Brother Yun's story is one that inspired me, horrified me, challenged me and actually brought me to my knees in prayer. Besides the Holy scriptures only 1 other book has moved my soul for days at a time. (The Final Quest by Rick Joyner). His life is an example of what it means to have Jesus as your first love. It's also a fine example of what it means to stay true to the Master in the face of incredible pain, suffering, and loss. It's also a testimony of God's great faithfulness in the face of incredible odds. When we obey God to do what seems impossible and crazy, He does come through in amazing ways. Brother Yun is a saint among saints and a true giant in the faith. Worth the cost and time to read this one!(less)

I have heard the audio version of the book numerous times and found it to be excellent. But the written version is uber-excellent!
In the audio version Prof. Deere makes the case for the continuous view that God still speaks today and miracles still abound. They never really ended after the canonization of the Bible like so many claim in recent days. I think the fact that Mr. Deere used to be an ardent Cessationist makes his arguments even more effective.
In the written version, he expresses the same arguments in further detail but he also goes beyond such arguments to touch on the beliefs and fears that can trip us up in our walk with God and hinder our experiencing the vitality of the Christian life. From Bible Deism to "Charismatic witchcraft" to fears of being foolish or experiencing pain or even the fear of intimacy with God, Jack covers quite an array of spiritual snares meant to keep us from the living a Biblical Christianity.
But this book is more than just an argument for God speaking to us today and even doing supernatural things in our lives. It's a call to knowing Christ deeply, personally, and experiencing Him. And Mr. Deere calls us to the Living Christ in both a though provoking and inspirational way.
This book, like any good book on the topic of spirituality and faith, can take you to the place where you find yourself standing naked before the Living God who is real and is there wanting a real relationship with you. On the one hand, that is a glorious prospect. On the other a terrifying one. For some, it may awaken them to the realization that they may be hiding from God in quite a many religious activities and not even know it. For others, this book also has the potential to show them that possibly the Christian life they think they're living may, indeed, be anything but truly Christian. Others may come to see that they are only living a partial Christian faith having chosen only one half of what it means to really live the Christian life. And some will probably read this book and affirm its message, having lived the holistic Christian life it describes and promotes.
Regardless of wherever one finds oneself, this book is worth reading.(less)

David Murrow hits the bulls-eye as to why so many men avoid church and even Christianity itself. He graciously but directly points out how many women, often ignorantly, push their male family members and friends away from church and participating in the spiritual aspect of their (desired) relationship.
It's not a "beat up on women" book by any means but more of a "This is why your guy doesn't want anything to do with God or church. Here are some of the common mistakes women (and some men) make in their attempts to win the men in their lives to Christ and Christian living. And here's a better, more effective way to go about it."
If many churches would embrace the things Mr. Murrow puts forth in this book, not only would we see record breaking church growth among males I do believe revival would break out across this nation and the world. Yeah, it's that profound!
I found myself stirred and inspired as I read through this wonderful book. I don't know how many times I exclaimed, "That's so true! That's it!!" Easily a Five Star! Get it! You won't regret it! (less)

So many marriage and relationship books these days! If I could only recommend one to read it would be this one. Dr. Timothy Keller and his wife Kathy write on the subject from both experience and substantial research and counseling. Like so many of Keller's books, this one shares the characteristics his others hold. He not only addresses the subject matter in a precise, authoritative and gentle way but he also draws you closer to knowing God, seeing the idols of the culture, and seeing how the cross of Christ relates to the subject.
Wonderful look at the gigantic subject of marriage!
Should be required reading for all who are engaged, married or would consider marriage someday. (less)

Stirred my soul, challenged my mind, warmed my heart. A comparative look at the values of the protestant church during the medieval age verses the western world and protestant church in the modern age we find ourselves in. For all the technological advances and scientific breakthroughs we moderns enjoy, this book awakened my soul to see just how spiritually malnourished we are today.
I didn't agree with everything the authors put forth. I strongly disagreed with a few of their positions but the overall case they presented in this masterpiece was both inspirational and convicting, maybe even "life changing."
We, Christians, have much to learn from those who have journeyed before us and when we do we will find wisdom, joy and a fulfillment we didn't know we were lacking.

This is a must read for all Christians! If you chose to read it, you will find yourself feasting on a scrumptious spiritual banquet! Mr. Bailey brings out important details that most Christians and many Pastors are unaware of in the West and with such important details it not only adds beautiful color to the stories we've heard so often, but it will also sharpen our understanding of the message and life of Christ and the heart of God.
If I could afford it, I'd buy as many copies as possible to give to all my friends, pastors and missionaries I know and every serious seeker. It's THAT good! Just buy it and read it cover to cover! Don't be discouraged by the length of the book. It is written in an easy to understand format. Having said that I did find the introduction a bit dry but it does lay the necessary groundwork for understanding important interpretations of the texts cited throughout the book.
I especially enjoyed chapter 18 - The Woman in the House of Simon the Pharisee but it was all good.(less)

The Coming Wrath is a novel written by John K. Reed. It centers around the wife of Shem and her life during the 70 years or so before the flood and all the events leading up to the great flood. Although it is fiction, the story line is plausible and downright entertaining. I LOVED IT! It was fun to imagine with the author what Noah and his family might have been like and how they may have reacted to different trials they may have faced as they were building the ark. The messages within the book caused me to stop and reflect about my own motives, faith, views of God and life. It's my favorite novel to date and I would HIGHLY recommend getting a copy if you're in the mood for a good story. (less)
