Just FYI - this is a messy review in that I stream of consciousness the comments.. :)
First off - Characters are really good... I really clicked with them. Even though there is zero background on them, it sort of worked in this context... We grow as they grow.
Plot is really well developed. A couple of stumbling points for me nothing major but enough to make me pause.. I know I get whiney about character development normally but today I'm going to get whiney about the fact that the plot is based on two people who spend a whole shitload of time together (yes I know sometimes they sleep) but they live and work together, particularly in the later half of the book... what do they do for the hours when they are on down time??? do they NOT talk??? I mean really the number of times something was mentioned as part of the story development and then just ignored... I get the driving force behind Lucas's motivation... I get that Noah is acting in a way he see's fit.. but seriously some of the plot could have been resolved just in basic conversation..
SO after that little outburst... I still think this was a bloody good read... I think that the situations were at least as close to realistic as possible and that the end sort of made up for the frustration I had in the middle..
I do reckon this book is a step above the usual werefare out there in M/M romance.. Now if we can just fade to grey on the multiple sex scenes at the end... maybe use a different plot device?? I will stand on my soap box and say that a couple of the sex scenes in this were less about titillation and more relevant to the story than just about any other story I've read... which is also another point in this books favour.. and anyone who has been unfortunate to be within hearing range when I rant and rave about stupid sex scenes in books will know the concession this is.
I haven't rated this for 5 stars because it's an Aussie author... This is five star reading.. I want to see the next installment really soon - and hopefully a lot chunkier... There was some skillful character set up in this and I would hope there is more to come.
Story line also rocked out being both creative and different. Only one plot hole - so to speak, (you'll understand if you read!)But honestly it add's to the story as opposed to ones that detract :)
edit - I just had a thought! This is a really good reflection on a bit of Aussie culture so is a great example for overseas people. I would highly recommend this for this reason alone, fortunately the story is superb as well. Enjoy.(less)
Looking at my shelves is probably not a good idea with this anthology. as it's not specifically paranormal or vamps... or romance or mm.

This is a great selection of writing that showcases writings by Australian authors in the queer arena. And some of those writers are scarily brilliant. Some are known, some not so well but I think all the included stories really do raise the bar on what to expect in the future out of Australia. Certainly beat's a lot of the crap coming out of the US publishers at the moment, which is probably not fair on the authors contained within this anthology because they probably shouldn't be compared that way.
Any way do yourself a treat, grab a copy from Clandestine and find some great stories to pass your day.. (less)
Hmmmm what to say about this without giving anything away....
Well written and quite on edge in the last 3rd of the book. The first 2/3 easily held me...moreHmmmm what to say about this without giving anything away....

Characters are well developed. A couple of missed opportunities to give background, but realistically weren't required to complete this story.
No real plot holes come to mind. Keep in mind that this is fantasy fiction in regards to the story line.
Quite frankly I really gave this story 5 because of the way i was feeling through the whole book. I would strongly recommend this if you are wanting something fantasy orientated, that will flip you around a little emotionally. :) (less)
