good traits that I would want to fall in love with.
Readers that are team Ren will be upset with this story line and those that are team Shay will be happy. Myself, I wasn't on either team because they both needed to grow up...
I enjoyed the adventure they had getting the swords for the cross. That kept the story interesting for me. Overall it was a good series.....more

She is the Alpha of her pack who is destined to unite with the Alpha of another pack. The only problem is, she loves a human boy more.
In this book she is about to marry her destined partner but she comes across the human boy tied up in the woods, she unites him and runs off with him leaving her soon to be husband standing at the alter. She discovers that the human boy was tied up because he was meant to be their sacrifice after they said their vows. They run off together and are soon captured by a group of people that are trying to unite the keepers with the guardians and they need her help. At first Calla is skeptical about turning against everything she was taught to believe from her parents, but once she starts seeing things with her own eyes she is willing to help but it is going to be hard work getting the rest of her pack to change what they believe in. When she goes back to her home to try to talk to her pack she has a run in with her Ren, the alpha she left at the alter, and he is not to pleased that she ran off with a human boy and left him standing, nor is he pleased with her trying to change all of their way of thinking on what they believed in all their lives.
I didn't like this book as well as the first one. I'm a bit confused with the keepers, searchers and guardians talk. The whole story was a bit confusing at times, I felt like I was getting off track from book one, which I enjoyed a lot. There are some parts that are interesting and some surprises that I hope won't be disappointing in the third and final book....more

Shay wants to go to a forbidden cave to find an artifact that will help him put the pieces together but Calla doesnt want him to because it is forbidden. well they go anyways and Calla is bit by a spierd that was poisonous, and the only way to save her is if she drinks pack blood, she has no choice but to bite Shay and turn him into a wolf so he can save her. after this their feelings for each other grow even stronger while her wedding day is growing closer and closer.
will she marry Ren? will she choose Shay?
This story reminded me alot of Twilight, instead of vampires it is wolves. a girl is in love with a wolf and a human boy and has to make a choice instead of a girl being in love with a vampire and a wolf and having to make a choice. Shay and Ren argue and dislike each other just like Edward and Jake.
There are 3 books in this series, i am looking forward to the next book. A very good read if you like Twilight im sure you would like these as well. ...more

When I started reading the story I almost stopped because I didn't like the direction the story was going, I wanted a happily ever after. There is already to much sadness in this world and I wanted this story to leave me with a happy feeling, a feeling of hope and that through it all love can conquer all. I did read the whole thing because I wanted so desperately for Mia and Adam to have their happy ending.
This story is Adams story. He tells how he met his band mates and how he met and fell for Mia. He always wanted to be a famous rock star and when thT dream starts to become real for him he realizes that maybe that's not what he wants after all. He just wants a normal life playing his music but still being able to take a walk in the park or go bowling without people stopping him for pictures and autographs and without the paparazzi following him around. In the mean time Mia starts a music career of her own so sometimes they are touring on opposite sides of the world. They struggle with finding time for each other.
Adam also recounts his feelings and pain that he went through before, during and after the tragic accident that took Mia's family and the struggles he endured during Mias recovery. Even though Mia and him were only dating he felt the terrible loss just as much as if he were a family member. This story takes place three years after the accident but both Adam and Mia are still dealing with the loss.
I don't want to say any more to give anything away. It was very interesting to get Adams side of the story and I am so glad that I finished the story. You will have to read yourself to see if Adam and Mia get their " HAPPILY EVER AFTER "....more

She and her younger brother who is 9 are getting ready for school when it comes across the radio that there is a snow day. Mid morning the snow stops so the family decides they all want to go see a family friend who just had a baby, on their way there they get into a terrible car accident, both her parents are killed instantly. She is not sure what is happening to her at first because she is outside her body. She can see herself laying there but she doesn't feel anything. She is taken to the hospital and they operate on her to try to save her life and then she lays there in a coma. She can see and hear everyone but they can't see her walk around or talk back to them.
She wants to see Adam so badly but they won't let him into the ICU because he isn't immediate family. Adam gets frustrated and tries several times to sneak in but he gets caught, finally Mia's aunt comes and she is able to get him into see Mia. Mia is so sad and so torn about what she should do. She lost her whole family and wants to go be with them in heaven but yet she loves Adam so much she doesn't want to leave him either and she knows she can't stay in this limbo state forever that she has to choose.
Adam leaves to go get a classical music tape that Mia loves, he hopes if he plays it that Mia will come out of her coma. Just before he gets back Mia starts to see the light that everyone talks about before entering heaven, she knows she has to make a choice now. Adam is back playing the cd for her and pleading and begging for her not to go but to please stay.
It just broke my heart how Adam was pleading with Mia. This is a real tear jerker for sure. This story bounces back and forth from the present to Mia remembering her childhood and how her and Adam met leading up to the present. It was written in such a way that it wasn't confusing at all. I absolutely loved this story and the movie is just as good. I can't wait to read the conclusion in book 2. I hope that Mia chooses to stay and that her and Adam have their happily ever after....more
