The Wherlock’s are a family with many gifts and secrets and pasts they don’t wish to relive.
Where do I start??? Do I love the book? No. Do I like it? Yes. Something was just off for me. I think I expected Argus Wherlocke’s story to be….well something more. In the prior books he was such a strong character. I did not feel his strength in this novel. Yes, there were circumstances that would take away some of that strength, but still it just didn’t do it for me. I had higher hopes for Argus and maybe that was my problem. I loved Argus in prior books and I wanted to really love him in his book.
The heroine was Lorelei Sundun, a daughter of a Duke. She was a lovely lady. Very strong and open minded, something Argus needs, but doesn’t recognize. He knows he wants her, but doesn’t believe he deserves her. Lorelei is from a wonderful family and has an amazing father. She is a well balanced woman, perfect for Argus.
I enjoyed the read, but it was slow. The characters were well written, but the storyline didn’t really grab me. I had no problem finishing it, but would it have kept me up all night? No. That for me is a given for a great book. Even the villain in this book was lackluster. Argus deserved a stronger adversary. No real mystery in the book.
I’m not sure who or if there will be another book. Most indications from book sites is that the Wherlock Series was to be a trilogy. I do hope that Ms. Howell continues with this wonderful family. While “If He’s Dangerous” was not my favorite novel in the series I would still recommend reading it. ...more

While it follows along the same line as most historical romances, it had wonderful differences too.
The hero was a rogue bachelor. Big surprise there! Not too many historicals don’t have handsome, antisocial men (because we just eat them up). Gayle Windham had wonderful qualities. He loves his family - an amazing caregiver for them, strong willed, loyal, funny, oh I could go on and on…His goal in life – take care of his family, eventually become Duke and never ever marry…until he meets his headstrong lovely housekeeper.
The heroine, Anna Seaton, is a woman with a hidden past. She is Lord Windham’s housekeeper. She does an amazing job, keeps a tight ship, and is refined and thorough with her care for the Earl. She has secrets…and nothing is going to keep her from keeping them. Not even a gorgeous infuriating Earl.
“The Heir” is an easy read. You fall in love with Gayle and Anna, but you also fall for all the supporting characters. The Grace does a great job weaving them into the story. I finished the book wanting to know what was going to happen next with every one of them.
I highly recommend “The Heir”. I couldn’t put it down. I laughed at the shenanigans of the Duke and the Earl’s brothers and wanted to shake both Gayle and Anna at times. While the ending did drag out for me (I wanted them to get it together, like NOW), I still enjoyed the storyline. I am looking very forward to the next story of the Windham brothers. ...more

There is a great werewolf in the story and there is love involved, but this is not a werewolf love story. Ok, now that has been said.
What a great story!! I loved the 2.5 main characters (I’ll explain later).
In this story there are Magickal ones…vampires, werewolves, witches and fae. While they are hidden from the Normals, that would be us, they are mainstream.
Chloe Standish is a woman with a heartbreaking past. While she has worked hard to become the strong independent woman she is today, she still has many scars. Merek Kingston is a man that still lives in the past. Not able to get over his past to move onto the future. When these two meet up for a one night stand, sparks fly literally.
Thrown back together months after their brief affair, they enjoy the passion they share for each other, but fight the future they could have together. They must work side-by-side to stay alive along with Chloe’s godson Alex (that is the 0.5). The three of them are fighting against the odds as the Magickal community seems to be all against them.
There is passion from the first page to the very last. While it is very hot passion, it was all held within context and delightfully done. Ms. Jordan knows how to write great scenes from sex to action all the way to interpersonal ones. She did a great job!
There is no great mystery, no real deep plot or surprise. Just a well told story of 3 people coming together to form a lifelong bond. It’s a great summer read that is not too light or too heavy. If you want to escape, grab this book!! ...more

There is no indication that this is #5 in a series. Yes, this book can be read alone, but there are four books before this one that includes all the couples you read about in “One Night Scandal”. In fact, this book could very well be the last of the stories of the couples. Here is the list of other books: Something Scandalous Every Night I’m Yours Every Time We Kiss Scandal of the Season
That being said…I really liked this book. It kept me up all night long, well I did finally go to bed at 4:30am, but I could not put it down. I will likely read the other books by this author. This was a one sitting book.
If you are a stickler about history, language, customs and all that stuff you may not like this book. I don’t read historical romances for that. Yes, I do enjoy those types of books, by my focus is usually on the characters and storyline.
Sophie Reynard is a bastard, plain and simple. While she does not hide the fact, she does honor that stigma within society. She knows her place and she doesn’t push the situation. She is lonely though and wants to find her true love. She is a matchmaker that has helped all her friends find love and now she wants what they have found.
Nicholas Tenbury is the Marquess of Ancroft. He is a man above most men in society. He is a future duke who knows that his station in life requires him to find a wife and start a family. He will do his duty, but only on his terms. He wants love in his life, home and heart.
Sophie is a medium and sees her future husband and sees Nicholas. They share a steamy night of passion, but then Sophie loses her future visions when it comes to Nicholas. She runs away from him, leaving him to find a better future then a bastard for a wife. Nicholas can’t get Sophie out of his mind. She is all he ever thinks about and is determined to find her.
This story is about them finding each other and the obstacles they must hurdle to come together. The characters are fun to read about, the scenes are sexy and the story is well paced. This is a pleasant story to read, with no confusing mystery or suspense. It would be a lovely poolside/backyard read. Easy to put down and come back to, but you won’t want to. It grabbed a hold of me and wouldn’t let go. ...more

FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE – Jorie O’Clare – 4 Stars
Mary Hamilton as always loved Nate Armstrong. Growing up together and living on the same street, wasn’t enough for a happily ever after though. One tragedy later, things have changed. Years apart has not cooled the want for Mary. She still loves Nate and is determined not to let things just pass her by anymore.
Nate’s world has been crushed. Nothing will ever be the same. From this heartbreak there is a new light and it is Mary. The pesky neighbor girl is all grown up and a breath of fresh air.
This is a nice story of two people that have always been meant for each other. The nemesis in the story seems like an afterthought, but since his part is so tiny in the story, it can be forgiven. Great little story with a happy ending.
HEAT WAVE – P.J. Mellor – 3 Stars
While a fun story to read, this story had something missing for me.
Summer Wadsworth is a divorcee moving on with her life. Times are hard for her and after a house fire; times are going to be a bit rougher and hotter. Thorne Paxton is new in town and just met the most ridiculous woman. Could she be the one for him?
The humor of their circumstances was refreshing. Nothing seems to go right for these two. I also enjoyed the supporting cast. It made me want to have neighbors as great as those lovely ladies. The story seemed forced and ended abruptly. It was a sweet read but had very little depth to it.
SMOLDERING LUST – Lydia Parks – 4.5 Stars
Saving the best for last.
Hannah Hayward has been attracted to Lee Evans since her junior year in high school. One smoldering kiss her senior year and 14 years later Lee is back in town and sexier than ever. Lee has always had Hannah up upon a pedestal. The prize he never could claim. He came back home to have closure. Seeing Hannah has renewed his old feelings for her and they are sexier than ever.
This is an easy going story of two people who know what they want and are about to get it. The only disappointment I have with this story is that it ended. I wanted more of them. ...more

Zoey Tyler is“Changeling Moon” is the first book in a new shapeshifter series. The second book is scheduled to come out June 28th, “Changeling Dream”.
Zoey Tyler is the new editor for the town’s newspaper. She is a city girl who needed to get away for the big city and away from herself. She is fact driven and strong willed. She is enjoying the quiet life and the scenery. Zoey is not your typical woman. She has her own secrets and fears, and she wants them to stay hidden.
Connor Macleod is the area veterinarian. He has an amazing gift that allows him to communicate with his patients. His life is his practice and his extended family – his pack. Conner is a changeling and now his and the packs way of life is in jeopardy. He will do all he can to protect it.
One cold icy night and everyone’s life has changed forever. Now Zoey has been transformed into something she knows nothing about and Conner is drawn to Zoey to do more than just help her with her change. Problem is there is a force dead set on destroying them and the whole town.
“Changeling Moon” is a nice read. While we see the couple is destined to be together and we know who the villain is, we still have surprises along the way. Ms. Harper has done a wonderful job helping us get to know the characters and her new take on the shapeshifter genre. I am looking forward to the next installment and was very pleasantly surprised that it is coming out within month of this books release. The Macleod’s we have met so far are amazing characters and I can’t wait to meet more of them.
I recommend “Changeling Moon” for an effortless summer read. The story has all one needs for a good read…hot love scenes, hot men, and a touch of humor. ...more

While novella #1, “Sabine” is a wonderful read, I feel it is not necessary to read it to delve right into novella #2. Moira has done a great job of connecting the two stories, but they can still be read alone. Now that I said that, don’t miss out on reading “Sabine”.
Kisri is the last of the royal females in her family. Well sought after and desired. She wants more though. She wants to be chosen for herself not her position or money.
Ennon is the First Warlord of the Plains. He is a strong man with money and position. He has worked hard for his High Lord and is very devoted to him and his people.
Kisri runs away from being forced into a mating she does not desire. Doing so has thrown her into Ennon’s path. He is now charged to return her to her cousin, Malrion the High Lord of the Plains. Kisri is determined to free herself from her obligations and claim her own life and love. Ennon is a man with a mission. Return his High Lord’s cousin safe and sound. Both discover that they will get more than they bargained for.
I loved and hated “Kisri”. I’ll start with the hate so you don’t get me wrong. I hated that it was short and I loved the characters so much that I wanted more development of them. I went into this story knowing it was a novella. They are supposed to be short and sweet (oh and hot too). When I was done, I just wanted more, much more.
I loved the story even do to its brevity. It had all that was needed to be fulfilling yet make you want more. The interaction between Kisri and Ennon was great. You felt their frustrations and their passion. I found myself smiling and sighing.
“Kisri” is a very enjoyable novella. A wonderful short read. I hope you pick up both “Sabine” and “Kisri”. They complement the storyline very well. Here’s hoping there are more stories to come. ...more
