There are two reasons that I did not write the review for this book right away. The first one is I was to wound up from reading it (Which is a great sign for a book) and would not be able to write an unspoiled or an actual review I have a feeling it would have been a book rant which is bad. The second reason is I really, really, really felt sad after reading the book and needed to immediately read a happy book (The One By Kiera Cass ---- Which by the way was not a completely happy book but still great)
This book is number one in the character department. You actually feel for the main character, and several others. Which is a nice change for one book stories, I liked getting to know the history and I liked the depth that the author put into the main character and her story. The readers are able to see reactions of not just the main character and teenagers, but also adults like the parents, the Police, and even doctors making the story (to me ) more real life like it could be happening in your town or a town nearby to you… Which is kind of scary (you’ll know what I mean if you read the book) but still sadly possible, giving the book a realism that some lack but need.
The locations in this book are many but they all work in context with the story, they don’t overwhelm the plot at all, the Author has actually used them to enhance the plot line by not only the setting but also as to an explanation as to how some things happen in the story. The reader is taken from the nice home, to a setting that many already find scary and keeps growing the fear for that area. The scene changes are sometimes abrupt but in this case it worked with the story and don’t make the reader confused as to where the characters are in the book which I have seen happen in stories.
The plot is very well constructed and is consistent throughout the book. The Author does insure that questions or problems in the book that happen are resolved (in a manner) so you are not left confused and biting at the quick trying to find out what happened, and then resorting to creating bizarre scenario’s in your mind that seem nothing like what you think the author intended… admit it, we’ve all done that before. The plot itself is very depressing and deep, which makes for a great story but it might cover some topics that are uncomfortable for some people so keep that in mind. This book is not meant for an easy read, while it is easy to sit down and finish it in one sitting it is because you need or really want to know what happened. I can’t go into more detail due to the fact that I would spoil a lot of the story so I’ll leave the rest of my plot review vague other that the fact the I want people to keep in mind that some of the topics that are discussed in this book are not for some people so before you pick up this book think about what it is that makes you uncomfortable and decide if that is something that you can read.
This book is amazingly written, I love it. It took me on a journey that broke my heart several times and tried to stitch it back together with its realistic explanations of how things are resolved. Also I recommend reading the authors afterword if you are at all confused by some of the topics discussed in this book because it will help you. Another good thing about this book is that it made me and my friend that has also read it appreciates our lives even more than we did before. I hope that you give this book a chance if you seem at all interested in reading it because it will not just be a story it will also teach you so much. (less)

This is a purely informative book, it is definitely written in a way that was meant to teach, so It’s not the best light read unless you really want to learn more about cruising and the industry, then I can honestly say that this is the book for you!(less)

Luckily about a quarter of the way in I was able to read it as its own story. If you have read any of Patterson’s books then you know that you’re in for a thrill ride and a glimpse into the disturbing minds of the killer before they are officially met in the book.
When I read the back cover of the book I thought that it was not going to be that exciting of a book for some reason that might be because I thought that it would be hard to be scared of a wedding Killer due to the fact that it’s not something that I personally have heard of before. Let it be known that I quickly retracted that comment after reading the first scene, it was not to gory but just enough in that it added suspense to the story.
The main characters are just introduced in this book so the reason that I didn’t see much character development might be due to the fact that it’ll probably happen more in the next books in the series. As for the characters that are just in this book I must say that the writer took his time to create these characters with well-developed back stories, he literally did that for every character even ones that were only in like two pages, You could tell because he always described them in detail. I mean I knew that that is usually how the writer does his work but it was nice to see that it was for all of the books that he writes not just the one series.
As far as the book goes for a mystery, it is very well done. As usual everything was answered at the end of the book about the killer and it was done in a way that lasted the whole novel not just the climactic ending that you know is coming. The writer made sure to have all the no-dry scenes spread thought out the book so that just as you feel the story is getting tedious something happens to draw your attention right back to the story. I find it fascinating the way that this was done and I’m glad that it was done properly because it could have been bad if he had misplaced one scene to far from another. I have heard of people giving up stories at the half way mark just because it has been to long since something happened… and I feel that, that is a waste of a potentially good book because they gave up to early while reading. I mean I have done it myself once or twice but I try to go back to the book a couple of months later and retry.
Key word tries. There is this one book I just can’t finish for all the chocolate in the world.
For the mystery buffs out there this book will not let you down. If you’re looking to start a new murder mystery series and like powerful women than this is the book for you. (less)

I’m not sure if it was my brain telling me that I needed to read something light or if in the spur of the moment I had lost my mind.
Turns out I liked the book. The only reason that it did not get four starts from me is that I didn’t find that the story ran as smoothly as it could. I loved the plot line but I just felt that some of the sentences did work together? I’m not sure if I’m explaining this right. Let’s try it this way I felt the story was created by an artist but it was colored in by someone that can’t stay inside the lines? Please remember that it’s not bad it’s just that the words might seem to end a bit abrupt?
If our looking for a quick light read then this is the book for you. It’s a nice refreshing way to pass the time on a long flight. Or even if you need a break from reading those books that make you think or that draw you in until you finish it making you think about it even when you’re at work or school.
This book had too many characters to love, and of course a certain family that makes me roll my eyes… the money grubbers. I loved the main character but the characters that made me grin the most were a certain Grandmother and an ‘Evil’ uncle. Those two are great, no seriously they are read the book just for them if the plot line is not something that you would like. Most of the characters in this book have development so you will be able to see them grow as the story goes on, and at the end of the book you will see that they are not as much like they were at the start of the story which is something that I find refreshing!
Now I’m not someone that really enjoys romance stories (to all you who know me you can stop rolling your eyes and saying ‘no really?’) Something about the girl finding the perfect man and them getting together irks me, and I don’t know why…. So as far as the romance part of this story goes I am the wrong person to ask if it is well done or not. Sorry about that.
Overall this is a well done novel and I would suggest that you give it a chance if it is something that interests you. (less)

When I finally found my copy of this book I was beyond excited to read it... and read it I did late into the night. Sleep was apparently not an option, more like a suggestion that I only gave into eventually because real life was knocking on the door. By that point in the book I both wanted to smack Haven over the head (Please note she is my favorite character) or give her a hug. Don’t ask me what my feelings on that were later in the book.
The author of this book knows how to make you fall in love with the characters and their flaws which I find is exciting and exasperating. The exasperating part would be that when the character you love does something so stupid and in one case unredeemable (Sabine… It would be a spoiler if I said anything else) you just can’t stay mad at them or suddenly decide that you hate them, which can be an emotional rollercoaster that you really didn’t want to be on… But I have this feeling that if didn’t love the characters so much that I wouldn’t love this book as much as I do. So I must say that characters are a huge part of this book the good characters and the bad.
On a completely unrelated note, or related depends on the person reading this you got to love how the author makes you love to hate the ‘evil’ characters… Feathers, I will say no more for fear that a spoiler will appear in what I write on that.
The setting of this book fascinates me because I love to learn about traveling and the culture of the area so learning more about New Orleans was exciting for me! That alone kept my attention and I love how well it fit in with the plot line. Even the questionable marsh parts. Culture, History and a good plot line what doesn’t this book have?
After all my gushing you’re probably wondering why I only gave the book 4 stars. That is simple I didn’t like the ending. In all honesty my rating for this book might change once the third book is released and I have read it, At this point I feel unsatisfied with the ending, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Which lead me to the thought of a slight happiness that I misplaced the book for so long because then I didn’t read the ending sooner and have had to wait even longer than I currently am for the not yet written final book.
This Is a great book, If you liked the first one you will like this one as well I say to read both if you haven’t and join everyone in wondering what the outcome is! Pick up a copy and become engrossed in a new world that will draw you in and not want to let go.
(view spoiler)[Please keep in mind I like happy somewhat wrapped up endings or completely resolved endings at the end of my stories so I’m biased. (hide spoiler)]["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>(less)

I found this book refreshing and fun and at the same time it made me think. I liked the fact that the book talked about cooking and the different ways that you can do it... I also was amazed at how much you could make for so little calories. That was a neat trick.
I loved the characters in this book especially the main character and I think that it was a neat trick with her name being seen as a pun for the diet guru while Gemma liked to cook. The fact that there were so many different characters that were brought it in was neat I like the clown moment as well, and I like the writer brought in that even when you put in an add in a good place you could get some strange people.
I liked the way that the book was handled and that it did take place over some time and was not rushed into one or three days, and it was nice reading from the many kitchens that she cooked in.
The fact that this was a romance, which I am not a fan of was not really put in your face and it was hidden between what was happing in the book and real life for the main character and I really liked that. I know that there is romance but it is not so bad and I like that I could handle that and not feel like it was all mushy kissy kissy.
If your looking for a fun read that draws you in then this is the book for you if your looking for a woman that loves romance but does not go looking for it and feels content in her current life then this is the book for you. (less)

I'm not sure what I expected to happen In this book. I know that I had a tiny idea of watching the Mother try to adapt with the fact that her child had money when she grew up, But other that that I really had no idea what would happen in the book.
The book is set in 4 parts that are held together by a title and the current age of Clover the daughter. The book is about the mother and how she handles everything that happens as her daughter gets invited into the richer side of the world. It is interesting to see such and originally self sufficient mother get caught up in the moment and the need to want all the expensive things. I know that part of that has to be because at first she just wants to fit in with the other parents but then she gets used to having all the stuff and needing all the extras that come with it. From the mothers point of view you get to see how her daughter grows up in this world and what she is like.
A few parts of this book reminded me of the shopaholic series except the fact that everything that the mother wants is really expensive where as Becky just wanted everything even the not so expensive parts.
The characterization in this book is nice and it has its real world moment in the characters from the mothers that are like that on the real housewives to the friend that means the world to you, to the right guy that still does not do all the right things, to even the Dad that walks away when he finds out that your pregnant. What is also nice is that you get to see all sides of the characters including the main one, whose goes from practical, to embarrassed by her real situation and friends, to being in, to realization. At the same time her daughter goes through the same thing but in different ways and in a slightly different situation and it is not as obvious because it is not a major part of what the mother tells of the story until, well you just need to read to find out what I mean.
This book is very intriguing and if you like a not so perfect mother daughter life and see how they handle it and turn it around then this is the book for you. You can see this happening to anyone so that makes this book all the more interesting.(less)

This book is a fine continuation of the previous story and it lets you know what happened to Kevin. You also learn more about the alchemists and you get to see a loop hole that comes in with the tattoo and information revel.
The characters in this book are still growing you can see some of it from how they have changed from the first book and you know that there will be more growth come next novel. You do get introduced to some new characters and.... well lets use the word faction. But you would need to read the book to understand what it is that I am talking about.
The individual plot for this book follows through and they are making head way on the overall theme and plot of the series at the same time. There is a little romance on the part of the main character in one way you see coming and the other not so much.
If you liked the first book of this series then you need to read this one to see where things are going.(less)

This books summary does not even start to describe what goes on in this book. This book does exactly what it is supposed to do and it makes you think about every dark possibility that could happen because it is mentioned. Literally I mean Alice lists things out for you.
What happens in this book much like Alice's life seems to be one horrible set of circumstances after another. Also seen in the way of domino's once you push the first one all the rest start falling behind it. The main character herself tells you that these are all bad decisions that she keeps making and even tells the readers what they should do instead. But I guess it would not be a good horror book if she had called the cops originally as she should have. Also it one of the rare horror stories that has a 'normal' woman doing most of the bad things
All of the characters in this book have something bad happen to them and most have done something bad in return. There are two characters that are not overall bad and were drawn in by the main character as she tried to clean up what had happened. Other wise they would have known nothing of what happened. You don't learn much about anyone's history the book really only mentions a little bit here and there when Alice says that it has to do with what is happing in the story at that time so the book really stays in the three or so days that everything happens.
This book has nothing paranormal in it, it is all done by humans and it can still be very creepy at parts and it just makes me more certain that I will never live in house that is A. In the middle of nowhere and B. Backs onto woods.
If you are looking for a good old fashioned horror story then this is the book for you.(less)

The summary of this book certainly drew my attention, I bought this book based of that and the cover. I liked the book for the most part. I just didn't like certain parts of the book if you look at it from this point of view that means that the book drew me in enough that I actually made opinions based on certain points of this book alone. Its not like those cases where you read it and you either like the book or hate the book. No its a case of I loved most of the book there were just parts that got to me, which I personally think indicates a good writer.
This is not a modern day book. This book takes place back when Psychiatry was still in the phases of having a large learning curve which means that a lot of the things that are mentioned and that happened are not used anymore which is explained by the writer himself in the afterword of the book so if you know a lot about that field then you need to let go of what you know to enjoy this book to its full potential.
The book is written mostly from the point of view of Dr. Richardson, with small breaks between chapters of letter written by other doctors referring patients to Dr. Maitland. The patients in the letters are the ones that are in the sleep room so they are referenced in the book in other places so they don't just disappear once you read the letter.
While the book is about the sleep room you are not only reading about what happens in the sleep room you are also reading about what is going on around and for the main character in and outside of the area that he is working.
The horror in this book is not all that in your face it sort of sneaks in and surprises you at moments in the book and then are reminded to the reader later on in the book when it is being looked into closer on by the main character. The subtlety of the horror is handled nicely and in a different way then is used to in todays horror stories.
I will not even talk about the ending but lets just say that your in for a surprise with these twists.
If you looking at this book and all that is mentioned in this review is your taste then I say give this book a try.(less)

Have you ever picked up a book read it and when you get to the ending find yourself wanting bang your head on the table or just throw the book around the room yelling "DNGIOAHD GWHDJB UHFJSHF" At the top of your lungs because the ending is that bad. That was my reaction to this books ending. I hated this books ending, it was abrupt like it had been slapped together in a hurry or like the writer didn't care how it ended just that it did?
Don't get me wrong some people might like this books ending I don't know how but I'm sure it is exactly what someone wanted. The writer might have even intended for this book to end like this.
Alright trying to ignore the ending lets talk about the rest of the book and the characters. You don't really get to know the characters that well as there are so many of them fit into a short book that has a lot of killing scenes and gore. Many of the characters have no redeeming qualities and the ones that do, you don't see very often. I think that the book was written to be seen in this way.
Classic murder house in a small town story, classic youth viewing of said house. So no disappointment there.
So if your looking for a good gore book then this is one for you the ending works well in it if it is just read as a gore book.(less)

I actually read this book over the Christmas break from my classes and honestly thought I had out my review, I guess all the projects I was working on at the time distracted me… and took all my energy. I must say reading this book surrounded by festive decorations and taking breaks to do festive things was strange I would go from murder to cheer and then back again. Something else was my sister is a huge buff on Marie Antoinette and her history so every time she saw me reading this book she would make this face and walk away, kind of ruining the mood.
The characters in this book were not as developed as in the authors Bad Girl’s series but that makes sense because she spent three books with those characters and their history and actions whereas with this book it was just the one time. I think that if the author were to bring back Collete, Her brother and her mother in another book we would get to see more in depth into the characters like we did in Bad Girls. Maybe I just need to think of this like another writer wrote it because if I did that we did learn a lot about the characters just not as much as I was used to due to the other series the Author had written.
Paris, a place I have never been to but heard a lot about. It was nice to see the city from the eyes of someone new to town and also entertaining to read about things I have only heard about from other people. What I mean is, is that the setting of the book is in such a widely known and talked about place that you will have at least heard about once or twice and some of the places that are visited have many pictures on the internet and in books that you can’t help but close your eyes and imagine your version of what the characters look like standing in that location acting out a scene in the book. I personally find that it adds a lot to the story by making it feel real, like it’s really happing because you can ‘see’ it in those pictures. It adds a touch to the story that not a lot of other books have and I find that a nice touch and think the writer did an excellent job with that.
The plotline of this book was not my favorite but the Author wrote it in such a way that I did enjoy it and would read it again if I ever need a good book to read, which pleasantly surprised me because I honestly went into reading this book expecting to not like it other than the fact that it was written by an author that I really liked. I am happy to have been proven wrong, it just shows the potential that this writer has. It also shows that this author can weave quite the tale.
If you like paranormal and murder mystery all in one book then this is the book for you, it will not let you down and delivers on everything that it promises and more. You will see some great development through this novel. (less)
