We first met the lovely Renee and her husband, Robert, in Guarded. This also tells the story of Jase, who is one the MCs in Guarded. Here, we learn the details of Jase’s relationship with Eric. While they play a big part of this story, the focus is really on Renee and Robert.
This is the first time I’ve really read a story that took me through the changes, adjustments and struggles of someone transitioning, as well as their loved ones and/or partners. Renee has struggled for so long living two lives and has finally decided to move forward with her transitioning.
Robert now struggles to adjust to the idea that the man he married is changing in front of his eyes. While he has been supportive of Renee pre-transition, with the changes occurring at a much faster pace, he is thrown for a bit of a loop.
In the middle of Renee and Robert’s troubles, is Jase, a young man who has played with both of them as their sub. Jase is also in somewhat of a transition himself, moving from sub to dom, and they are all having to deal with the feelings involved.
Poor Jase is also dealing with his addict boyfriend who ends up in rehab time after time. Needless to say, that doesn’t end well, and there is a lot of suffering and guilt involved.
It seems as though there are a lot of sad and depressing aspects to this story, and there are, but there are also sweet and wonderful ones as well. It takes them a while, and it isn’t easy, but Robert and Renee realize what’s most important and how much their love means to each other.
I honestly don’t normally read these types of stories, mostly because I have a difficult time relating to the issues involved. However, I fell in love and was extremely intrigued with this couple when I met them previously, and was quickly pulled into their story here. It was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but it was easy to see how real that could be, and I’m glad I joined these guys on their journey. I’m a big fan of Ms. Grant’s writing, and this is another fine example of her work. (less)
I could not wait to get my hands on this one. Right off the bat, I knew it was going to be a good ride.
Zak is awesome. Tatted all over, pierced and sexy as sin. I loved his confidence and comfortableness with himself and how he made no excuses for any of it. He falls for Stitch, a bad ass biker, who is deeply closeted (mainly due to the MC) and recently divorced. He knows he is gay but is in such a situation there isn’t anything he can really do about it. He thinks he has the perfect solution in Zak, so long as he can convince him their mutual gratification is worth continuing in secret.
Zak is drawn to Stitch, even though Stitch is quite the bastard at times. At others, he is beyond sexy and hot as hell. When Stitch gets out of hand with Zak, Zak makes it clear he won’t stand for it. He doesn’t let Stitch run over him…too much. Unfortunately, he can’t seem to stay away from Stitch, no matter what he does.
Stitch’s main issue is the MC, who are homophobes to the extreme. He has aspirations of removing himself from the Club, but that isn’t as easy as it sounds. He gets drawn in deeper the more he tries to get out. Stitch is also dealing with his ex-wife who has custody of their daughter. She’s pretty unhappy with him most of the time, and even more so when she finds out the reason why their relationship didn’t work.
Things get out of hand as Club activities increase and the guys are found out. Violence heats up both in regards to the Club, as well as towards Zak. Over time though, Stitch has realized that Zak is way more important to him than he ever thought possible. They go over a few really big bumps before they are able to finally be together.
This was gritty and violent at times, but also sexy and heartwarming at others. There is a lot of dirty talking and almost no fluff. I found this completely refreshing for a change, and it had me turning pages very quickly. This definitely won’t be for everyone, but if you like things darker and a bit edgier, you’ll be adding this series to your list as quickly as I did. I know I’m more than ready and looking forward to the next one(less)

Yes, it is disturbing, yes, it is mostly awful. But seriously, I could not read it fast enough. This is sex trafficking at its most sickening worst. I can't even remember how many WTF moments I had, but there were an awful lot in this very short span of a story.
It is mainly about one boy (or he is a boy when he is taken) who basically goes from bad to worse, and that is before he serves his initial purpose and is "retired." The master he ends up with is one twisted sadistic f**k. From the horrible treatment and abuse, to the body mods. Even after he is rescued, it is easy to see he will never really be whole or ok again.
Now, the ending. Holy one giant WTF kind of ending is that? I felt like I was totally edged and then forced into denial mode. There has got to be more to this story, and I want it. Please, Ms. Waites, give us a little bit more.(less)
