Kota's huntKota's senior year started off with a traditional hunt and tribute to the Great White Wolf, a figurehead of protection for her local town. Kota's hunt always meant something a little more to her than her friends. She was the superstitious sort and felt that the hunt held clues to how her school year would play out. This year, Kota and her best friend, Sue, both hit the same deer. For Kota, this meant they would be bound together by something this year.
The Peters' family have just moved to town, and they happen to have twin boys, Ivan and Connelley. What better way to link a friendship together further for the school year than best friends dating twins? As wonderful as it sounds, the Peters' family comes to town with trouble snapping at their heels, and nothing comes easy for Kota, her friend Sue, or the Peters' family themselves.
Ensuing Darkness was a fantastic debut novel by Sabrina Giles. Anyone interested in YA Paranormal should definitely take a chance on this one. It has a little teen romance. Some of it comes easy to the characters, and for others, it's hard won. It's nice to see a relationship that doesn't start off with a "true love at first sight" scenario. It's also refreshing to see a couple that have real world problems, or rather, paranormally real problems. Romance isn't everything in this book though. There is an actual story, with some action, some heartache, and a whole lot of spirit. YA Paranormal lovers will not want to miss out on this one!
I can't wait to find out why Kota reacts the way she does to certain people, after all, it's rather shocking! I am also curious to see what's going on with the white wolf. There are plenty of questions left unanswered that will definitely keep me coming back for more as the series progresses.
Sabrina Giles is definitely an up-in-coming author to keep your eyes on, and Ensuing Darkness is worth a read! Take a peek at it, and don't forget to leave reviews when you're done!...more

If not for those things listed below, this could have easily been a 5 star book. I'm excited to read more by Nikki Drost, because I enjoyed her story-telling, and I think her books are only going to get better and better as she continues to write.
I'm really hoping she does a follow up so we can find out more about Jamie and Kelsey, and maybe some of the other brothers too! :)
The things that knocked my rating down: - typos/grammar Normally, I am very forgiving of typos & grammar issues, but there were a lot of them. Hopefully, the author will go in and fix those issues. - POV changes The POV changes were a bit jarring at times. I wish the author had tossed ~*~ character name ~*~ tag of some sort at the beginning of each chapter. It sometimes took half a page or more to realize whose point of view I was in, and then I'd have to go back and re-read so things made sense. - Accents written out This is my own pet peeve. By all means tell me about an accent, but don't overdo it with trying to spell every word out the way it sounds. I struggled with reading through the Irish and Bostonian character accents. Again, this is a personal pet peeve that not everyone shares, but it made reading certain characters frustrating for me.

This world is a disaster, and through the eyes of 10 year old Megan, we navigate it. There are only brief glimmers of hope in a shattered world, and yet she knows nothing else. The nasties are out there, waiting to feast on her, but the humans in this world don't seem to be any better. Watching her grow, learn, and fight for survival will keep you on nail-biting edge as you breeze through this fast-paced work of art. I have never been so excited to continue on with a series as I am this one, and fall can't come soon enough. I now need the adrenaline fix that comes along with reading this dark delight! ...more

Bourke wraps the 2012 end of times predictions, Mayan calendar, and some pretty cool mythology together and spins them into a modern coming of age tale.
Jaguar Sun was a fantastic YA paranormal read. My only complaint about the book was that it seemed a bit rushed. I would have liked a few more details in the sometimes hurried plot. That being said, I definitely look forward to reading more from the author and the series....more
