Don't get me wrong, I am not completely heartless and the ending did make me cry. However, I just felt that it was over-hyped. It's not a book that I would read again or recommend someone else to read. I think there are far better dog books (granted the ones I am referencing are fiction) than Marley & Me.(less)

It's also unique because it is told from the dog's perspective. Enzo believes that being a dog is the last stage of life before you are reincarnated into a human. With this knowledge he tells his owner's story, who is a race car driver, and imparts wisdom about how life is like racing. I must admit, dating a car guy helped me appreciate and understand the racing references even more than I would have if I knew nothing about the sport. Still, race car driver or not, this book is great and you will need a box of tissues with you when you come to end!(less)

I also saw that it appears on many school's curriculum's, but I had never read it. I'm glad I did. It's a beautiful, yet sad story. It begs the question: Is ignorance really bliss? I think everyone should read this story because it is interesting, controversial and moving. It will make you think while tugging at your heart strings.(less)

However, as time went on, it becomes clear who the speakers are and how their stories all tie together. I must admit, this book is completely written in stream of conscience, which would can be a turn-off (if you hate Catcher in the Rye this is probably not the book for you). But through all of that there still was some beauty in the words of the text that made me want to keep reading. Would I suggest this book to anyone? Probably not because it is somewhat difficult to navigate through; however, I still thought it was good and would love to go back through and pick out some of the lines to write down - while most were sad they rang of truth.
