I enjoyed his conversational style as he compared life in Africa to his first experiences in the US. Being the son of missionaries, he recounted the details of remote village life, how the community operated and what "doing church" looked like. The middle of the book was a page turner focusing on his years in a mission school and the terrible abuses inflicted at the hands of "missionaries." My heart broke for him as a young boy and how God used the terrible pain in his life to bring such amazing glory! The last 3rd or so is a challenge to every believer to recognize the great opportunity and need faced by children around the world. It is full of examples of how we can impact children in small and large ways. Highly recommend this book for anyone struggling with the call of God on their life or for anyone trying to understand the impact of abuse. Great book!(less)

Often our organized church puts comfort before the call and this book shared the way one body of believers was making a serious attempt to obey Christ's commands.
I'll be rereading this one again and asking my husband to read it too. (less)
