Then there is also the gorgeous covers that call to any cover addict, basically making any of her books a double threat. For me Alice in Zombieland was a great start to this new series. However, Through the Zombie Glass took things a step further and though it was a bit more of a relationship rollercoaster, it was worth it. The added bonus that made it all worth it… Showalter created a second book that evolved and was not just a filler novel. No second book syndrome here my friends, just interesting developments.
Taking off where the previous novel ended, the plot does not take its time taking off. Alice is quite simply thrown into a mess of everything that you will think is not possible. There are more people added and twists thrown in for each of them, not to mention the freaking mess it makes of the Cole and Alice romance. I would love to dance around this and make it sound amazing but flat out guys this book is PACKED with tension in the relationship department… when it is there. Beyond that though there is a huge breakthrough in the zombie fighting world, or several of them I should say. Step by tortuous step the characters fight it through all of the bull and continuous twists to make it to the end.
Alice definitely seemed stronger in the last novel. Possibly less lost? I am truly unsure as to how I can properly describe it. Maybe just maybe it was the fact that she had lost so much the last time around and had so much drive. She seemed to be way too focused on the non-relationship, relationship that her and Cole were having. Well that and her little “problem” that she frequently either denied or just said she would figure it out soon. However, she did grow, she did accept her fate and the most important of it all: she figured out a HUGE secret. I wish I could even give you a hint because it kind of makes the entire b.s that goes on throughout the book more understandable and bearable but it took Alice forever to get there and she had to basically go through hell and back to get there.
Now I think Cole is someone that everyone either loves or loathes. He is bad boy and bad boyfriend in every form. However, I happen to melt every darn time I start reading about him. He seriously needs to start calming down and pulling his boxers out of his… You know what I mean right? The redeeming quality for him is that you know he cares or at least get a feeling that he does, even when he is making horrible decisions. He wants to keep Alice safe even when he is being unreasonable and has some serious responsibility when it comes to his team. What also rocks about him is that he remains consistent in whatever he is doing and it breaks my heart that he can not just listen to his heart every now and again. This book made me love him more despite everything he put Alice through and his stubborn ways because when it comes down to it he is just Cole.
Through the Zombie Glass is without a doubt a quick and highly addictive read. There are many twists and unforgettable moments that will leave you begging for more when the read comes to an end. It is not a total cliffhanger but it will leave you wishing you had the next book in your hands so that you can see how everything is going to fall into place this time. There has to be a certain amount to tension lifted with the recent revelations and I am seriously anticipating it. Gena Showalter has created a unique zombie story with unforgettable and addictive characters that will leave you begging for more. This is a must have for all zombie lovers and paranormal lovers alike. (less)
