Down Home Cowboy all kinds of delicious fun! A growly frazzled cowboy trying to raise a 16 year old and a bakery owner trying to reclaim her life. Both very much set against ever falling in love again but rocking an intense need to see each other nekkid. Mmhm.
Yall, these two were quite the mess of sexual tension, frustration, and a fear of anything 'romance'. Whew! They'd been pretty fucked over by life-- her with an abusive marriage, him with a wife walking out on him and their kid-- and were both dealing with a lot of baggage. Including a pissed-at-the-world sixteen year old. Cain's kid. Alison's newest employee at her bakery.
I liked Cain and Alison. And wanted to shake them. And thought they were perfect for each other when they could stop freaking out or growling at each other over things. Then I maybe wanted to shake em again. lol They had great chemistry and were pretty damn hot together. I didn't totally by their sudden jump to LOVE but I did see them making their way towards that point.
The pissed off teenager? Cain and his daughter. Holy heck. It was painful and heartbreaking and frustrating watching the two of them lash out and deal with their abandonment. It was hard to watch but seeing them finally deal with things was powerful. I might have even cried a little. Maybe.
I did have a couple little quibbles-- I really wanted the heroine to apologize for something-- and would have liked one more chapter at the end before things wrapped up, but, overall, Down Home Cowboy was everything I expect from Yates. Hot cowboys, characters that you can root for and and emotional journey that'll leave you breathless. Add in a bit of humor and steam and, yeah, a damn good time....more
Well that ended with me feeling pretty disappointed when I'd been woohoo! over a lot of the book. How do you have a hero with a pierced cock and a herWell that ended with me feeling pretty disappointed when I'd been woohoo! over a lot of the book. How do you have a hero with a pierced cock and a heroine with a piercing obsession and never mention the pierced cock in any of the sex scenes?! I don't think the heroine even knew he had one based off what was on the page. Man. Bummer! And then to talk about a nipple piercing during sex? #PiercedPeckerTease #CrushedPenisDreams #TheForgottenCock (if someone else read it and recalls that piercing during a sex scene let me know. I don't think I missed it and reread bits to make sure but who knows, if that's the case I take back everything above lol)
Other than that Kiss of the Irish was a hot little read. The heroine taking a trip to Ireland for a few months after a bad break up and stumbling on a hot tender who happens to also be her new landlord. Oh yes. Cian was sin walking. All Irish, tattooed and pierced (though obviously not the pierced cock he claimed). He was still very yummy. And Sarah was a fun heroine. Finding out who she was now that she was away from home and everyone's expectations. She's innocent and sweet and I enjoyed her reactions. They were real fun together. Had great chemistry and woo! the sexy bits were real hot though, again, no damn pierced cock appearances. *flails* I did have a bit of an issue with the ending and a big overreaction by the heroine over the hero doing something very sweet for her and things being a bit too rushed. That combined with the cock took this down in rating from a 4 to maybe a 3.5 though feeling like a 3 right now because I'm annoyed. I might round that up a bit, though, once I let it stew because I did love the setting and the characters. The pub that Cian owns and the vibe there was wonderful. His sister and their friend added a fun element and the way they all pulled Sarah into their world really was lovely. ...more
Yall know I'm a sucker for a cowboy. Add in that this is by Erin Knightley (one of my local ladies) and I was in! I'd been in a bit of a reading slump and The Return hit the spot.
The quick of it is that Mack was in a really bad rodeo accident and has ended up back home injured and broke and desperately needing his ex's help. Something she's not all that inclined to offer since he really fucked up good when they were teens-- I was NOT pleased with him, yall. Anywho. A bargain is made--she'll help him out with his problem-- losing his sponsor, her uncle-- if he'll help her get some connections in the rodeo world.
I had fun with Mac and Ashley for the most part. They have a nice spark between them even if it's full of snark and growls a lot of the time. Yeah, there are some serious hurt feelings to get past. And having to work so closely together to get her ready for competition and then travel...whew some petty and childish could slip out now and again. That was in turns really funny and really annoying. lol But I still liked them together and seeing them wear each other down and start up something new. It was a quickie and got me back reading so I really can't complain. And, Mack won me over in the end with some really sweet gestures that had me forgiving his stupid teenage self....more
