These children or more like teen, have been contaminated but didn't ask for this mutation. Some are seen as monsters and some are truly are. This academy or school isn't a peaceful place and many dangers awaited the new students.
Donna who's always right (I loved that ability) is sent to Lejeune Academy where nothing seems to fit, to be safe or be right.
I wasn't expecting anything specific from this title, this isn't really my kind of read, but honestly The Executioner at the Institute for Contaminated Children kept my attention from the beginning and I was surprise to even form a connection with the heroine Donna. She's the perfect representation of an intelligent teen from our days. She's smart, cute, charming and the way she care for others is stunning.
The other characters are also intriguing: Eva have the most unlikely ability, you would never guess what it is! And Dan's power is almost as perfidious as uncanny.
Threat is always looming in the dark and at every corner, which was the thing that kept me reading. The Executioner and what he can do (what is purpose is!) hovers over the heads of the contaminated teens, even during the special events.
Surprising ending, I didn't saw this one coming until the epilogue, which is great since I can decipher almost any ending. (My ability)
Overall, this story was quite entertaining and easy to read. Filled with quick but steady chapters, I found myself at the end of the book after a few hours. I recommend this title to ever YA Paranormal lovers who really wants to read something different. ...more
Black Ice is one of the first YA suspense/thriller/horror and a bit of romance book I read and I wasn't disappointed at all! If you like this kind ofBlack Ice is one of the first YA suspense/thriller/horror and a bit of romance book I read and I wasn't disappointed at all! If you like this kind of stories; where the victim fall in love with his captor/ravisher (the Stockholm Syndrome) as I do, you might found your perfect YA companion with Black Ice.
At first, I didn't know if I would love this title, the first chapter is quite creepy, but still enticing (not in the wrong way, believe me). The author had my attention from this point and I was eager to learn/know/discover the rest of Black Ice. I didn't know how Becca Fitzpatrick would make this one work, but what she managed to create and gives, has worked for me.
The tension is always present, even before the kidnapping or the discovery of killed girls appear. The author knows how to put the readers on the edge by trapping our characters on the mountain in a snowstorm where everything will fall apart.
Friends, best-friends, boyfriends, ex, killer and psychopath are mingled together but the reader doesn't really know who is who. This aspect adds a lot to the plot and the author played with it throughout the story, giving more edge to it.
Britt is a great and brainy female character. Yes she have her ''stupid'' moment, but she's still a teenager and didn't really experienced real life trouble, horror and backpacking trip on a mountain! I gave her some credit for her calmness in this head over heel situation she got into with Korbie. They both took bad and good decisions, but Korbie have no self-preservation instinct!
Korbie is one of the worst female best-friend characters I ever read about and her personality is even worst. I can't believe she was Britt friend. When you have a friend like Korbie you don't need enemy, or in this case, psychopathic killer at your side!
Mason is a strange character, but one I loved to read about. I knew he had a purpose in this book; one more honorable than just to be the cute guy of this book, but his temper is out of the cage! One minute he seems to incarnate the cute guy next door that every teenage girl would fall in love with in high school and the next one, he's acting like a psycho-killer on the edge.
I could have predicted the ending of this book; I was hoping it would end this way. I don't think I would have loved if it would have ended another way but I would have been more surprised/flabbergasted if it had ended like it should have been in real life!
Overall, I'm really surprised to have loved this title this much and this is why I recommend it to every YA lover who's looking for something different to read. If you love the author Becca Fitzpatrick, you'll discover a scary and new side of her in Black Ice. ...more

Usually I wouldn't OK, First of all, I want to mention that I'm posting this review because I was taking part of a blog tour for Stand of Redemption. Usually I wouldn't have post a review under 3 stars but for the tour I didn't have the choice. However, even if I didn't like this book, the things I didn't appreciate are from my personal POV and I don't want to discourage any future reader. That being said, here is what I thought.
*Watch out for spoilers*
I had a lot of expectation for this title, when I saw the book cover I literally felt in love with it. I read the blurb and I knew this book could be a blast. However, after a few chapters, I realise that this title didn't meet my expectations and was even far from it. I kept reading because I thought it would get better, but one revelation after another and I get lost in the nonsense of the storyline.
The major turn on of this title was Nicholas and Ria's behaviour toward each other; everything in the blurb reunites the things that I crave in a good New Adult/Contemporary Romance. The guy is a skilled fighter who loves the attention he got from the women and the heroine is everything he need but can't have because she's so special and different.
The first thing I found weird was the fact that Nicholas had something to do about why Ria got fired, to learn later that it was Nicholas's father fault!?!
We learn later that Ria's family isn't traditional and some of them have worked for the Cartel, which, also Nicholas, Zane and other members from the fight club have or had join in moment of their life.
Emiliano, the leader of the Cartel have kidnapped Ria's mother and blackmail her to work for him. When Nicholas found this out, he will offer his hard earned money and a talent has a fighter for Ria and her mother freedom.
This could all have worked if I didn't learn that Nicholas and Zane are responsible for Ria's brothers death. I thing I really lost my interest at that moment. I found it hard to believe that the heroine can fall in love with someone like Nicholas mainly after this revelation.
I didn't found myself attracted to Nicholas or even to Ria. I didn't connect with the heroine and after all the bad shit that happened to her I was more annoyed then sympathetic to her cause.
Overall, I just think this book wasn't my cup of tea. I didn't read the first book, so maybe it has something to do with why I didn't like it....more

All the shivers I had whiAs crazy that must sound, Rampant was the creepiest and the sexiest sequel I could have read for Torrent. The thrill I felt. All the shivers I had while reading this title was stimulating and refreshing. Gemma James knows how to come up with a good Dark Romance story and get you out of your comfort zone while asking yourself why you are both excited and attracted to it.
Dark Romance isn't for everyone and I have to admit that after reading these two titles from this series and liked it so much, I'm kind of wondering if I have some issues to deal with!
Gemma James is able to turn stories like the Condemned series into a dark, thrilling, sexual fairy tale that makes you think that everything is fine and ok. After a few line, the reader will fall in love with the subtle nuance between the proper love and a sexual relation between the master and the submissive. James is a talented author who will make you wanton and wish you had a Rafe in your bed tonight.
Rampant is darker than Torrent. The reader will discover the true side of Alex and Zach awful relationship. Abusive and tormented, Zach will force himself on Alex, trying to regain her love. But Alex isn't able to play this game anymore. While Rafe isn't aware of Alex and Zach situation, the reader will discover the softer side of Rafe ''The Choker'' Mason.
Even if there's nothing pretty in pink in this title, the whole story itself is kind of beautiful in a crazy way. Compassion, love, forgiveness and sexual abandon are part of this mad series.
I was also greedy to read something with more substance about Zach. In Torrent, Zach was a shadowed character. Still, Zach is an important piece of this story and his place in the second book was welcomed. In Rampant, we finally realise the extension of Zach action. He's behaviour isn't restrained and he unleash his rage, frustration, lust and sexual hunger on the devastated Alex. After a taste of pure bliss with Rafe, Alex is now under Zach control. Psychologically disturbed by Rafe death, Alex is at Zach mercy and she will sink into a cruel darkness.
Overall, this series is getting better after each book, I'm wondering what Gemma James have in store for the next title. Alex and Rafe are meant to be together, but at what price?
Looking for a romantic story with an unsettling, obscure and darker side? You might be ready for James newest series! If you like the Kitty Thomas kind of read (without the paranormal aspect), or loved The Devil's Kiss series from James,Torrent and Rampant are a must read! Not for sensitive pretty in pink princess!...more
Gemma James has done it again! I don't even know where to star! Torrent is messed up, twisted and so sexy; I couldn't put the book down! First of all,Gemma James has done it again! I don't even know where to star! Torrent is messed up, twisted and so sexy; I couldn't put the book down! First of all, I'm so impressed with James' storyline. When I read the blurb I thought; wow this one will be a blast! Gemma James didn't disappoint me at all!
I have to say that lately, I've been reading a lot of smooth and cute romance. Now with Gemma James latest title Torrent, there's nothing cute, nothing sweet. Every thing is about how Rafe can satisfy his pure and raw sexual needs and also his vengeance.
Don't get me wrong, some scene were a bit twisted, but still in Gemma James style (which I love) and since the whole storyline and world of Torrent is pretty harsh and dark, I wouldn't like it too soft and fluffy either. This isn't a romance story and that's what I love about Torrent.
Alex has a weird and unhealthy relation with her step-brother Zach. Alex thinks she isn't normal because she react sexually to him even if she knows it isn't right. Zach in return thinks that Alex belongs to him and no one can lay an eye on her without retaliation. This brought Rafe into prison on a false rape accusation. After eight years, Rafe has done his time and now he's out... And he's coming for Alex, the one who locked him up.
I loved to read about Rafe hunger and frustration toward Alex, but also how Alex reacted to his presence and punishments. They both needed each other to satisfy their extreme and intense sexual needs. After Alex meets some rash punishments from Rafe, I'm all hot... I need a cold shower after these gripping chapters!
The course of this story is progressive and the pace is still fast. There is no downtime and the appearance of Nikki, Jax and Zach made the reading even more agonizing and captivating. The darkest scenes are pretty well described, as Gemma James always does and I could feel it in my bones when Alex was lost in the dark and elsewhere...
Finally, the only thing I can add is that I'm dying to read the sequel. Gemma James leaves the reader to the brink with a cliffhanger ending. Not cool...
I totally recommend Torrent to Dark Romance/ light BDSM lovers. If you've read and loved The Devil's Kiss series, Condemned should be on your TBR list!!!...more
Lori Foster's latest release was a blast! I read this one in two days because I wasn't able to put it down! I was eager to read about Cannon and YvettLori Foster's latest release was a blast! I read this one in two days because I wasn't able to put it down! I was eager to read about Cannon and Yvette story since I read Dash of Peril (Love Undercover #4).
Great introduction, three years after the end of Dash of Peril, Cannon and Yvette are summoned at the reading of the will of Yvette's grandfather Tipton. Tipton passed away and gives everything he own to Yvette and... Cannon!
The romance is at is best in this new series! Cannon is head over heel toward Yvette and in return, Yvette doesn't want to live on false dream and hopeless love. Three years ago Cannon wasn't ready (or didn't want to be ready) for Yvette so he let her go, but now, the only woman he really wants doesn't return the feeling.
Yvette got it rough in the past. She tries to live like a normal person, but as soon as she came back in town, her past hit her hard and harder since Cannon will have to share everything she own fifty/fifty.
Tension and electrifying are probably the two words that sum up this exciting book! We can feel the tension that Yvette return is causing and another kind of tension between Cannon and Yvette!
To my greatest pleasure, this book wasn't all about Cannon chasing, seducing and/or trying to convincing Yvette that they belong together. We meet some interesting friends from Cannon's entourage. Armie is Cannon best-friend and I have a feeling we will read about him in the sequel! Everything is hilarious when Armie's around. Everything he does or say will bring a smile to your lips and add some steam to your fantasies!
We also meet Yvette's ex freak/stalker/fucked up boyfriend Heat and this character not only add a lot of tension and darkness, but also bring our two lovebirds on the next level, an intense level! Some of our favorite characters from past Love Undercover novels make some appearance, so we still have/feel a connection to them.
Overall, this new series is thrilling and entertaining! Cannon is one of my favorite characters from the previous series and he's still in my heart in this one! Can't wait to read the sequel of No Limits! Once again Lori Foster had created a romantic universe with powerful characters and luscious scenes!

After her mother's death, Allie became the second parent and took over her family. Taken with medical debt and without work, Allie's father loses everything, including the family home.
Allie went ahead and requests a payment extension the rich Trevor Blake, who now owns the family home and the Campbell Family future. Mr. Blake isn't shaken by Allie's problem and sad story and dismisses her. As a last resort, Allie offers her body and time in exchange of her home and family debts. Intrigued, Trevor Blake agrees, but neither ones knows what they are getting into.
Allie, the poor and helpless girl is lost in this new world full of opportunity and wealth. She does not seem to conceive the reality of this contract. Trevor Blake pays for bodily and sexual services, but Allie is constantly frustrated and outraged to be perceived as a sex object, a mistress, a whore. Cause a woman who gets paid for sex is by definition a prostitute. No !?!
Although the story is predictable from beginning to end, I liked the salty exchanges between Trevor and Allie. Their emotional differences comes quickly and catch them up when Trevor's parents moves in and Allie's family problems are constantly adding and stopping Trevor to get what he wants and paying for.
For cons, I quickly got tired of the Allie childish temper. She always complains about her situation with Trevor (which she's solely responsible for), the lack of support from her own family (which is not at all aware of her shenanigans) and the fact that Trevor his seeing her at times as a woman he loves and then as his fuck toy. Get over it girl, you're the one who was ask asking for it at the first place!
Trevor Blake is a rich and powerful man. His British ways and his arrogance make him untouchable. By cons, even if he will not admit it, he falls passionately in love with the outrageous Allie and let her do anything, anytime. I personally believe he should have been a little firmer and strict with Allie on some points. In addition, Trevor didn't have a very happy childhood with his parents (always absent). Family, marriage and trust are not part of his desires. He refuses all pleasure arising from these categories.
This book contains a lot of action connected to the external appearance of the couple Allie / Trevor, giving a deeper dimension to the book than just a sexual encounter between these two. The moral of the book: Money doesn't buy everything, especially not love and you have to fight for those you love. This one was fun to read, very light and entertaining story. Looking forward to find out who are the next Beauty and the next Brit!...more

Vail immediately caught my attention in this first volume and the fact that he's under the grip of a dark witch rekindled my interest in this character through the volumes of this series.
If you've made the jump and tried to read this new series written by the talented Felicity Heaton, you and I know how the main characters in these stories are intense, ready for anything and especially endearing. I love the fact that Prince Loren and Prince Vail are elves and they are much like vampires on several points.
Rosalind is a strong woman, but I thought she was the least confident female character among our heroines. I found her fears and vulnerability toward her fate very touching and I felt a stronger connection to her. Rosalind is a white witch, but the mere fact of being a witch will put her life in danger in Vail's presence.
Vail really surprised me, I expected to see a man destroyed and annihilated by Kordula. Vail is tormented by his past and nothing seems to get him out of his torpor. The way toward the light and freedom is far away and hard to take; Rosalind will do anything to help, but all hope seems lost.
Even at the end of this book, Vail is not fully saved and only time and Rosalind's love will overcome this turmoil. Vail is so deeply hurt that even if Rosalind is his fated mate, she can't (and sometimes won't) easily try to reach him, relieve him and even heal him.
I like the fact that Felicity Heaton showed us that sometimes love is not everything, you have to devote yourself and learn to live with the past, your mistakes and that love can conquer everything with time.
Vail makes me think a lot Zsadist in the BDB series by J.R. Ward!
We also meet Fenix, a succubus touched by a curse that reaches his fated mate. I was interested in reading more about it and I hope to see him in future books!
Tempted by a Rogue Prince is probably my favorite of this series and I recommend the whole series to all fans of paranormal romance that loves paranormal elements and supernatural creatures! ...more
I must confess: I love this kind of book, this story(many times written and rewritten) doesn’t seem to bother me in the least. By cons, if the heroinI must confess: I love this kind of book, this story(many times written and rewritten) doesn’t seem to bother me in the least. By cons, if the heroin uses ill will or is simply too naive, I will loose interest quickly. It’s not the case in this book and on the contrary Mary Wine is able to present us a strong and very spontaneous woman in the character of Nareen. Despite her troubled family past and their shenanigans, Nareen only wants to be free and make her own choice: which one to choose has her husband and maybe even stayed single.
Once Saer MacLeod laid eyes on the beautiful Nareen (in the previous book), he doesn’t want anyone else in his life and especially in bed. Nareen’s temper and refusal toward Saer only ignite his passion and see it as a challenge he can’t deny. Saer is the perfect representation of the wild Highlander who had a difficult childhood to do with the fact that he was bastard born. Now as a Laird, he inherited a wild side, but also a lot of compassion because he knows hunger, shame and poverty. Lots of action and sexy scenes are present in The Highlander’s Bride Trouble.
The end of this book arrives abruptly, my only complaint is that the book is really devoted to the conquest of Nareen by Saer. When the adventure ends, there is a stupid and kind of useless fight that seems to seal the fate of our two lovebirds. Of course, all ends well, happy ending. I think the author left an open ending, a back door exit to write the sequel and get everything coherent in the Sutherlands #5!
Overall, this title was a great read, I fell in love with Saer’s brutality and possessiveness and I felt a strong connection toward Nareen. The Sutherlands series is a must read if you love handsome Highlanders, heroines with spirit and of course Historical Romance!...more
