Parts of it were a bit silly because since it's a choose your own autiobiography there are fake endings and stories. I admit that having the audio version has pros and cons. Pros are that NPH narrates it himself and there's even actual sound footage of his speeches. Cons are that you can't skip around in a normal choose your own adventure book cause it's an audiobook so you have to listen to everything. But it can be fun especially during Neil's "if you want to hear about your tragic and untimely death keep listening" parts.
I may have to get the physical copy of the book just to see the differences....more

I honestly wanted Taylor to die fairly early on in the book. But by the end I was happy that she didn't cause I found a new sort of respect for her character. It's funny how a character can start out as the most annoying and actually prove to be one of the most effective later on. I enjoyed each of the girls' stories because it helped to flesh each of them out. At times the book seemed a bit preachy when it came to certain issues but I did enjoy the satirical approach to the style of how the book was presented especially when it came to the Corporation which harks very true to capitalistic society as we know it.
I think the only thing that turned me off a bit was the arrival of the pirates. To me it seemed a little out of place almost and didn't really fit in with the rest of the plot. It almost seemed like added drama at times and unnecessary. But I LOVED the climax toward the end of the book and the power point presentation manual override was probably one of my favorite things.
If you do check it out, I recommend listening to the audiobook because Libba Bray does a fantastic job at all the different voices and the sound effects really add to the story. ...more

This book was very informative on how several albums during the period of 1976-1979 came about and what the influences were on several songs. Sometimes the narrative is a little technical with presenting facts but it is also a bio so I'll give it some credit for not having Susanna Clarke style prose.
I really liked the breakdown of each song from the era. Reading the book made me want to check out the two Iggy Pop albums that Bowie helped co-write and/or produce and also revealed some cool things that I did not know about certain songs (like the true meaning of "Heroes"). Having gone to Berlin recently I kind of hoped that the book would touch a bit on the sites that Bowie would frequent because it mentioned several places but only in passing (the exception being Hansa Studios)....more
