She has decided to road trip across country to California to spread her sister’s ashes in the Pacific Ocean with her best friend, Laney, and a secretive boy that her sister knew.
This book is about Harper coming to terms with her sister’s death and trying to figure out how to live her life. She experiences many new things on her road trip which help her come to the realization that life needs to be lived to its fullest. There is no reason to hold back when it is so short. I loved the friendships that Harper has and how she is a very real character. I could see this sixteen year old girl who was confused, mad and resentful of her family. It took me a little while to get into the book, but once I hit around page 100, I was hooked. Hannah Harrington has created a believable story of betrayal and loss that leaves you speechless....more

I was never really “pulled” into the story until the last 50 pages. I thought the story was interesting and the characters were believable but there was nothing that really caught my interest. I enjoyed being able to read the story from two different points of views told twenty years apart and was able to differentiate between the two most of the time. Each chapter is labeled with the narrator’s name to help clear up any confusion. I think Chelsea had to face some difficult information and she handled it well and was able to meet some new friends along the way. The ending was somewhat of a surprise and it left me reeling. I kept expecting for someone to jump out and yell “just kidding” and give me the ending I was hoping for. I enjoyed this modern day retelling of “Wuthering Heights” and I think that it was a good, interesting read. ...more

I really enjoyed this book because it was different and it held my interest. It follows a sixteen year old girl who is taken from her house to "fulfill her duty" to her society as a spinster. Her entire life is taken away and she feels powerless against the powerful politicians who can order her death in a split second. She begins to learn that she has something that they want and they are willing to do anything to get it. I felt like this book was extremely well written and engaging. There weren't really any huge fight scenes or standoffs but it was all of the small scenes that came together to weave a very interesting plot with believable and lovable characters. It was the first book that has caught and held my interest in a while. I loved seeing the dynamics of the different characters and seeing how everyone was used against each other. Small hints are given throughout the book that lead to a shocking ending. I was unable to put this book down and I cannot wait to read the next book and see how the ending plays out....more

Intangible follows twins, Luke and Sera, who have special powers: Luke is a seer and Sera is a healer. They are the twins who have been prophesied long ago and everyone is looking for them because they can either make or break their future. Throughout this book the twins are tested and pulled through the ringer. Luke sees something that he desperately wants to change and Sera finds herself in trouble after healing somebody that a lot of people didn't want healed. Will the twins survive? Or will one of the many forces hunting them down win? I could not put this book down. It was a quick read with a lot of action and excitement. I loved how tight knit the brother and sister pair were and that they would and will do anything for each other. I was able to relate to them because it reminded me of my sister and I. There are a lot of likable characters in this book, some you are drawn to quickly, and some take a while to warm up to. The book pulls you in from the very first page that leaves Luke fighting to save his sister's life. This book is full of deception, intrigue, and excitement. Give it a try, you will love it!...more

She is taken on as the princess' assistant and grows to understand the ways of life around her. She is struggling to find a place within the society and try to help the kingdom as they face the darkness. I really loved this story. It has everything: intrigue, mystery, romance, and two smoking hot guys! I loved how the author kept you on your toes the entire story; You were led to believe one thing and then all of a sudden, everything you know is ripped out from under you. I felt myself rooting for certain people in the story and feeling my heart rip for a few as well. The author did a great job with the dialogue. For example Florence Waverly is the main narrator but there are "interludes" where we were able to see into some other merpeople minds. This is how you were able to connect the dots with the hints that the author dropped throughout the book. I really loved how there was an ending of a sort but it still left you pining for the next installment! This is a must read for anyone! Especially those that love reading about mermaids and life under the sea!

I wasOkay, I usually try to stay far away from Nicholas Sparks' books, not because they are bad but because they are sure to make you cry every time! I was given this book by one of my students and I loved it! It is about a marine, Logan Thibault, who was stationed in Iraq who found a photo of a young woman one day. After he found the photo his luck seemed to turn around. He started winning poker games, and even seemed to be able to avoid bombs and mass shootings during the war. His friend, Victor, is convinced that the photo is Logan's lucky charm and with it he can't be touched. When Logan comes back to the states he sets off across the country in search of the woman in the photo. He can't believe his luck when he actually finds her, Elizabth, in Hampton, North Carolina. He starts to get to know Beth, her son and Nana. He slowly starts to fall in love with her, his only competition? Elizabeth's ex-husband the deputy sheriff. Not only does he not like Logan but he doesn't want anyone to have the woman that he can't have himself. I loved this book! Logan is the kind of guy that every girl wants for herself! He's good looking, charming, an amazing listener, and great with kids! Elizabeth is slow to warm up to Logan for reasons she reveals later in the book. As she seems him interact with her son and Nana, she starts to realize that he is a genuinely good person that she wants to get to know better. Logan is hiding some things from Beth and she is constantly trying to figure out what he is keeping from her. As the book moves from chapter to chapter, you see glimpses into Logan and Beth's pasts and are able to understand their motives for the things that they do. I loved the interactions between Ben, Beth's son, and Logan, especially after you realize how much Ben needed a mature, caring adult male in his life. I really enjoyed this book and I think it is a great read for anyone! Yes there are parts in it that were tearjerkers but I never did shed a tear when reading it, which made me love it even more! You fall in love with these characters and you sympathize with them when they are in trouble. Give this book a shot, you won't be let down!...more

Julia and Cayne have been taken to the "Chosen" compound where they are forced to separate. Julia is now living as a candidate in the compound while Cayne is a prisoner and hidden somewhere within the compound where Julia now resides . Julia learns the truth of Cayne's past and she has to decide whether their feelings were real or something a Nephilim used to trick her into following him. This sequel to "Stained" was awesome! I loved the battle sequences and the character development within the compound. The way that Ms. James came up with for them to get around the compound was awesome! Also, the dialogue was laugh out loud funny at times. I found the characters to be very likable even though there were a few people that I strongly disliked!! I like how Ms. James left clues throughout the entire book right down to the last twist that she threw in. The end of the book left me thinking, " wait, what?!" I cannot wait for the third book and I strongly encourage all young adult lovers to give this series a read! You won't regret it! ...more

As she tries to get to know this man, Cayne, she slowly begins to realize who she is and why her foster parents were killed. She and Cayne go across the country searching for the half demon upon whom they both want to exact their revenge. I really enjoyed this story and I can't wait to get started on the second book in the series. This book is a quick read in which you fall in love with the main characters and you feel their pain as different details of their lives are uncovered. I loved the action and suspense that was woven throughout the whole story as they stumbled upon crime scenes and ran into enemies that tried to kill them. I can't wait to see what happens and how the ending of this first book is played out in the second....more
The Torn Wing picks up where “The Fairy Ring” left off. Tiki and her family have moved in with Rieker, who goes missing for weeks at a time. One nightThe Torn Wing picks up where “The Fairy Ring” left off. Tiki and her family have moved in with Rieker, who goes missing for weeks at a time. One night, they are informed that the king of the Unseelie court, Donegal has hired an ancient creature to hunt down and kill Queen Victoria in his quest to conquer England. As the war escalates, Tiki is forced to learn more about her history and connection to the world of the Fey. The best thing about this book is that Kiki has given you just enough of a back story that you know what happened in the first book without it becoming boring and redundant. She gives you the quick rundown and then takes off with the storyline that allows us to learn more about Tiki and Rieker’s pasts. After the truce has been shaken in the first book, you see the Unseelie court becoming more powerful and begin to take over. They even attempt to take the throne of England. I loved all of the action present in this book. Page one starts with the murder of the Seelie King and the drama keeps coming. I loved how dedicated Tiki is to her family and we are able to see her nurturing side in addition to her no nonsense, take charge attitude from the first book. A lot of information is revealed in this book that leads to shocking revelations that leave you reeling. I didn’t want to finish the book because I knew it would be too long until I could find out the rest of the story! As far as historical fiction goes, this is at the top of my must read pile and is the first title that I recommend to my students when they ask for a new book. ...more

I am a math teacher and the title is so close to ‘addition and subtraction’ that I was immediately drawn to it! Then I found of it was written by Amy Fellner Dominy and I was sold! This story is about a 14 year old girl, Tatum, whose world is turned upside down when a new boy shows up at school and seems to take everything away from her. She had been planning on taking the third spot in the District Honor Band until he came along and tried to take it away from her. Not only is he ruining her band life, but he is trying to turn her best friend against her. What is a girl supposed to do when her best friend sides with her boyfriend instead of her? This book was a quick read and I loved it! Being an 8th grade teacher, I felt like I saw a lot of my students represented in this book. There is the girl who has been overweight her whole life and has recently been able to slim down, the guy who is in love with a friend who doesn’t have a clue, the boy who just can’t seem to do anything to get his dad’s attention, and the girl who wants to hide out in her best friend’s shadow. This book had some great moments where I was able to connect with the character because I had been in that situation before. This is a book that I will most certainly be putting in my classroom library and recommending to my students. Not only is it a cute story, but I think everyone can learn from the mistakes that are being made during the course of the book.
