I was excited as soon as I received this book as I have read all of Lisa Gardner’s books and have thoroughly enjoyed them all! Another fabulous novel in the DD Warren series that has you guessing until the very end. Meet Charlene, also known as Charlie, a 911 dispatcher who as a child was a victim of child abuse at the hands of a mother believed to have had Munchhausen by proxy.
Her adult life hasn’t been a whole lot better with two of her best friends murdered on the exact same day a year apart. It’s now a year later and that very same day is quickly approaching and Charlie believes her own murder is imminent. She has prepared. Physical training, shooting practice-she will not go down without a fight! She contacts Detective DD Warren and asks her to be the one to investigate her upcoming murder.
DD Warren has just come back from maternity leave and certainly has her hands full. She is also working on a case where pedophiles start to meet their demise. With nothing left to lose is Charlie cleaning up the city or is all not as it appears? This is a definite page turner that I could not put down and keeps the reader intrigued with all the plot twists and turns. It was great to revisit characters from the past as well as reading about the bonding DD Warren has experienced with her husband and baby. A highly recommended read!! ...more

At first I wasn’t sureA copy of Someone Else’s Life was generously provided by the publisher Doubleday Canada for the purposes of review. Thank you!!
At first I wasn’t sure with the British terminology used that I would enjoy this book but I was so very wrong!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book written by author Katie Dale, from beginning to end and couldn’t put it down! The story of Rosie, a teenager who has been the primary caregiver for her mother who has just passed away from Huntington’s disease. After witnessing the ravages of this disease she decides she needs to know if this gene has been passed down to her. Rosie knows that this is a genetic condition that she has a 50% chance of carrying. This in itself makes the reader ponder this issue and really put yourself in the shoes of Rosie.
Imagine finding out that your life is not what you have thought it to be. Rosie soon discovers she does not carry this gene as she was switched at birth which sets in motion a set of events that will change many lives forever. Seeking out her birth parents and the girl she was switched with, Rosie faces many tough decisions all of which have consequences. This story takes the reader on a ride where you are feeling for the characters involved and the many moral issues involved tug at your heart. I found myself getting frustrated with some of Rosie's decisions which negatively impacted others. I definitely recommend this book as it is a fantastic read and provides so much information on the Huntington's disease that I was not aware of. Bless those families who have to suffer through this horrible disease. Recommended for teens and adults!...more

I do enjoy a great dystopian read! This storyA copy of Partials by Dan West was generously provided by Harper Collins for review purposes. Thank you!!
I do enjoy a great dystopian read! This story was so vividly described I felt like I was there in this futuristic place. It’s 2076 and a virus known as RM has decimated most of the population and ending the ability of the remaining human population to reproduce. Some people have been found to be immune to RM but no baby survives passed the third day.
Before this virus was unleashed humans had engineered non human robots called Partials to assist in the winning of wars. Unfortunately Partials turned against their creators and unleashed the RM virus on mankind. As they look exactly like their human counterparts no one knows if the person next door is really human or a Partial.
The Senate is the body that controls everyone and everything. They have passed a law in which every girl over the age of 18 must become pregnant to increase the chance of finding a child that is born immune to RM. This law known as “The Hope Act” is about to be revised to drop the age of mandatory child bearing to 16 years old.
As if the Senate is not bad enough to deal with there is also a body of people known as “the Voice” who are a type of rebellious terrorist group fighting against the Hope Act and the Senate. The lead human in the story is Kira, a 16 year old that is working with a medical team trying to save the human population and find out why all the babies are dying shortly after birth.
Kira finally decides that she needs to do more to find out why the babies are dying so she enlists the help of her friends to find and take a Partial to study as they appear to be immune to RM and may be the cure for the end of the human race. The Partial they end up taking is named Samm who we later discover is also trying to save not only the human race but his own. Partials have an expiration date.
Working together Kira and Samm embark on a quest to meet both their agendas and the reader falls in love with Samm and you can see and cheer on the relationship that is developing between the two characters!I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for Partials #2!!!! Recommended to Young adults and adults alike!...more
