The plot is strong and the characters are very beautifully build. Everything works except the sex scenes. I didn't hate them, but they were a bit dry which I wouldn't have minded if they didn't have that incredible build up. You cannot make them almost fuck in a carriage and then describe the act in three sentences. It's like putting you right on the edge and leaving you there tied up. Hell. Maybe I am a bad sub after all. ...more

I really liked the characterization and the very fine description of houses and surrounding that only a true Brit could do. How beautifully put inside the text! The dialogues are solid and ...what can I say. A good writer and a good editor. ...more

I haven't read the previous books and I found no problem whatsoever understanding the characters and situations. Something else that could have made it confusing was the whole Past/Present storytelling that shifted from chapter to chapter-but no, it was smooth and refreshing. So I'd say that literary wise, it was fucking amazing. Thanks for the vocabulary expansion mam!
What this book did to me is beyond my comprehension. ...more

Books like this one make me angry. They promise a lot and don't deliver. I devoured the first chapters in minutes, they were fast paced and full of action, highly detailed and never boring. I could SEE the scenes, smell them-such good writing! *__* Then Hagen got caught, things started to slow down which was nice for a bit and then it was all SEX-somestuffbeingsaid-SEX-morecrapwedontcareabout-SEXSEX-noplotsoletsdrivetothecamp and while we are there add in a a completely flat character named 'DRIVER' who reminded me of Stig of Top Gear. Everything he does and says serves the purpose of leaving the two love birds alone. The poor guy doesn't notice Captain's tender eyes on the Nazi and then dies because the story doesn't need him anymore. I'm almost sure that he was added just to make the driving of a prisoner to a camp believable. This is a typical crappy m/m formula. It was rather unexpected. The ending provided for some more action and I think some more sex happened-IDEK, by that time I didn't care anymore.
This book has two writers and thus two sides. I loved one of them and disliked the other. So the four stars are just for the part I actually enjoyed....more

Caught Running is a love story in which two guys fall in love madly and ... that's it. There is no such thing as conflict. No drama, just crazy amounts of sex scenes (which, I admit, were nicely written) and plastic dialogues that leave you wanting for more. Half though with it I was starting to get a little panicked, ok, where's the climax and then I realised, by the very end, there would be no such thing.
On the other hand, I can't say that I disliked it. The characters are somewhat likeable, the writing style is solid (POV is again a problem but I'm kinda immune to it by now) and I could somehow understand the point of it. It did manage to cheer me up and admittedly, I've seen romance m/f books sell this kind of dream love story into huge success.
3 stars and congrats to the ladies for going from this to Cut and Run....more

5 years is a long time. So many books have come and gone and when I came back to Te eAdministration it was like it was always there. Everything came back full force and then it hit me: this is a work of genius. Ok, one might find the story quite unbelievable. You might have not seen Equilibrium, a movie with Christian Bale which might be another source of inspiration for these series, apart from Blake 7 and others. Equilibrium has such a strong motif adn yet makes you angry for the sloppy writing and silly gun action. But that's just Hollywood for you. (Christian Bale in black I&I suit is still a valid reason to watch the movie).
What is amazing about these characters is how real they are and how consistent in all 15000 pages of pdf I have read. See, there is no need for pathos and making the reader tired with morality when the characters are so well defined, so deeply flawed and so driven to make their lives better. I've always liked to read what other readers feel about each character. There seems to be a very well defined group of people who adore Toreth and want to pet him like a child (he would probably apply some high level waiver on them) and the other group who are generally scared of him and think he is a psychopath. There are also mixed feeling about Warrick, about Sara, Dillian and maybe even about Bastard the TomCat.
My feelings are mixed. Toreth is a very scary man whose only limit is 'will I get caught?'. If yes, he doesn't do it. If not, maybe he will. Maybe he will spare you. It depends if he had a good fuck with Warrick last night. Which brings me to Warrick. Good old Warrick is truly a corporate like Toreth thinks of him. He likes to let things slip though and doesn't want to think about the bad things others are doing to make him sleep well at night. He makes me think of Hamlet sometimes, obsessed with the sim, with his father, with danger, but unable to do anything about it.
Are you with the resisters or with the Administration? In 2009 I was a big pro-Administration and pro-Toreth and now I can my opinions shifting. I almost like Carnac. I would be a Carnac in this universe. I would be an annoying prissy Socioanalyist trying to get My Keir back. It's almost scary of how much I used to loathe him in 2009. And now he only me feel really bad for him.
Can't wait for the last books. I really want a closure and a place to call the end....more
