Hmmm... while I was reading this story, I was willing to suspend my disbelief and go with it. But even I was snapped out of that willing disbelief in the ending of this book... so much promise, and yet.
This is Callie's story - the bratty sub that Thorpe's got it bad for, except he's too dark, too Dom, and too "something" to allow himself to show his feelings. Callie's always had it bad for him; so much so, that she allowed a Dom to collar her - Sean Kirkpatric. Sean's younger than Thorpe and a very sexy Scot. Or is he?
As the book opens, we discover quickly that Sean isn't who he seems to be. But who is he after and why? It's not until we find out that Callie isn't who she seems to be at all - in fact, she's an heiress wanted for the murders of her father and sister. Huh?
Of course, Thorpe and Sean hate one another, because each wants Callie all to himself. So when they have to team up to find Callie and protect her from some mysterious, secret military branch, suddenly these 2 guys discover they have a lot more in common than just Callie. And somehow, they figure out a way to share her. Huh?
The sex scenes are steamy hot, no doubt. But all the mystery involving a Faberge egg, incomprehensible genetic research, and bad guys who might or might not be U.S. or some other government... THEN the way that Callie, Sean, and Thorpe find safety and their HEA... Um, yeah, I kinda lost it.
Lots of good characters and situations with potential. Just too over-the-top for me.
There has to be something to a series that has me still reading it and buying its books, though. Just wish I could tell you what it is.(less)

And there is appeal and a certain charm and whimsy to this story of Dallas billionaire Jason Denning and the girl from the other side of town, Gia Angelotti. Gia's got a big Italian family and upbringing who only seem to let Italians AND Catholics join the family.
But Jason met Gia at the club, when she was going by "Greta". And Dom Jason fell for Greta... so much so, that he swept her away to Vegas for the kind of impromptu, expensive wedding that only a billionaire could pull off. But that very night, Gia received the worst call of her life - her only brother, also a cop, was shot and killed in the line of duty by a very bad guy. The kind of guy that buys policemen, including her brother's partner. Gia does what she thinks is best: she doesn't tell her family about Jason, and she leaves Jason to care for her sister-in-law and her young niece and nephew.
Jason can't get Gia off his mind. He's dying, because he doesn't understand why she's shut him out. So he finds a way to contact her and makes her a deal: stay with him 24/7 for the next 3 weeks leading up to their 1st wedding anniversary. If she does, she can walk and he'll give her $250K. Bail now and get a divorce, and Jason gives her $0.
What interested me about this book was Gia's reasoning... and how it was a reversal. We think we know this big bad Dom and what he's going to do. And we think he's the one who needs to learn to bend. But in reality, it's Gia.

This book contains 2 stories: 1 from Shayla Black, "Wicked All Night", that's part of her Wicked Lovers series, and 1 from Rhyannon Byrd, "Make Me Yours", that's part of her Dangerous Tides series. I bought the book for the Wicked Lovers series story, 'cuz I'm a fan... sort of. But I found myself enjoying Ms. Byrd's story as much or more than the one I bought the book for!
In "Wicked All Night", we have Decker McConnel, who's part of Xander's and Javier's Lafayette, Louisiana security company. While having a brew, Decker was mistaken for a hired hit man and propositioned to murder one Rachel Linden, an elementary English teacher. Decker "takes" the job, deciding to protect Ms. Linden from whoever wants her dead, while desperately trying to figure out WHY. She seems to be a beautiful, shy, divorced 29 year old with nothing to hide.
It's a case of love-at-first site for him... which, yeah, is irksome. For her, it's lust-at-first site, which is kinda fun in the switcheroo. He's the one trying to have a relationship, while hiding the fact that he's been hired to kill her at the same time that he's trying to catch her killer... but keeping it all hidden from her. Confused? It's definitely a weird scenario, especially when we meet her ex, and Decker gives him not only the once-over, but the what-for.
But it's kinda cute, very steamy & sexy, and all's well that ends well.
In "Make Me Yours", Scott Ryder is ex-military who still hasn't gotten over the one girl he could never have: Lily Heller, his ex-commnander's daughter. Lily is 10+ years younger than Scott, and while he desperately lusts after her, he can't seem to allow himself to date her. Except he fantasizes about her all the time - enough so, that the opening scene is a doozy! Scott bumps into a strange woman hiding out near his front door; without so much as looking at her face, the guy is suddenly pawing at her clothes and touching and licking her all over. Really?
But it's an interesting mystery... and there's enough steam and angst between Lily and Scott to make you want to turn the page to see what will happen between them next. Yeah, we know how it'll end; no surprises even in what kind of situations and endings are going to happen. But I enjoyed the ride.(less)

I was given an ARC by Anita Clenney, one of my favorite authors - she's got the Connor Clan Highland Warrior series. And my very favorite story in this short story collection! It's called "Shadow of a Highland Warrior", and it's all about Jamie, the warrior who was engaged to Shay Logan from for a short time in Clenney's 2nd book in the Connor Clan series, . But Shay and Cody MacBain were destined to be together; Cody even has the mate mark to prove it. Jamie grudgingly gave in, because he really does care for Shay and wants her to be happy. So I was thrilled that he got his own adventure and possibly a new lady love - Sam(antha), the hot FBI agent who's been helping the Connor Clan. Throw in the two "old" ladies, wild Matilda and gentle Nina, plus the mysterious white cat and a romp thru Washington D.C. trying to catch a demon who might be trying assassinate the President of the United States... and WOW!
My 2nd favorite is probably the 1st story by Leigh Michaels, "Shadow of Love", a Regency romance featuring "Poor Lamb" Lady Audra Lambton, whose 3 fiancees have had the misfortune of either dying or becoming deathly ill after becoming engaged to her. Lady Audra has decided love & marriage aren't in the cards for her, so she makes a deal with her titled brother to chaperone his ward through her first Season. In the process, Lady Audra bumps into the only fiancee who didn't actually die, Lord Lucas Kinley. What does Lord Kinley want - a chance to marry the girl she's chaperoning? And why is that so distasteful to Lady Audra, she shouldn't care, right?
I truly enjoyed all the stories in this collection. They run the gambit between contemporary, paranormal, tales of pets, mysteries... but each is chock full of fun and just enough romance to make it interesting.
Well done, ladies! If you're looking for some fun, romance, and variety, you can't go wrong with this collection.(less)

The continuing story of Kate, the publicist, Mac, the married editor, and Nick, the golden boy who's probably perfect for Kate. Except that Kate and Mac can't seem to get enough of one another.
In this book, Kate literally leaves Mac behind, to deal with his broken life, career, and marriage. Kate tries to start over again after a devastating career disaster - not one of her own making, either. Her only salvation is in the book that her good friend and one-hit-wonder best selling author, Alan Lavigne, left her in his will: the follow-up book to his smashing first book - and it's all hers.
But can Kate be satisfied with Nick's love - easy, gentle, undemanding - after her tempestuous affair with Mac? ============ I'm still on the fence about the whole Kate and Mac thing. And while I appreciate what the author did in this story, I still can't quite root for them. Not at Nick's expense. And yet...
Sassy, sexy, and a great insider view into the world of publishing. Even the inside joke about all publishers want to publish now is the next big erotica! Ha! (less)

As much as I enjoy Emma Holly, her paranormal "Hidden" series hasn't always been among my favorites of her books. But this book was really enjoyable. It surprised me a time or two, which isn't easy to do. Sure, there's plenty of predictability, but the WAY in which the story unfolds is surprising. And fun. And sexy.
Fairies, elves, and werewolves - oh my! Add in dragons and a mysterious cat... well, it's just plain chaos. But cute, vulnerable at times, and a steamy romance. Hard to go wrong with a paranormal romance that has a bit of everything, including Alpha-male cops and dazzling fairies!(less)
