There's a little bit of everything in this book--sci-fi, paranormal, mystery--all leading up a a thrilling inter-dimensional war. The story is set in a world much like our own, but there are a few big differences. One is that they have creatures known as sirens who are capable of raising the dead. When one of the sirens is abducted on another planet, Aldon is sent on a rescue mission that leads to some shocking revelations that could put his entire planet in jeopardy.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was an entirely unique take on zombies, and also had an exciting sci-fi twist that totally blew my mind, but I won't give away any spoilers. If you're looking for a book that's really different, The Siren of the Dead is a great choice. I've never read anything quite like it, and I'm excited to read the next installment....more

Her dreams send her messages from the past, and she watches herself die violently again and again. Ted is Fiona's soul mate who has had to watch her die in every life since she was burned as a witch, and he worries he's going to lose her again. Can these star-crossed lovers finally find happiness, or will fate tear them apart again?
I really enjoyed this second book in the Stains series. Throughout the story, Fiona receives subtle threats that gradually get more intense, and they left me biting my nails every time. When the culprit was revealed, I was floored. The ending left us with a hint of more to come, so I can't wait to see what the third installment has in store for us. ...more

I love the original versions, but I also enjoy when an author retells a story in a completely different way. The Rape of Persephone does just that. It takes the story of Haides and Persephone, and gives it an original spin, right down to a new take on the spelling of the Lord of the Underworld's name!
The story is told from the perspective of Haides. While lying in a field and enjoying a spring day, Persephone approaches him, and let's just say, she's not as innocent as the original legends portray her. I enjoyed seeing a darker side to his normally light demi-goddess. Even more, I liked seeing Haides emerge the hero instead of the villain for once. This short story is a fun, quick read that will have your rethinking a legend you thought you knew....more

When its time for the mouse to leave, the dog realizes that he didn't have everything he needed after all. He needed a friend and now he had one.
My children just loved this story. The illustrations are beautiful and it was written in a way that was easy for children to relate to. I love the underlying message that people are always more important than material things. This is a great book for preschool kids....more

Each story is beautifully illustratRupert's Tales: A Book of Bedtime Stories, is a collection of adorable stories about a little rabbit named Rupert. Each story is beautifully illustrated with lifelike images of Rubert and his forest friends, and each short story teaches a valuable lesson.
One of the things the book teaches children is that it's important to get a good night's rest in order to make it through the day. He befriends a bat who crashes into a tree because he didn't sleep well the day before, and all the friends discuss how hard it can sometimes be to settle down and go to sleep. They give suggestions on how to make it a little easier. Other stories go on to explain the way that dreaming works, and how each person can control what happens in their dreams, even if it's subconsciously.
My children loved all the stories in Rupert's Tales. They are just the right length to hold their interest and they have grown very attached to the adorable characters. I also love how each story has hints of the pagan religion, such as creating sacred space or saying a blessing. These messages are subtle and someone who isn't familiar with the path would probably not even notice, but as a pagan mom, I am excited to finally have a children's book geared to my religion.

I enjoyed this book and found the mystery unique and chilling. I loved how the author blended forensics with the paranormal aspects. The thing that holds me back from giving this book five stars is that the climax came about 75% into the story. After that, it dragged a little, and I think it would have flowed better if the romantic angst had been blended in during the course of the action instead of lumped in at the end. But the exciting finale is a redeeming quality that will leave the reader anticipating the next installment and another ghostly encounter . ...more
