Each of the three stories surprised me in a different way. Big props especially go out to the first story, A Handful of Gold, for things I won't mention because they're spoilery, but I was seriously impressed.
Reading The Heart of Christmas reminded me of how much I love historical, even though it's a smaller section of my romance collection. I'll have to do something to remedy that soon. :)(less)

And that's a good thing. A very good thing, in fact, because it shows just how engaged I was with these characters. This is a quick read, but I was hooked from the moment I met Sabine. She's got so much ANGST (all caps serious, yo), and I love that. My heart broke when hers did, and I rarely feel that strongly about a story. That's one reason why this book gets 5 stars from me, because damn. Well played, Team Moira Rogers.
But wait, there's more. The setting's good, and I wanted to know more about the kingdom and the politics and the scheming nobility. It left me hungry, in a good way. It's a fantasy setting, and there were bits that reminded me of running through a role playing game, because I could see that there was more plot going on but dang it, nobody was offering a quest for it! Maybe in the expansion...
And the love scenes, oh my. :-o Is it warm in here? Yes, yes it is.
Oh, and I'll admit that at first glance, just from seeing the cover and title, I had doubts, because the Beauty and the Beast thing has been done to death, right? Wrong. This was different, some might even say fresh, and I was pleasantly surprised. So, in conclusion: excellent angst, hot love scenes, interesting politics, why are you still reading this and not buying it right now?(less)

He's really everything I could ask for in a vampire. So, so good.
I honestly had a hard time putting this book down once I started reading it. It was interfering with my daily life. I brought it with me when I took my husband to the doctor's office and I paid more attention to the story than I did to what the doctor had to say about the hippy's bronchitis. (Sorry, sweetie.) (Okay, I'm not really sorry, it was just so damn good.)
So yes, the build up between Jade and Dillon is addictive and hard to put down, at least in my humble opinion. There was a little bit of plot at the end that I was kind of like "what, what?" that kept this from being a 5 star review, but other than that I really enjoyed it.(less)

Thus I picked up Seven Years to Sin, and I'm very glad that I did. It's damn good. Really it's everything I want in a erotic historical romance: It's spicy and the love scenes are steamy. The historical details enhance the setting and don't distract from the action (seriously, some books I just want to yell "Get on with it!" when it turns into describing every last dress detail, but this author never did that to me and I am very grateful for that). And best of all, I loved the couple.
So far my favorite thing about this author is that she does damaged characters really well, and I'm always, "ooh, that's interesting, tell me more!" Both Alistair and Jess have angsty backstories that have left them broken in ways that can only be healed by each other. I love that. It's one of my favorite things about reading romance.
But what sold me on 5 stars for this book was actually the secondary storyline, because this: (view spoiler)[Jess's younger sister has an abusive jackass husband who I was hoping would die in a traumatic way, and he did. I would've cheered if it hadn't been 1 in the morning when I got to that part. (hide spoiler)]
Did I mention that this book kept me up reading well past midnight for two nights in a row because I couldn't put it down? It's that good.(less)

There are so many fabulous lines. The humor is fast and furious, and I'm completely envious. I laughed, I grinned, I harassed my husband by reading him lines I loved. The action is great. The heroine is amazing. Her team of paranormal mercs is amazing. It's like all of my urban fantasy favorites thrown in a blender and turned into an addictive alcoholic beverage.
It's fabulous. I loved it. You need to read it.(less)
