The thing I most like about this book is not that any of the ideas are new, but they are creative and don't cost anything and are simple to do at home. Also has some fun DIY "art" things like paint, playdough, etc, recipes in the back. (less)

I found it helpful this time to review about the crying and eating schedules, and just how schedules need to be flexible. Some things I don't agree with the authors, but overall helpful book for getting your baby more in a schedule and predicable. (less)

A few favorites I will have to try in the future, but overall, good cookbook. I wish there were more pictures of the recipes, but presentation is lovely. I like how it is separated into categories. It did have some language, but otherwise, I found it intriguing. I really felt the whole time that you knew Kevin didn't kill his wife, but you really can't figure out what happened. The mother being the neighbor next door was a surprise, and this really kept me thinking what was going to happen. I also found the whole courtroom thing not too "above my head" as sometimes court scenes are. Good read overall. (less)

I mostly enjoyed how life on a farm is like and also the lifeline of the two sisters, Rue and Laura. I admit, you kind of start the book expecting that Rue will die from resurgence of cancer in the end, and that Laura and Webb will indeed get together, but the storyline and funny experiences, along with the old movies nights were the highlights for me. I haven't read too many books that have a format told in just letters and that I have identified with the characters. I loved how they developed the name of the society just be "happenstance" to avoid detection by German soldiers. I also really liked the character of Juliet, who randomly finds stories to write about through letters from people that lived on Guernsey, a British island occupied by Germany. The characters, especially Isola, she meets through letters and eventually in person, I really found to be friends. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, but had some sweet stories as well as poignance with survival stories. (less)

That being said, it was definitely on the young adult category, but the premise kept me reading in that what goes on behind stories when the pages are closed. This book has the characters have "their own lives" outside the storyline. Interesting... not sure I would ever reread it, but fun little fairy tale book.(less)

Has such a fun imagination this little Ryan as he goes on a quest throughout his house, and encounters the scary monsters (made out of normal things that look like monsters) in his house. Cute story. Tender story of a Jewish German man who only wants to be English. As a result, he and his wife move out to the country and build a golf course on "wild land" and a famous golfer comes to golf on it. The tender part is just how much he wants to be English and the effort he goes into building the golf course, despite all the setbacks. The story and memories of his wife Sadie are also endearing. I don't know anyone with Asperger's so that was interesting to read the challenges in facing that. I especially loved how the main character near the end realizes her dad had the same disease. Being able to cook handwritten recipes and have the person appear to them was an interesting touch. Overall this was a very enjoyable read, especially if you enjoy cooking. I loved the Normal Book. Many of the ideas I had heard before, but I liked her approach of that she used to be a two income household and what she did to move to a one income household. Most of it is how to save on making things from scratch (especially food dishes) an budgeting items. Overall, had some good ideas for homemade remedies and some fun recipes I want to try. (less)

I keep reading hoping to find a four or five star book, and just haven't yet. This is an interesting take on the "old romance" notion, of two strangers meeting, trying to make it work out, and the challenges they face being so different. Nothing really shouted out to me, but there were a few funny lines. (less)

Lots of the story takes place around New York, which was fun, and it definitely had some tender moments in her learning about friendships, choices, and the power of a good life. Had some language and innuendos, but overall, very moving story of two young men that come of age on their “trip” to get a dozen eggs for a German war leader. The book tracks their experiences and I especially liked how Lev in the end, won the chess game, but it was Kolya who died, even though he was the one that was the optimist and outlandish character. The ending with Kolya dying though it didn’t make me cry, was unexpected, and up to the very end, I honestly didn’t know if they were going to get the eggs and make it back. (less)

It reminded me a little bit of the movie National Treasure and a librarian.... but the story of how the Cold War had been a fraud passed down through the years and hidden by this foundation, I had a hard time following. It had some good suspense parts, just too many stories to follow for me. But, still enjoyable. (less)
