Late nights, aloof behavior, missing dinners - they all lead up to an increase in suspicion that weighs heavily on her mind as she wonders whether or not she should trust her instincts. She doesn't know what to do or how to handle the situation and her friends are no help. One friend advises her to go have an affair, while another tells her she's being paranoid and is driving him away. Who to believe? In the midst of all this, she has a teenage daughter who's acting out, and Ellen is overwhelmed trying to keep her family together and her sanity in place... Then Jeffrey disappears. From that moment on, Ellen feels her world crashing down around her, and everything she thought she knew about her family proves to be just the surface of a very deep iceberg.
This book was outstanding, well-written and fast-paced. Ellen was so realistic that I could relate to her every decision, her fears, frustration and helplessness as though these emotions were my own. I was on the edge of my seat all the way to the stunning ending, and I felt I was right in the midst of the drama as it played out.
Can you overcome the loss of trust following a cheating spouse? In Ms. Ambrose's realistic portrayal of Ellen's situation, you can understand how a woman would feel following an affair, how difficult it is to regain the trust that has been severed, and how dramatically it impacts an entire family. Written with a touch of humor, you can't help but sympathize with Ellen's insecurities and laugh at her foibles. In addition to the very real situations, there was an intense element of suspense as Ellen struggled to find out what Jeffrey was up to, and you're anxiously turning pages to get to the shocking end. I can't recommend this book highly enough, for it definitely left an impact with me. If you're looking for a fast, lifelike piece of women's fiction, look no further. You won't regret it. ...more

The author’s knowledge of the realities of Islamic life made the story very realistic and at times almost frightening. It was very easy to sympathize with the young Islamic women who were trapped in the traditional household but wanted to escape. You also could respect their culture despite the suspicion and sometimes hatred with which the ment of the family viewed Austia. The loyalty and dedication that the main character, Austia, had for both her faith and her friends was heartwarming and touching. In the midst of these emotions, you are held captive by the drama and suspense of the story. Will Hussein succeed in his evil plotting, is Zaki hunting Austia, and will Fatima be able to escape her abusive husband before he kills her? Most pressing: will there be another round of terrorist attacks inside the US? As the questions unfold, the author skillfully leads you down an intense road of tension, fear and excitement that keep you turning pages eagerly as you wait for the stunning climax to unfold. I really enjoyed this thought-provoking tale! ...more

It’s a collection of stories that carry a melancholic theme but don’t be dismayed! There is so much hope and optimism in this collection that you cannot help but smile and finish with such a feel-good feeling in your heart that you’ll be pleased you spent an afternoon absorbing all that emotion in one brief read. This author is a master in expressing triumph over difficulties, both physically and mentally, that you can’t help but love each tale inside.
I must admit that I’m not usually a fan of shorts mainly because in my eyes the story isn't always developed enough. This is DEFINITELY not the case here. Ms. Darling does an absolutely amazing job in plot, action, conflict, and emotion to give you an entire tale in a few short pages. Now that’s definitely skill! If you want a feel-good read, check this out! ...more

We meet L.B., a borderline sociopath with a short temper and a penchant for violence. As a soldier in the Confederate Army, he seems to have found a niche for his personality, and it is during this time he is rumored to have committed a murder. The author does a nice job in describing L.B.’s cruelty balanced against his terror of his ghostly companion. He also handles the historical aspect of the story with care and just enough detail to transport the reader back into those difficult days. An accurate tale of the horror of war and the fear of karma, I highly recommend this short for a frightening ghost story to pass around a campfire!...more

This was such a realistic portrait into the investigation of a serial killer that I was both shocked and repulsed while I was eagerly turning the pages to find out what would happen next. In this first Matt Davis mystery, you are introduced to Matt, a NYC detective. He's well-respected and admired, and he's just one step above burnout. He has a great partner, a decent boss, and last but not least a difficult case to solve. A serial killer is on the loose, charming women through chat rooms and then killing them. As always, Mr. Perrone does a fantastic job in developing his mysteries, giving you just enough clues while weaving a fascinating backstory behind it. Furthermore, he does a spectacular job in developing the mystery. How will the perp be caught with so little to go on for proof? As far as the setting goes, it’s a faster-paced novel, which suits the NYC backdrop, and the cast of characters seem more intense, perhaps a result of their residence in the big city. Well done, in my opinion, a well-crafted transition. This book is slightly more graphic than books two and three, but it suits the crimes and was not gratuitous. If you are looking for an intense, well-written and thought out thriller go no further. This is an excellent tale for mystery lovers....more

Justice rules - and this time it arrives not just in the form of the police. In this installment, Mr. Perrone weaves a touch of personal trauma in Matt Davis’ life with his wife’s health issues. It gives him that much more of a realistic feel, and I just loved how he hops in his Jeep to do a little chasing toward the end of the story. Okay… moving on. This tale revolves around the use of snake handling via the Pentecostal Church, and Mr. Perrone did a wonderful job in developing the Winona and Ron characters and their background. You almost feel bad for them until you begin to wonder what exactly they are up to and what is their ultimate goal. Once again I’ve found this to be a well-researched and enthralling police mystery that really had me guessing what was going to happen next. In addition to the familiar, well-known characters, Mr. Perrone introduces a few new ones, and they are just charismatic enough to keep you hoping they’ll appear again. I really enjoyed this installment. A delicious and intriguing read...more

With dragons, elves, wizards, and humans, it is an entertaining mix of excellent character development and interesting conflicts that kept me turning pages. The novel is fairly long, but the pace continued forward and contained little filler. Once you caught a grasp of which character was who in the large and detailed cast, you progressed smoothly through the story. The author did a fantastic job in tying in all the curious pieces and giving just enough away to keep you in the loop. The climax was concluded in much the same manner. All questions were answered, our heroes learned their roles and accepted them, and the final question?…Will good triumph over evil with the help of the amulet? You will have to read to find out! I thoroughly enjoyed this well-written and adventurous story, and I’m sure many in the future will too....more

I couldn’t put it down. When Jane wakes up in the hospital, she’s lost four years of her life. From that moment, she’s faced with returning memories and mysteries, and she finds that not everyone in her life is who they seem to be. Ms. Millmore very skillfully places enough doubt and hope around her characters to keep you guessing up to the end, and she also paints a vivid picture of the confusion and fear Jane feels from the start. Jane was a very believable heroine, tough and smart, and although she’s struggling with the flashes of memory she has enough wisdom to keep her fear at bay. Her mysterious husband and two ‘changed’ best friends will make you wonder just who is truly on her side. The suspense builds when Jane finally meets the little doctor, who seems to have all the answers but just never has the chance to reveal it all. As the story progresses, you start biting your nails as you jump to conclusions on your own. It is not a disappointing end. Everything is revealed, and yet you hope there will be another chapter in this captivating novel. ...more

Right from the very start you know you are going to adore Tristan. Told from his point of view, you follow Tristan’s decision to go from a confirmed and cynical bachelor to a man who wants a child of his own and will do anything he can to have one, including paying a single mom. This story had me from the very first page and kept me riveted to the heartwarming end.
Tristan was easy to like, very honest and had plenty of faults that were so realistic that you could easily relate to him. There were times when I laughed out loud, felt a tear form in my eye, and most of all felt the tug on my heart strings while Tristan fumbled his way through life and the momentous decisions he had made. Although sometimes I stumbled a bit with Marie’s dialect, I loved her character and continued reading eagerly. Spunky, wise and caring, she did a fabulous job in grounding Tristan, and she was the perfect contrast for him. Mr. Evans did a fantastic job in expressing how much Marie teaches him during the story, and you cannot help but admire her strength. I cannot recommend this story high enough. A five-star + for feel-good factor! ...more
