This isn't about a diet--I'm looking for a life change and one that is sustainable. The downside is--I've abused myself with garbage eating for so long, I have deep-rooted habits to overcome. (less)

Once I'd read the authors reasons for becoming more independent in living a life of true freedom, I was compelled to look deeper into my own life.
I didn't like what I found.
Most of my family (wife, older children who own Nooks) now have a copy of this book and we're reading it together. Changes for the better have already occurred in the way we shop, the way we eat and what we have deemed "needs." Each step we take has made us stronger and fear the reeling and cancerous decay/programming of society less and less.
This is not an easy process, mind you...but when you come to the point that knowing the truth is more important than anything else--even if it hurts, this book becomes a Godsend.
If you're serious about changing your life for the better and do not fear a challenge, I suggest you get a copy of this book. If you have a measure of intelligence in you, it will more than likely change your life.
At the least, it'll wake you up.
Mr. Bunker, I appreciate your hard work and wish you the very best in all your endeavors. (less)

I had a chance to attended one of his writing workshops, so I jumped at the chance to read this. In fact, I bought copies for my wife and two daughters, who all love writing themselves.
The information David shares is critical...if you want to connect with your readers. His in-depth analysis of Tolkien and TLOTR was brilliant! I was able to identify some of my own attempts to create resonance unconsciously...and personally believe it helped me give greater life to my own stories.
Thank you David.
I highly recommend this book to any and all writers.
So, you ask...Why only 4 stars?
Well, I bought the book for myself, but I own a Nook. This may have been formatted perfect for the Kindle, but it was very rough to read on my own eReader. So I deduct that last star for the formatting, that's all.
Perfect information with less than perfect delivery for Nook owners. STILL worth every penny.(less)

I didn't venture out to find trouble, nor did I pick fights. I was more like the mousey kid you see in movies that attracts the bullies. Thus, I got hurt...a lot.
But I survived.
What I learned over time, was that the way I thought, the way I believed, not my physical abilities, made the biggest difference. Not that being fit, or strong, or properly trained isn't important--it's critical, but having the right mental attitude and knowledge alone can save your life. That's not a guess on my part, but personal testimony.
Reading "How To Protect Yourself By Developing A Fighter's Mind Set" is a great tool for the survival toolbox! I particularly appreciated the personal stories Alain shared, to show application, while providing a serious, no BS list for self-assessment. Being aware of yourself, and being HONEST about that awareness has saved my life more than once.
This book provides a fantastic foundation for making some critical choices NOW...so you don't have to later. Mr. Burrese has my utmost respect for bringing up the "cost" of having to harm another human being. This is rarely discussed in detail and again, an aspect I can attest to.
I highly recommend this material to those who want to take their safety and the safety of their loved ones seriously. (less)

The focus on "factions" is intriguing. It's what pulled me along. I also loved the progress and character development of Tris and Four...you quickly develop a relationship with each of them. I found myself experiencing similar feelings of anger and frustration in this book as I did reading the Hunger Games series. I don't feel this story IS the same, but I did feel the same gambit of emotions.
In the end, I felt more should have happened.
Not complaining, just saying it could have had more "OOMF!" The tension between the factions was an underlying theme--so I wanted to see more conflicts between the leaders and citizens. I was also hoping for more of a taste of the other factions. It felt like this was a prelude to a bigger story--which I'm hoping for.
I will, however, move onto the next novel in this series without hesitation...at this point, I just hope someone puts a bullet in Peter's brainpan.
Four stars, not five, because of the lack of ultimate "OOMF!" Still highly recommend this story. Engaging and intriguing. (less)
