He makes it seem like all the world's problems would be solved if only we could run out of oil sooner.
While some of the problems he suggests are correct, and it is obvious that as oil gets more expensive things will have to change, I just can't see the $20 per gallon future that he is describing. At some point long before $20 a lot of the people will be forced to give up on oil as a source of energy.
Steiner does have a interesting way of tying in a lot of things to the price of oil that I would never have thought about. Everything from B-52s to school buses and high school sports gets a mention in his look at our future of higher oil prices.(less)

The history of how this mess began and the financial foolishness that made it worse is all covered, as well as some reasonable ideas for how the financial system should have been reformed. (less)

I liked the first two in the series, and the third book was ok, but this one just seemed kinda sad in comparison. On the good side, it wasn't awful and it was a quick read, but it seemed like anything that might have been interesting about the year 3001 was vaguely described at best.
Of the things that were of the most interest, such as the reason for the Monolith's and the fate of Dave and Hal, it seemed like most of what was said was restated from the other books. The book might have been OK, but then the ending was also not so great and actually made me regret having read the book. (less)

The later chapters were not as helpful for me since I needed to use a later version of ESX and was not going to use GSX or Virtual Server at all.(less)

While I didn't think this was as good as his Thrawn series, I liked it a lot.
The main characters in this story are not Luke, Han and Leia. The Star Wars universe is more interesting with more and different people in it.(less)

The chapters gave you and idea of what went on during the war without going into to much detail, which was just fine at the age I read it at. (less)

There were some interesting parts to it that dealt with how the fishing was done, who did the fishing, how demand for tuna was drummed up in a country where no one ate it to begin with and such.
But the book sometimes got bogged down in details that just were not interesting, like detailing lists of restaurants that sold sushi back when it was getting popular or by going back and forth in the timeline over and over again.
Basically some parts are better than others in this book, but there are interesting things to be learned here for those that take the time to read the book.(less)

I was hoping it would be as good as Arrowsmith and Elmer Gantry had been.
Have had the book for almost 2 months now and I don't think it will be finished when it gets back to the library. I am having trouble getting into it. The main characters don't seem to be as interesting as in his other books, so it is harder to be interested in what is going to happen next.
I don't dislike the book, but would say that there are more interesting books by Sinclair Lewis to read if one wanted to read one.(less)

Seems his only real advantage was that he was smart. In every other way; parents, where he lived, friends, and schooling, he got a raw deal.
After growing up as nothing more than a petty criminal he learns the basics about counterfeiting from his mother's boyfriend and learns just enough to get him hooked.
The book details some of the techniques and processes he used in order to become so good at making money and how he was able to not get caught for so long. It was also interesting to read about the kinds of people that buy counterfeit money and what they use it for.
While the whole book was pretty interesting I must say the end was a real page turner. I could see where it was going to end up but I just couldn't wait to get there. If you like great books about bad people then this is the book for you...(less)
