Like every good anthology should, it reminded me of and awakened me to the joy of authors I need to read more of in the future.
This book came out when I was a senior in high school, so at the time I would have been too cool to read anything I read as a CHILD. I'm happy to say I am no longer that lame!
Read it! If it's your thing, you will love it....more

It's a very Lord of the Flies type read, and I must say I highly prefered when the story focused on the kids. It seemed like there was too much switching back and forth. I would have liked to see less of what the parents had going on, as the suspense would have been hightened. I love very nearly everything Peretti has written, and this book is no exception!
Overall, it really does force you to take a close look at right and wrong, good and evil, and how if your convictions aren't rock solid then you will be easily swayed in what you do and believe. You have to stand firm and stand for the things you believe in, and ultimately think for yourself. People like to assume that 'right and wrong' is a box that traps you into living a certain way. But ultimately you are the one that has to decide for yourself, and if you aren't positive about what you believe then it becomes easy for you to just fall in line with everyone else.
Don't be afraid to go against the tide, don't be afraid to be a leader even if you are the minority....more

I forgot what it is like to read a Dekker novel, and I was even wondering before picking up this book why it had been so long since I had read any of his work. Now I remember. My poor abused mental health and psychy can only take so much trauma! His novels truly do get under your skin. The flirt with the edges of insanity and then slap insanity in it's ugly and demented face. They taunt and haunt your very soul until you come back for more. And that, my friends, is the sick and twisted genious that is TED DEKkER!
This novel is more cut and dry than any novel I've seen him write. No sugar coating, no sunshine and rainbows to be found here, and you are so tormented with finding the truth that you are blindsided by so many shocking events. "Wait, did that actually happen? Because things weren't already horrific enough?? Good God!"
This is an astounding and mind spinning tale from a master. He weaves these stories in very much his own way. If you haven't read anything by this author, you are missing out on one of the best storytellers of our generation.
Oh, and while some may say that the ending was abrupt, I would agree; I was also shocked to turn the page and find that it was really over. And yet I'm glad, if only for the fact that nothing else bad or unexpected could happen!...more
