It was still a decent read, and I love the way she mixes multiple fairy tales into one story told in modern day Florida, but I never really connected with any of the characters. ...more

I've been being told for months to read her books because they are such sweet little stories. Well, everyone who recommended her was correct. I'm channeling Josey from this particular book when I say this story was like that that little burst of sweet and creamy caramel you find wrapped inside your chocolate. (pretty good huh?)
You can't help but fall in love with sweet innocent Josey, who has spent her entire life in servitude to her mother, trying to make up for the way she cruelly treated her as a child. Then you get Della Lee the free-spirited 'screwup' in town. Who takes refuge in Josey's closet after running away from her boyfriend. Finally you get my personal favorite character Chloe who is trying to find herself after discovering the love of her life cheated on her three months ago. All three women are different, but they are all dealing with similar problems.
On top of the lovable characters, Allen writes in a bit of magic in their world, not so much that you don't feel like these are real girls, but enough to know that they're special. Chloe's books following her around was adorable. Honestly I wish I had that happen to me, then I wouldn't have to make a weekly stop at the bookstore to buy books in bulk.
The plot itself, left a little to be desired, it's you standard plot, hence the one star down. However, the small gems written throughout the story really made the book. Josey and Adam's midnight snowman, Della Lee's strange attire, and of course Chloe's books seeking to help her. It all makes this story worth the read...more

The Divine family kind of drove me nuts, I just hate people who try to act perfect all the time. However, Daniel is a great character. He's the boy who had no chance, but still is trying to make things okay. The side characters though, were sub par. Grace's best friend sounds annoying and I honestly don't even understand why Despain wrote in the whole Pete thing or the mean girl that spreads rumors about Grace. Honestly you don't need a love triangle to write a decent book. Overall I'd say it's worth the read. I'm writing all my complaints here, but in all honesty I accidentally stayed up till five in the morning reading it, so I obviously didn't hate it by any means. Give it a chance it's a quick and enjoyable read, but don't be looking for anything deep....more
