Writing as A.R CRIMSON, USA TODAY Bestselling Author, Renee Bernard has done it again, by breaking out of the box of the mainstay genre mold by creating a Penny Dreadful style romance with a ton of steam and loads of humor.
Shanna Turner has everything going for her. She’s rich, beautiful and dating the college dreamboat, but during a cruise with her class mates her world gets turned upside down…and end over end, when she falls off the ship!
Cursed for centuries, Captain Lucien DeVair is a man out of time and running out of hope that the spell will ever be lifted.
When he saves a blonde haired siren from the sea, their worlds collide and the sparks fly like the 4th of July!
I love a good hot and steamy romance and when you find one with so many elements that you enjoy combined–historical Alpha male, a spit-fire heroine, supernatural curses and as mentioned, a zombi-fied pirate crew–the result is going to be hours of unadulterated reading bliss.
But don’t be fooled by the darker elements, because we’re talking about a book by Renee Bernard, which means there is just as much to make you laugh as there is to fuel your fantasies. Put all together it’s a perfectly paced, pure entertainment read that will keep you under it’s spell from beginning to end. ...more

Not only does Ms. Rodale present a brilliant finish to her wonderful “Bad Boys and Wallflowers” series, but her departure from the more light-hearted romance of the earlier books is a bold step for an author to take, especially when dealing with such a powerfully painful issue like rape. As a fan of the series I’ve grown to love Prudence’s character and the emotionally charged way that Ms. Rodale wrote the scenes in which Prudence flashes back and later confesses the entirety of what happened to her, brought tears to my eyes, several times. In fact, I needed a hanky quite a bit while reading this story, but just as often they were tears of joy from the genuinely sweet and patient way in which the hero—and he was one—John, treated and protected Prudence at the potential cost of his own freedom. I won’t divulge any details on that final bit, because you will just have to read it for yourself to discover his secret. Despite the very serious and dark issues addressed in this story, Ms. Rodale still manages to infuse their romance with great moments of humor to take the edge off, heroic deeds and an ending that will definitely leave you with a smile. Very Highly Recommended!
Grace Burrowes NEVER fails to please, but there is something extra special about the launch book in her new “Captive Hearts” trilogy, CAPTIVE! In theirGrace Burrowes NEVER fails to please, but there is something extra special about the launch book in her new “Captive Hearts” trilogy, CAPTIVE! In their own way, both Christian and Gillian were held captive and tortured—Christian, through war and Gilly, through a horrific marriage—but as happens in real life, these characters escaped their bondage only to find surviving can be just as difficult. When these two wounded souls first meet it is Gillian who launches a subtle campaign to bring Christian out of his shell for the sake of his daughter, using gentle touches and small courtesies that are heartbreakingly sweet. As they grow closer and Christian realizes that he is not only one who has suffered the tables turn and he becomes determined to prove to Gilly that she deserves the love and happiness he has to offer. Tears came to my eyes so many times I lost count and over the simplest moments—a caress on the cheek, a comforting shoulder to cry one—those precious gestures we sometimes take for granted but Ms. Burrowes weaves beautifully into each and every story she writes. Beyond the lovely telling of Christian and Gilly’s story, we see the return of a beloved character (Devlin St. Just) and gain disturbing, but compelling insights into a character who will soon fill the pages of his own story when this trilogy continues, (Sebastian St. Claire). I promise you will love CAPTIVE and highly recommend to those who have never read a book by Grace Burrowes to do so at their earliest convenience, they are all truly wonderful! ...more
THIS is not my usual, full review--which will no doubt come soon--but more like something I just had to say after reading this marvelous book.

I am one of those people who anticipate the cliffhanger at the end of a television show or movie with equal parts dread and excitement, but rarely do those feelings crossover into my other guilty pleasure of historical romance. Renee Bernard has pulled it off with panache twice now—in a row, I might add—first with the introduction of Raven Well’s saga, LADY FALLS and now with the second act, in this uniquely bold trilogy, LADY RISES!
Ms. Bernard has left me temporarily speechless and willing to grovel on bended knee to read the conclusion. I will update with a full review when my head isn't swimming with all the possibilities of what will happen next when the series concludes! ...more
