Overall II found this home repair is homicide mystery at my public library. This is the first book that I have read that was written by Sarah Graves. Overall I liked the book. The beginning was a bit slow for me to get into. The police chief seems like he doesn't care and not take Jake claims seriously.
Years ago Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree saw her mother murder. Jake recently wrote her victim impact statement as the killer was going to trial. Ozzie Campbell will do what he can to stay out of prison. He makes phone calls to Jake to spook her. In the meantime, Jake is watching Lee, her friends toddler why she goes on her first vacation since having her. Jake drops Lee off at Helen house for daycare. When she goes back to pick her up no one is there. Then she realizes that Halen and Lee have been kidnapped. Jake tells the police chief about how she thinks it is tied to her but, she kind of gets the brush off on her theory.
Soon, I found myself wrapped up in Helen and how she escaped and how she tries to survive so she can tell the police chief where to find Lee. In the meantime, more suspicion is thrown on Jake as she seems to be in the center of everything that is going on. The two kidnappers are portrayed as New Jersey thugs. I did not like Markey from the start but I think he was the perfect character. Anthony along the way was changed in how he was presented from being a bad guy to one that the author possibly wanted us to feel sympathy for.
I know I will go back and look for beginning books in this series. ...more

I have read most of JP books but none by the coauthor Ashwin Sanghi. I have read other reviews and most say they could not follow the story because of the names of the characters. Hello, this story takes place in India do you expect the characters to be name me Bob, Tom,Bill or Mary? No you should not. With that said, I admit I had a hard time at first keeping the characters straight so I did have a piece of paper next to me with their name and how they relate to the main character Santosh Wagh.
Jack Morgan started up a branch in India headed by Santosh. The story begins when they are called to investigate the murder of a Thai Doctor who was there visiting the city. For Santosh and his crew it was puzzling as the victim was found with several items tied or bound to her hands. Then another murder happened within a day and different items were also found ties to the victims hand. Quickly, they realize that someone is killing and sending them a message with the items and also in that each victim had a yellow scarf around their neck.
At times the story was hard for me to follow as it would jump around a lot and I had to stop and go back and reread parts to follow what exactly was going on--some of it may be to blame that I hard a hard time picturing the setting in my mind as I am not familiar with it. There were parts told that I didn't really understand why somethings like the whole background on how the Thugs came about and their history to India-so much was included and told in this story.
As the book went on, I really started to enjoy it and it covers a lot of different topics (or parts to the plot) like murder, of course, the mafia, corrupt politicians, terrorist and more. I feel that the book starts to pick up in the late back half which is too bad. A lot of attention to the history of India was written in this book which one can find interesting however, I was wanting a little less history and more suspense. The victims were just described how they were found and with what items and then kind of put aside--I would have liked more depth (not sure if that the word I want) for them instead of ok so and so was murdered with yellow scarf and these items and that's it. ...more

This is the second one she has co-written with Alafair Burke. Laurie Moran host a tv show called under suspicion. The same day she is to pitch which unsolved murdrr to her boss, in comes Sandra Pierce pleading that she showcase the disappeared of her daughter Amanda.
Amanda Pierce disappeared right before she was to be married five years ago. Her sister, Charlotte, still feels like she is her shadow as Amanda was to take over the family business that is worth millions and Charlotte was 'runner-up' for the job. Meghan, who was a bridesmaid keeps a secret to herself about her feelings for the groom. Jeff Hunter is the groom and everyone adores except Sandra as she is convinced he had to have done it as he does not come from a family with money. There are also two of Jeff friends as groomsmen and Kate who was Amanda best friend.
Laurie ends up being able to profile Amanda disappeared for the show. Usually there is a few months to prepare for it but, they had to rush everything and quickly go to Florida where it all took place. As usual Laurie has thoughts of Greg her deceased husband who was murdered as the hotel they are filming at is one she and Greg had gone to. Leo, Laurie dad and a retired NYPD, comes along with her son Timmy. I like the addition of Leo in the story even though he does not get a lot of focus. Alex, Laurie romantic interest, comes also to narrate the events of Amanda. I personally did not like how they handled the romance between the two of them, very disappointed in this.
Overall, it was a nice read. Not much of a suspense or thriller in my opinion and the ending was just kind of there, though it was not what I expected as to who did it and the reasoning behind it. The ending with Alex and Laurie also a let down for me. Hopefully, the next book co-authored by them will have a bit more suspense and umph to it as it just felt lacking in this book. ...more
A nice light read however, this is not your typical MHC book in that I feel it lacks the suspense that her other books have.
Betsy Grant is accused ofA nice light read however, this is not your typical MHC book in that I feel it lacks the suspense that her other books have.
Betsy Grant is accused of murdering her husband, Dr. Ted Grant who had been diagnosised with Alzheimer's years ago. His estate is worth around $15 million which was to be split between Betsy and Alan Grant, Ted son from his previous marriage. In the meantime Delaney Wright is a tv reporter who is following the trial. Delaney was adopted into a loving family at birth but, she feels the compelling need to find out who her birth mother really is. In comes Alvirah and Willey who are friends with Delaney and promise to help her find out who her real birth mother is.
In the meantime there are courple of other side stories also going on to maybe slightly point that someone else killed Ted. Was it the son who is having financial problems. What about Dr. Grant former partners that he was in practice with before being diagnosised. There is also a small part about a petty thief as well.
This story, I think does a good job of showing how Alzheimer patients can act at times. For me there really was no mystery or suspense as at the beginning it was obvious who Delaney birth mother was. The ending of the trial also was not a surprise for me either. Still I enjoyed the book and love that MHC is still writing and her books are still enjoyable to read. ...more

The book started off very very slow for me. I could not get into it and it seemed like it was just the same thing being said over and over. However, being the reader I am-I could not just leave it unfinished in case it did get better. Peter McDowell has it all and then loses everything including his family. He goes to stay in a lake home he inherited from his parents as he tries to find work after the loss of his job and his wife and kids move to the other side of the country and she ask for a divorce. Peter then has a reconciliation with his twin brother Michael who is the doctor in the small town where they grew up. Michael is a saint according to everyone as he tends to not only the sick but also to his invalid wife Maggie.
The book started to pick up around the time Maggie goes into the hospital. This is when it really started to grab my attention. Someone may possible be trying to poison and kill Maggie. The book was going good and then it just kind of died off for me with just having Michael no longer a character with anything to say - I would have liked to read something about his thinking. To how Perer is suppose to have lost money and all when the market crash and he lost his job yet he can fly to LA to see his kids ever month or 6 weeks at the most and off to international travel as well---this is just a bit to far fetched for me. The ending of the book was not exactly what I expected, yes I expect Peter and Maggie to walk off hand in hand and live happily ever after but, the not hearing from Michael for the later part and then suddenly he does an outburst in the court at Maggie and some of the questions and comments were not what I had expected.
Still, I am a loyal DS reader and I will find another one of her books that I have not yet read and borrow them from the library. ...more

I have mixed feelings over this book. So, here goes--my biggest thing is with Eve, Inknow that everyone loves her and willing to do what they can to find her but, how can one person in all the books written meet with so much trouble? Venable willing to trade her life in book two of this trilogy in order to get Doane. Just a bit hard fetch for me. And the killing/murder of Trevor. Though I know it solves the love triangle Indisnt see him being killed. This book seemed to have a lot of focus on Jane. Not sure why but, I just can. It connect with her. A lot of characters that seem to have more supernatural traits which is ok as I am open minded.
I did enjoy this book as it was action packed. The introduction of Kevin mom, Harriet--I liked as Indis wonder what ever happened to her. Seeing Zander at the end deal with feelings and have it so he can be in future books is wonderful. Catherine has always been a favorite character of mine, Indo hope that we read more about her and Gallo. Joe and his love for Eve and his determination to rescue her gets to me as I do believe in love and like knowing that there are people out there like that. ...more

Kate goes back and forth in regards to having a relationship with Dave--she is convinced he is all wrong for her as he doesn't have the qualities she is looking for but, then she also loves him and tells herself it does not matter they are different. In the meantime, Kate takes in a tenant-Elsie who reminds me of Grandma Mazur from the Stephanie Plum series.
Overall a cute book. A short read that could be done in a day. ...more

I love the Michael Bennet series. Best to read in order in my opinion.
It begins with MC and Michael in Ireland and then he has to come back to NYC alone as MC has to deal with the sale of some property. Then the famous Bennet clan and Seamus have their own worried as it looks like Seamus had a health scare. Next thing you know NYC is being attacked and Michael and Emily Parker are teamed up to figure out who is doing all of these killings and trying to smother out NYC. As usual the story is action packed at times though I wish I had more on MC throughout the book as I wanted to know is she coming back to NY or will she stay there and Martin take over the Bennett 10. At times I even thought there may end up with something more with Michael and Emily. Overall a good book--did not disappoint. ...more

Maybe storyI love the Lizzie and Diesel series. I wish they would come out faster as this one seemed so long to wait since the second book was done.
Maybe story line about lost pirate treasure a bit cheesy but I still enjoyed it. Had the same characters from before with Carl and Wulf. Though I was a bit surprised at the sexual tension-content (?) between L&D as that caught me by surprise.
