There are so many things that I love about this series, and each time I start the next book, all of them come flooding back to satisfy my cravings for more. I especially enjoy when characters have unique voices or quirks that each time hearing them again brings back memories from all the previous stories. Such is the case here with Black and even more so with Calyx.
I absolutely adore Calyx. He has so many layers, has seen so many things and been forced or chosen to do those things that shaped who he is. He’s flawed and vulnerable at times, yet strong and forceful at others. Now, he’s dealing with all of the events that have led up to this point, and having his newfound father under their roof is just a small kink in chain. Even though he’s adamant about not caring about Kard, there is still an inkling of something drawing him to learn more. There is still such a strong feeling of distrust smoldering, but it seems they are running out of options but to put some measure of trust in him.
Then there is the issue of Black and his lack of psypathic powers. He is still intent on leading his men and getting to the bottom of things, all while hoping to stop the impending war. Unfortunately, he needs Captain Dickless to make his plans work. There is such an extreme amount of tension where Captain Dick is concerned. Aside from what Black is hoping to accomplish, there is still the mystery surrounding the experiments, the mysterious healer, the creepy backers and other players who may be involved. And, let’s not forget about the other Genesis who is still lurking somewhere. But, through it all, Calyx is by his side, as promised, and it is always clear how much these two need each other in just about every way possible.
So, yes, there is still a lot going on here and a lot at play. The chess pieces have continued to move forward, albeit with many twists and turns, but this game still seems far from over, and for that, I’m very excited. I can never get enough of this crazy story, these complicated characters and this extremely interesting world Ms. Owens has created. I cannot wait for the next installment. ...more

Ethan is a country boy from Indiana who has dreamed of and done everything possible to ensure his best chances at being accepted into the FBI. All he has to do at this point is graduate college. In the meantime, he works for a small private investigation company. Things take a turn after he takes a business trip to a security seminar weekend in Las Vegas.
Maxmillian (Max) is the owner of The Elite Poole, a high end security firm that provides skilled eye candy as bodyguards to the stars, etc. He is focused and driven on his work and company, enduring a self-imposed bout of celibacy after a previously failed relationship. That all takes a turn when he meets Ethan.
Ethan stirs something in Max he thought he’d never find. His submissiveness is perfect for Max and the two share an extreme amount of chemistry. He’s also skilled, capable and good looking. Everything Max looks for when hiring agents. Once he sets his mind on having Ethan, both in his bed and his company, he tries to convince Ethan to join him. But Ethan is set on the FBI. They reach an agreement that if Ethan is turned down by the FBI, he will join Max in Las Vegas.
This story pulled me in right away. I loved Ethan, and I loved Max. They are total opposites in so many ways and really are perfect for each other. I loved that Ethan stood his ground and didn’t give in to Max at every turn, even though his body wanted differently. This isn’t BDSM in the normal sense – there are no dungeons, set scenes, etc. But they do have distinct roles – Max wants to own Ethan body and soul, be his master in all things. Ethan has extreme submissive tendencies, yet is very inexperienced in that area. It was refreshing to read this type of dynamic, and the two really did complement each other.
It was a fast read that was never dull or boring, and it left me longing to jump right into the next one. I’m really looking forward to seeing where these guys go from here and how long it will take for Ethan to really crack Max’s shell.

One is about a young man who basically had everything taken away from him, is addicted to drugs and finds himself in a really bad place, turning to bad people to save him from the even badder people. It is harsh, but very well written and over way too quickly even though I wanted the bad stuff to end.
The second was about another man with not a whole lot going for him. In a dead-end job he hates but seems to everyone to be just a guy getting by. When he gets home, we learn the real truth, and it isn't pretty. What ensues is a delicious little horror story that ends with a what comes around, goes around.
Again, these were really short, but I really liked the style and will definitely be looking for more from this author in the future....more

James is a young rich kid who gets cut off by his mother after his father dies. He is working at a high-end suit shop (due to his knowledge of high-end suits) to make ends meet while he is still in college. It is here that he meets Charles, a well-to-do guy who immediately sees something in James.
Charles loves power exchange and looks for that in his "partners." Not wanting to be in a serious relationship after being hurt in one previously, he is merely looking for something to play with. However, he only seeks power exchange when it is freely given and the story goes on with that in mind.
It doesn't take long before these guys each wiggle under the other's skin and they become more to each other. It was a nice enjoyable read that I would have easily enjoyed more of. ...more

Short and sweet. Blake is dumped by his previous master who used to humiliate and not treat Blake very good. Regardless, Blake is left high and dry. After he is transferred to a different club so he isn't in proximity to said crappy master, he is taken under the wings of the club owner and introduced to Logan.
Logan is rather new at the dom thing, but he feels a connection to Blake, and the two make a go of it. They take things pretty slow as they get to know one another and smooth out a few bumps in the road mostly due to miscommunication and Blake falling back on what he learned from the previous master.

This is more a story about Truman's sister, Ally, who, after being dumped by her bf, joins the guys and their friends at a beach house.
It was great to see all of the characters again, Lucy, Eddie and Leo, Nick and Bernie, Adam and Becky, and of course, Molly. Unfortunately for Ally, she is not only sort of the odd man out, but she isn't totally clued in to the goings on with the rest of the players (with the exception of Ads and Becky). She picks up on little things here and there though and gets somewhat of an education.
The writing is just as spot on as the rest of the series, but I really longed for some closed door scenes with pretty much any of the players, but most especially the fabulous trio. ...more

Not just any guy though - Davey is rather special in that he identifies as genderqueer but is not wholly comfortable with all that entails at this point. Luckily, he meets a very accepting Will, who is always so open to learning about new things and easily adapts to Davey's needs.
A few things happen here though - one, he takes Davey home to the boyfriends who have a bit of a hard time with a new guy in the mix. Mostly Hugh has the issues with having to curtail his affections and touches, etc. where Will is concerned.
Also, Will is pretty sure he couldn't or wouldn't give up the boyfriends if that is what Davey needs, and he may be conforming just a little too much in Davey's direction.
Thankfully, the solid trio prevails and helps each other through. Absolutely love these guys and this series. As with the previous books, I can't get the next one opened quick enough....more

Well, Ms. Knight has done it once again. Another installment of this hot addicting series that delivers as big a punch as the previous 4 books. If you haven’t checked out this series yet, you are seriously missing out.
At this point, Scott and Tad are still seeing each other, but Tad’s reluctance to come out really puts a damper on things. Much of this is about Tad realizing Scott is the man for him, though it takes some major doing by Scott for that to happen. Completely understandable that Scott doesn’t want to hide at this point in his life, just as it is frustrating to watch Tad continue to struggle. Tad accepts and wants Scott in his life, but he is afraid of coming out to his friends and family, so he continues to put it off. That is, until Scott forces hand.
Scott, just as he has been in all the previous books, is such a strong character. He knows what he wants, does what he can to get it, and is willing to walk if it doesn’t look like that will happen. He remains true to himself in not letting himself go back on the things he wants. When he is with Tad, he is amazing as ever. Strong and dominant, yet caring and sexy. He pushes Tad but for mutual enjoyment. I completely love everything about him.
Tad is a bit more wishy washy, though understandably so. He’s a young guy, which you can tell from his inexperience and language, though Scott is trying to help with both of those.
I swear I could read about these two all day and not get tired. The sex scenes are smoking hot and never feel repetitive in any way. The stories are well written and easy to read. You will easily zoom through these and regret not taking more time when you find yourself at the end. We got to see a bit more into the backgrounds of Scott and Max which really helped to understand where they were coming from and the dynamics of their relationship/friendship. I’m excited there will be another installment of Scott and Tad, though I am really looking to dive into Max’s story....more

The story picks up right where Kick left off. Fiona is still trying to figure things out. Her family is involved, which is good and bad. They want her out, but whose interests do they have at heart? Is it so she takes the press’ focus away from other family matters? Or is it to help her? There is a lot at play in this regard.
Then there is Elliot, her psychiatrist. He wants to do what’s best for her and goes against her family’s wishes by keeping her in. However, he is having some issues of his own regarding feelings towards Fiona forcing his departure. This sends Fiona in a bit of a tailspin.
Then, the mysterious Deacon is back. He has healed and is asking to see Fiona. We learn a bit more about their relationship which is quite interesting. Fiona starts remembering some things, but are they what really happened or is she still making it up as she goes? Only Deacon knows what really happened, and when we find out, it puts quite a spin on things.
This fast-moving story has a lot going on but it is all very interesting and kept me engaged. Of course, this one ends with things hanging a bit, and I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next installment. ...more

Well, Mr. Deckard has managed to do it again with this third installment of the Baal’s Heart adventure. This was every bit as good, if not better in some ways, than the first two. The writing is unbelievably smooth, and the scenes just flow almost seamlessly from one to the next. It actually feels as though you are along for the ride with these guys, and what a ride it is.
This picks up where the previous one left off with the men heading back to Madierus for help in curing the Captain. Jon is the captain now, and it’s taking some adjustments on everyone’s part, including him, though I say he’s stepping up to the plate quite nicely. Of course, he has the every fabulous Tom by his side to help him along. Tom, what a breath of fresh air it is to hear him again. I actually like that they are still kind of struggling with their threesome given the circumstances they’ve encountered. Yet, they are all still on the same page of wanting to make it work. They face many obstacles, question things and each other, but still their desire and love for each other shines through. Even Captain B shows us some of his more emotional caring side every now and then.
One of the things I don’t generally enjoy are flashbacks…unless they are done right, as they most definitely are here. Through them, we gain insight on how things came to pass, learn more intimate details about the characters and how events unfolded, and they all just added a lot of color to this already colorful story. Again, everything flowed very smoothly. It was like doing a dance, taking a few steps forward, then one step back to fill in some details, then a few more steps forward. Very well done.
Another thing I absolutely loved were the chapter titles and chosen quotes at the beginning of the various chapters. Honestly, I often don’t read these, but I looked forward to and loved every one, finding they each fit perfectly with the corresponding chapter.
This story is truly an adventure through an amazing world created with the help of tantalizing words, beautiful imagery, and is just one heck of a good story. I happily savored every word and was not ready for their story to end. Thankfully, it seems Mr. Deckard isn’t quite ready either and has given us a nice teaser at the end of more to come in this fabulous world. This was a perfect end to one of my all-time favorite fantasy series....more
I wasn’t too sure about this at first, but it quickly grabbed my attention.
Fiona is a celebutante, not wanting for anything, fame and fortune and all that goes with it. But she has some major issues. For starters, she’s a sex addict. She is in a relationship with Deacon that seems to work well for both of them, until it doesn’t. Unfortunately, she can’t quite remember the events that led to where we are in this story – her being in an institution after having stabbed Deacon with a hoof knife.
Fiona pushes all kinds of boundaries, is in denial and need of help. She finds that with Dr. Elliot Chapman who ends up earning a tiny bit of her trust. He helps her come to grips with things and uses hypnosis to get to the root of her problems and memories.
This is a really fast read that had me on the edge of my seat. Fiona is rude and crude and doesn’t care one iota who bears the brunt of it. We get bits and pieces, just as Fiona does, but don’t get very far into her recovery or learn very many of the details of what took place, but the breadcrumbs left me wanting to jump right into book 2 to get more of this story. ...more

This story pulled me in immediately, so that I felt as though I was in the trenches right there with Sarge and Murph. I’m not usually a fan of sci-fi stories, but here, I was gobbling up every detail. I found the technical details to be extremely vivid and believable and one of the things I really enjoyed about this story.
These guys are fighting in a war on another planet. They’ve been fighting so long, it almost seems as though they’ve been forgotten about. They get very few supplies, vague orders and limited support. But they keep on doing what they signed up to do – fight the enemy.
Murph is kind of a special guy, and I fell in love with him very quickly. He has a special ability where he can see emotions and feelings in color. He’s loyal and caring, yet not so much for himself. He doesn’t care what others think of him. He’s big and strong and much smarter than everyone believes him to be. He’s poetry in motion as soldiers go, and Sarge is the one to see and take advantage of that. They are a bit gruff and men of few words, yet I had no trouble seeing and feeling what these guys saw in each other.
I would have liked to have seen more about how they went from that day on the battlefield to the D/S relationship they are now in. Murph is beautiful in his submission to Sarge and the scenes are extremely hot and emotional. Sarge tries to play off his feelings as insignificant, at least until they’re tested and put into perspective when Murphy goes dark on a mission, leading Sarge to believe Murph had died.
This is a short story, and it goes by very quickly. Mr. Deckard has done it again writing characters with depth and layers and just plain likable qualities. This story is titled Sarge, but Murphy is the one who steals the show. As is becoming a habit with his books, I’m already longing for more before I’ve even hit the halfway mark. I sincerely hope this isn’t the last we see of these characters. Even though this ends with the promise of an HFN, I’d really like to see where these guys go from here and how they get past the new obstacles they’ll now face upon their return home. ...more

Wow, I cannot believe I got on this crazy train for a second ride. But I did it. Like a train wreck, I simply could not look away. After the cliffhanger ending from Season One, I just had to know how things were going to play out.
This installment reads very much like the first in that soap opera sort of way. It took a little getting used to again, but, as with the first, once you get going, it is pretty easy to follow. There are a ton of characters to keep track of, and they are all intertwined in some way, shape or form. There is enough drama to sink a ship, so much so, that it gets a little tiring at times. And, there is a boatload of sex. Feelings I had about certain couples from Season One are totally changed this time around. No one is safe really.
So, I mentioned this reading like a soap opera, a highly charged, sex-filled soap opera. There is mystery, deception, anger, lies, drama and sex galore, not to mention revenge and cheating. Some new characters are added, but I was still left not really having any I cared to root for.
As with the first installment, this story reads very fast and had me turning pages just to see if, hopefully, there was some light at the end of the tunnel for just one of these couples. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced the gamut of emotions quite the way this story has made me feel. Jake definitely has a way of twisting a tale, as this one will definitely put you through the wringer.
If you’re looking for a high drama, fast paced, exciting read, be sure to give Boystown another look. This segment ends in another WTF cliffy, which, of course, left me wanting to jump right into Season Three. ...more
