I gave it 3 stars because I just couldn't get the hang of the stories. Maybe I wasn't your typical teenager. There were shorter and longer stories, some of them sent an important message but other ones were rather without sense. I just couldn't connect with the characters and their situations and get a good understanding of their emotions.
Indeed, during adolescence years there are mixed feelings, a lot of fights and embarrassing events.
Maybe if I would have read it a couple of years ago then I would have interpreted it differently. ...more

Bang! The word that describes Atlanta Burns. Her mother's boyfriend wanted to mess around with her and she didn't allow it and wanted to teach him a lesson, which he would remember for his entire life. After this experience she doesn't take anything lightly and hates bullies and people, who believe have the power and take it down the bad way.
In the first part of the story Atlanta fights for her new friends Shane and Chris. Both of them are bullied because they don't fit in the standards of the society. Chris is gay and of course there had to be a gang of "bad ass" kids, who want to teach him the right way. Well, Atlanta doesn't accept it. She get's attached to her new friends, but she managed to get into a much bigger situation. After she teaches those bullies a lesson she finds Chris has committed suicide. That's when the action begins.
Atlanta get's involved in dog fights, she get's to rescue a dog who wasn't meant for that kind of life and manages to make a great change, but with a lot of work and sacrifices.
This book was pretty hard for me. The subject is delicate yet though. There are many horrible scenes, as in hard to imagine how some people can do such things. Sadly, these situations really do exist and people do suffer from just being themselves.
A kick ass heroine, who wants to not only defend herself but her beloved ones and shows how one little girl with a shotgun can do a lot of things. ...more

Well, that was a different and weird approach. I don't know how to feel exactly. Let's start with the art style, because it's the first thing you observe. The way the characters were drawn wasn't really that good, it's like a rushed manga and kept it childish. The only scene that really impressed me, from the art point of view, was when it was a battle between the good and bad spirits. Otherwise, I wasn't amazed by it. The story was really weird. I mean I understand it approached the Japanese mythology and talked about fishes but I just couldn't really comprehend how we got from fishes to a battle between spirits in the end. The world that was created to sustain the story was also weird. The main character got to meet the siblings in a so called cafe but afterwards you can never see clients or some cups of coffee. The main character meets the sister in the upper floor where she made bracelets out of power stones. It was a lot of action and it is hard to believe how quickly the siblings involved the main character in their business and how he accepted only for the money. Also, he was never shocked or really amazed by what was happening around him, he was just confused. I couldn't say I would recommend this manga, but who is interested and wants to give it a try should do it. Maybe they have other opinions....more

Malorie Blackman reunites in this book stories about different types of love from various authors. Everybody sees this strong feeling from a different point of view and represents it differently. Each character goes through their own adventure and has their of demons and fears. After reading a couple of other reviews I saw that some readers really enjoyed the book and others were just disappointed. I see this book as an opportunity to see fragments from different books and different writing styles and when you finish this compilation you may want to pick up the book to continue reading about the respectively love story. Most of the stories I didn't quite enjoy or maybe they just weren't for me and that's why I give this book 3.5 stars. I will give my opinion on some of the stories, which stood out for me and I would like to pick up the book to continue it.
Humming through my fingers Malorie Blackman
I just loved how Malorie Blackman told the tale of the girl with no eyesight. At the beginning, I was confused, but afterwards as Amber and Ethan go on their "adventure" in the park you can see the world from a new perspective. It is a shy, funny yet sad story. Amber's condition doesn't mean she cannot have fun or go out with guys, but at the same time she dismisses quickly the ones, who make fun of her.
If I stay Gayle Forman
I have seen the movie, but haven't read the book and after reading the passage from this compilation I don't think it's for me. I find it a bit too over-hyped. The way the story is told it seems too fast forward and there are two main views : Mia's life before she had the accident and during her comatose. The idea is good, I just couldn't connect with the characters and really get into the story. Maybe because I am not in that way involved with music or I just can't understand how to feel about the events that were happening. It is a teenager love, who has to overcome the differences between social positions and the current medical issue.
You against me Jenny Downham
I have had the book on my bookshelf for quite some time and it was a time that many reviewers raved about it, but I just wasn't in the mood for picking it up. I am glad that I have got the chance to read a preview and see if I would like the book. And here I am : wanting to read "You against me", because why not add another book to my TBR list? It is true that you cannot form a bond with the characters from each story, but you are given the possibility to view multiple types of love and choose what suits you.
Noughts and Crosses Malorie Blackman
An impossible love. Callum and Selphy aren't allowed to be together, because they come from different social environments. Lately, some Youtubers and reviewers were saying only good things about this book, but I didn't got the chance to buy it... as all the other books I want and cannot get my hands on... yet! For their ages Callum and Selphy really think through their whole situation and how they could change their lives and to not become like the society wants to. Yet another sad story about two persons who are not allowed to be in love... I don't know about you guys but I just don't get tired of these sort of books. I mean, every love story, although it has almost the same things such as utopian situations and you are saying that THAT thing could never happen, has it's uniqueness. At least, that's how I see it.
Echo Boy Matt Haig
I am starting to get annoyed. When you begin to read a new story it's really hard to get the hang of everything and in no time you find yourself at the end of this chapter and you're like really into it and just want to go on and on... Aaaaand it stops. Audrey is a human being and Daniel is an Echo, a machine. He wants to protect her from her evil uncle and manages it, because he is special. Apparently, they already had a bond. Audrey's uncle makes some changes on Daniel to make him like all the other Echos. Now Audrey is left with struggling to get Daniel back and save themselves from the bad guys.
Gentlewoman Laura Dockrill
It was a rather peculiar story and caught me off-guard and, honestly, I don't know how to approach the subject. I am open-minded and accept new ideas easily, but Danni's story was kind of hard to get into. It's strictly my opinion and I don't claim it isn't a great book, it just wasn't for me.
Heroic Phil Earle
Siblings love is one of the most purest love in my opinion. Cam and Tommo are brother and sister. Tommo went to war and Cam, even though she is a strong girl, cannot stop looking at the news to see if her brother is mentioned. The reader can experience the feelings a person has when he/she can't do anything to help or to protect his beloved one.
The Unicorn James Dawson
I never knew what I will get myself into. When I first read the title of this story I just didn't expect what happened next. Just as a side note : I am a big fan of horses soooo when I saw "The Unicorn" I was like "Oh, this will be a cute story involving unicorns!". Well... no. It was something better! The Unicorn is about a love story between to men, which forms on a ship where they were recruited as sailors for war. When Reg met Frankie there were sparks. But as every love story not everything is beautiful forever... It was a touching story, described perfectly and in just a couple of pages the writer managed to make me hope for those two and just giggle like a little goofy girl I am.
Forbidden Tabitha Suzuma
Every reader has a book, which touches his soul and stays there. I know many of you will think : "Why would you like so much a book about incest?". I am an open-minded person and I don not like to judge things before I research a little bit. I took Lochan's and Maya's love story as an impossible one, not as an taboo subject. The writing style, their feelings and the real struggle in their life makes everything so sad and yet... fascinatingly charming. This is no happy ending story. It's real life and they don't think only about themselves, but also about their siblings and how their relationship could affect them as a family. I regret that I didn't write a review right after I finished the book but I was during exams and just wasn't in the mood. I, honestly, recommend you should give it a try. It will leave you heartbroken and maybe with a new perspective.
Stories I didn't quite enjoy or just weren't my kind of stories were 13 little blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson, Junk by Melvin Burgess, Tumbling by Susie Day and Rani and Sukh by Bali Rali. To conclude, I would recommend this book for those who are in a search of reading a variety of love stories and maybe they don't know what book to choose to read later. Love Hurts is a compilation of stories which can bring you on the verge of tears or just make you giggle while reading. ...more

Magic is a pretty used subject in books and you've probably read a variety of perspectives. Each author has it's own vision. A Darker Shade of Magic is the first book I read from V.E. Schwab, but I heard a lot of reviewers saying only good things about Vicious and about this book and that they cannot wait for it to be released. So, out of pure curiosity I told myself to give it a try. And as always, I have found a book that will have a place in my heart. I needed only the first couple of pages and I already loved Kell. The way he handles all the characters he comes in contact with and his passion for small yet significant objects and everything. I don't know why I have such a crush on him. He has a special relationship with Rhy and I am curious to see how he and Lila will evolve.
You have four places : Red London, White London, Grey London and Black London. This was also enough for me. I am a big fan of England. I would move there if I could...
Then you have Lila. A young girl, who searches for an adventure (who doesn't?) and wants to become a pirate. Where can you find such a mix?
Yes, I will be honest. There are some hard scene to get through, which involve a lot of blood and some harsh actions, but that's part of the story.
The book will get your fully attention and you will be transported to all of those London's and in Kell's and Lila's adventure.

She is described as a rich girl with a complicated family. Her friends and family want to figure out who is responsible. Elle wakes up and finds herself in a place named The Garden where she meets Bobby. From this place she can see the real world and everybody else. She can also enter the bodies of persons who are about to go into the afterlife. Dane's story is also presented, how his childhood was and how he ended up where he was. As the story goes on, the mystery gets more complicated as more and more characters are becoming the possible killer. The art style is beautiful with enough details, not making the page look crammed. The coloring is amazing with all the effects : Bobby's presentation was spectacular! Also, the cliffhanger at the end just makes you wanna continue reading the series....more

I was intrigued from the beginning, I was always a fan of books with war as theme and also the idea that a girl wants to join the Military really made me curious. The first part of the book was kind of slow for me. I actually wanted to give up on the book, but I kept on reading.
I don't know how to really feel about the relationship between Aris and Calix. I mean, at the beginning it was that sort of cute and romantic love story, but the way he acted when he was sent in the Military and when he got to see Aris after a long time seemed so simple and cold, nothing showed that they really had something special. I felt more emotions between Aris and Major Vidar. At least that's how I see it.
Also, the things I loved most about this book were the action-packed scenes and when Aris flew. My wish is also that maybe someday I could fly and I haven't read many books on flying. Yes, I read books about angels and so on, but from this point of view it makes you think that in the near future we can get wing-jets and fly away.
The side-story with Ward Vadim and Ward Nekos was also kind of a setback for me, I was more interested in Aris's story, as I got more into the book I understood their involvement. And that plot twist, well maybe not a plot twist, but after we find out who Major Vidar really is... that's when the action really kicks in and Aris's world will change.
The world in which Aris lived wasn't that much described, but that wasn't a problem for me. The idea of the Diatous Veil was a bit hard to get used to. I had a lot of questions about it and although Aris was stressed, because she wasn't allowed to be touched in order for her disguise not to be discovered, she handled pretty well everything she went through. It was sad that after she was discovered and they saw that she wasn't Aristos, she practically lost herself.
I cannot wait to see what happens next and how relationships develop and if we will meet some characters again and see what they have done....more

I will give this a 3.75 stars.
This book approaches a subject, which is relatively new to me : Mermaids. The story revolves around the Mermaids or Nixen, how the inhabitants of Skylge call them, and how they take away people who suffer of Sadness and hear their songs. The main character, Enna, is a Skylger girl described as a normal girl, who lost her mother to the Nixen and now lives with her brother and father. She falls in love with a Current boy named Royce. The relationship between a Skylger and a Current is forbidden and they need to be careful to not be seen together. In the same time, Enna finds out the secret of her brother and her father and she is upset because she is seen as weak and as a rebel. It was a little bit hard to get into the book, also I had a problem with the writing : you have to get used to new words, but at the same time I was pulled out of the Skylge world when I read words from jargon. I was creating in my mind a peaceful and traditional world and all of a sudden there is a dialog, which from my point of view shouldn't be there. Otherwise, it was a new kind of book for me and I cannot wait to read the second one to find out how everything will develop....more

Some time ago I couldn't really understand that "fan-girling" thing, that a book could give you such emotions and just read on and on and you're like... "Wow, ok, what's next?" in a good way. Don't get me wrong, I read some books that were amazing and left me really thinking afterwards. But I don't know... this book kinda hit me in the soft spot.
First of all, I could find myself in the story somehow... not entirely, but some parts I could really understand how the main character felt. I won't give any spoilers because I think the best thing to do is to read it without knowing anything about the book, just that it's an amazing read, in every possible way.
The writing style is funny, easy to go through and it's your average teenager vocabulary... I could say maybe a little too much teenager-like. I read it in two days and it was such a treat, I would detach myself from the real world and just smile or gape at what was happening. Anyway, I was in the story. At the beginning, though, there were a lot of new names to take in, but gradually I got to know the characters better and it was fine.
Every one of the character had something special, something you don't really see in our society, which manages to make all of the teenagers seek a model and copy it, not letting us being unique.
Moving on to the plot: well, that was one twisted plot. I mean, man, come on! Too many situations happened all of a sudden. If I was Mikayla, I would have been done for it. The whole story teaches you some valuable lessons in every part of your life: family, friends, lovers and everyone around you. I know everybody will say: "It's just a story. You couldn't possibly be that lucky to have a boy/girl, who will appear like that and rescue you." You never know, who will appear in your life. But the main idea is that you should appreciate what you have and give love to who deserves it and open your eyes and say no if your not ready. And if you say yes accept the consequences because it was your decision.
That ending! Actually those endings! Heartbreaking. I just wanted to hug every character. Even the last sentence leaves you in awe.
It was a sad/funny/romantic/and I can continue writing about it, but for now I am in stage in which I mourn that this story ended. I strongly recommend it but be warned it will stay in your heart and mind for a very long time. ...more

Just finished the book and all I can say it's just: Wow! I have no words. I mean, at the beginning I was a bit susceptible about the story, but as I dove more into the book I fell instantly in love with it. You can read it in just one day. It makes you curious what will happen next. As for the characters, well, I can say Ember is my type of a girl. She isn't whiney and wants to get better and she isn't a "damsel in distress". Caden could also be another perfect fictional male character on my favourites list. The way he acts and manages situations, it's just cool and funny. You just can't forget how they first met. The authors writing style is simple to get through, yet so intriguing. Just the plot itself is a new perspective and she managed to keep it full of action and add bits of romance and also humor. For me it was a perfect read.
Oh, and the end... no. It was a bit predictable, but I am suffering so much right now. I really fell for the couple and it can't (and will not, hopefully) end like this. I just can't wait to see what happens next. Just please let it be happy and joyful....more
