The plot Katherine Neville created with The Eight is incredible, intertwined with history and myth and science. Her characters are wonderful, and she does a great job of keeping us wondering until the end who is really on the "good" side. As a writer, I am truly stunned by the intricacy of this plot. Anyone who enjoyed The Da Vinci Code should enjoy The Eight, and it is a better book, in my opinion. A must read, especially for writers learning craft!(less)

I can't give it 5 stars because it didn't engage me quite as much as some of her others, and I did figure out who the real bad guy was with about 40 pages to go, but I still loved it and read most of it in a day. Definitely recommend!(less)

In her debut novel, Catie Rhodes does an amazing job of making Peri come to life. Her voice is one of the strongest I've read in a long time, and from the first page, I felt entirely in Peri's head.
The mystery is just as compelling. When her cousin is murdered, Peri sets out to find out who killed her. Filled with red herrings and chilling encounters with the spirit world, Peri is thrown headlong into a mystery centered around an ages old local treasure.
Forever Road is fast paced, well plotted, and Rhodes' writing is excellent. I can't wait to read the second book in the Peri Jean Mace series!(less)

I tend to shy away from true romantic suspense because I lean much more toward suspense, but Stacey has a talent for blending the two together without going over the top. Loved the main characters and love the back and forth between them. Definitely recommend to all lovers of suspense, mystery, or romance:)(less)

The main character, Lisa, is a strong female with a past that's initially hard to figure out. We know she's grown up rough on the streets of Rio, but her real story is a mystery. We're in her head right away, and as a reader, I really enjoyed seeing her empathized with the street kids she's so attached to. Parzefall does a great job of giving each character - major and secondary - a flavor of their own, and that's a tough trick.
And then there is our bad guy, this creep in the shadows who's watching and waiting. Parzefall keeps the reader on their toes as we try to figure out if he ties into Lisa's past and what exactly he wants - and when he'll finally strike.
In the end, Lisa's got to save everyone, and without giving too much away, she shows her true merit as she fights for what's right. Strays of Rio is a suspenseful ride in ugly side of Rio de Janerio, a dark trip into the gritty realities of life on the streets and the cruelty of human nature. Engaging right from the start, it's a book readers won't be able to finish fast enough.

Psychopaths and their pathology is misunderstood by many of us, and MANY more walk around with the rest of us than we realize. Hare not only teaches us what they are and what motivates them, but gives incite on how to potentially spot and what to do if you've been caught in a psychopath's web.(less)

It's written for the layperson, and I not only learned a lot about the role of a forensic psychologist in general, but also more about how the system works. She did a really good job of explaining different symptoms by delving into various cases she's worked throughout her career. I'd recommend this to anyone trying to get a better understanding of the field.(less)

It had been a long time since I first read, and I understood not only the writing craft but the subject matter much better. Capote's storytelling and obvious concern for the killers - if not a bias - make for an incredible read. This is a must for everyone.(less)
