Joannah Miley takes us on an adventure with Ruby, an independent and lonely girl who seeks to make her father—although deceased—proud. When Ruby walks into a coffeehouse, to forget the war that's raging around her and to study, she's asked to play a game of chess by the mysterious Ash; she declines. But Ash is so adamant (and let's not leave out gorgeous) that she takes him up on the challenge. After a tactical game, Ruby wins and leaves Ash awestruck. Ash becomes obsessed with Ruby's game and wants to understand how she could have possibly beat him in the area that his existence revolves around: No, not chess, but strategy and war. Oh yes, my friends, Ash is no ordinary human; he's Ares, the god of war.
Ruby soon discovers that Ash aka Ares is adventurous, a gentleman, and oh-so-swoon-wothy! It isn't long before the two realize that the electricity they've been feeling between them is sparking up a lot of romantic tension. For Ruby it's like a breath of fresh exhilarating air. Ash/Ares is just as lovestruck. But there's just one problem: Zeus, the god of gods, won't approve their relationship.
So what's a guy and girl to do when Zeus makes them a proposition? Easy. Embark on an adventure that'll secure their love.
If you're looking for a new kind of twist on Greek Mythology, you'll find it in Joannah Miley's book, The Immortal Game. (less)

This New Adult Contemporary Romance had me hooked at first glance with the main character's monologue in the opening scene. As a seasoned writer, Miller delivers a unique story with the right amount of steamy romance, incredible character development, and a third-degree burning anticipation for that first kiss.
Sam, the saucy main character, is in love with the one man that's off limits—her brother's best friend, Heath "Fang" Fangor. Heath is the sex icon rock star that every girl dreams of, but no girl's been able to claim. When Sam playfully pushes Heath's buttons, little does she know that he'll push hers right back and harder. Is he genuinely interested in her, or is he playing the rockstar game he plays with every girl? Filled with self-doubt and confused, Sam puts up a fight, but Heath won't back down. And as if Sam's life wasn't already complicated enough, she also has to deal with her brother, Jase, who happens the be the band's drummer and her only family. Looks like Sam might be the cause of Hot Wired's band breakup if she doesn't play the right notes. Readers, get ready to have your world rocked!(less)

Arlene Lagos has written a Sci-fi adventure that brings together forces of good and evil, battling to take over the worlds she has so vividly portrayed in this story. The scenes are well imagined and the characters keep true to their personalities. I can't wait to read book two and find out what happens next in Arlene Lagos's Beyond Earth Series. (less)

The story blends the lives of people that - either, by fate or by providence - come together to track a serial killer that has been at large for 33 years. Leading the case is FBI Agent Mas, who staggers along a blind trail, lacking of clues and with a butchery of victims that began in the city of New Orleans and ultimately transitions to the nation of Haiti.
Policard delivers a descriptive, well-weaved plot, with twists that will make any reader gasp. Knit tightly are historical accounts, legends and myths that ornately provide the platform for the ongoing storyline. The personages in this story are well developed, carrying their own voice and personality in tune and in accord to their roles throughout the novel.
Mystery, culture, religion and carnage are the elements that will strongly bind the reader to this story, leaving them agape in the thought that two of the book's primordial characters may well be walking among us. In the wake for the resolve, you may even find yourself asking, "Would Jesus do it again?"
Whether you are an enthusiast of thrills and mystery or simply a fan of great literature, you will be sure to find yourself listing "Hunting Christ" as a personal favorite and anxiously awaiting the debut of Policard's enthralling story on film. (less)
