It was funny, like I was constantly laughing funny. The main character Kennedy (which btw is a great name which I gave my own daughter and I don't have a fascination with the former first family to have chosen it either.) has these crazy parents, including a Dad who wanted a boy, didn't get one and so decided to make his daughter into one and a Mom who can't cook or knit and made me think of the red headed mom in that old 70s and 80s show with the white haired guy that practically lived in his recliner. She's just completely clueless. Her 80 year old grandpa is a drunk who drives around on a lawn mower. Her family definitely qualifies as dysfunctional, but it a funny, harmless sort of way. Because of her upbringing she has no idea how to deal with real feelings so when she falls in love with her roommate she just hides it behind quips and playfulness and assumes he couldn't feel the same way as she does. When his brother comes to town and shows an interest in her it quickly becomes clear that not only does he has his own sort of dysfunctional family and not the funny kind, but similar feelings of attraction that he doesn't know how to act on. What follows is a strange mix of comedy and tragedy as they figure out how to deal with each other.
Overall it was a really enjoyable story but one of the things I didn't like is how Graham often came across as sort of parental toward Kennedy like he couldn't decide if he wanted to be her father or her lover which was kind of creepy. And the way it's mentioned multiple times that she's a virgin in the story like it's this huge deal to her and then when she's no longer one she mentions it after the fact as it if wasn't a big deal at all, that sort of seemed a little contradictory to me. Also Kennedy was so naive at points, which was funny yes, but at some points could be annoying so I think I might have enjoyed this more in a third person voice just for the occasional chance to step out of her head.
Anyway the book is definitely an interesting read chocked full off drama and hilarity that keeps you turning pages from beginning to end....more

While sex is a big focus there aren't any actual sex scenes in the novel. It was a decent story but some parts of it felt rushed, the reveal was kind of downplayed and for me it focused too much on flashbacks and not enough on what's happening in the moment. I like a fast paced action filled plot and this didn't really fit the bill, it doesn't have a lot of plot beyond the lead character going to dance class and dealing with her emotional issues. It wasn't a bad story, but wasn't really my thing either. ...more
