I was really surprised at how much I really enjoyed this book. It was faced paced, full of action and had a little romance thrown in.
I found this book to be well thought out and well written, there was not any needless information that did not help progress the storyline, it flowed nicely and kept me gripped from start to finish. I enjoyed the updated re-telling of Snow White and found it worked well with the setting the author created. The world created was stunning and I visualized it perfectly, it was the perfect setting for this tale.
All the characters worked well with each other and complimented each role that was played. I found the fact the information was only given when it was needed to progress the story and not all at once like some books that reveal everything in the first few chapters, and also only the main characters were delved into and the bit characters were given just enough to fit in with the situation.
Neve herself was a well written character that I liked from the start, she was a strong lead while not been too strong, freely admitting to her faults and insecurities.
I would have liked a little more steampunk influence as I found it a little lacking but not enough to deter from the the story and characters.
I really enjoyed reading this book and will read more....more

Alice loses her father and goes to live with some one she assumes his her uncle, she moves in to a house called the library which has a forbidden library attached. There she finds out that she is a reader and can enter prison books and portal books.
Another reader is after a book and alice finds it with some help from Ashes.
This book was just ace, I loved everything about. Alice was a likeable character and I liked that she was a fierce strong willed little girl who faced all the problems and creatures thrown at her.
I felt at times that I was there with Alice having these adventures.
My favourite character had to be Ashes, he was funny and I'm a cat person.
The story just flowed, it kept giving more and more. It had adventure, action and plenty of twists and turns
I'm really hoping there is another! This book is a must read for all ages!...more

Lily was a great character, damaged by her past growing up she hides behind opium and absinthe and a lover of lord Byron! Perfect lead character.
The story centers round lily been made to search for a sacred statue of the Goddess Ahrodite. Many people are after her as she is the only 1 who can find it.
The action just flowed in this book and never seemed to stop, lily always seemed to be in control of any situation she was thrown in.
I wasn't too keen on Sal sorry to say he seemed a bit mushy I prefered Lord Byron but that's just me.
I would have liked a little more of the other group chasing the statue maybe more confrontation with them, it seemed lily did everything without much interferance. But still I enjoyed the book and have the sequel ready to go.
Maybe a little more steampunky in the next one...more

I felt that the beginning was just chapter after chapter of not needed information. It did nothin to further the story and seemed to be irrelevant to the story as a whole.
David was a engaging character who goes from little boy to more or less a man during his adventure in the other realm.
I got the feeling that this was just another way of a boy dealing with a death then crossing from child to adult through a sort of fairy tale world, it worked well and the adventures he had had him becoming more grown up.
I would have liked a little more description of the other realm, it seemed brushes over at times.
The crooked man was quite the character and was a little scary, I did feel that the author wanted it to be scary but held back for some reason. It would have made a really good horror novel.
All in all it was a good book and I did enjoy listening to it. ...more

Straight away you are thrown in to the thick of the characters and what's happening. Cara Devon returns home to bury her father, she herself is surrounded by scandal due to her father. She soon captures the eyes of Nate and the race to find a serial killer who is after Nefertitis heart, a relic her father stole so he can be immortal, has her fathers priced relics hide dangerous secrets of there own. I really liked Cara, she was a strong character made stronger by what happened to her 14 year old self and in a way the envy of most girls seen as how Cara is free and not bound to society any more. She shows no fear, not even when faced with Nate better know has Viscount Nathaniel Lyons, he also does not live by rules of his station, basically he's a crime lord who seems to pull of pirate dress and every Lord wants there daughters to marry him but he sets his sights on Cara and I found the chasing he did for her made a change, Cara didn't just fall into his bed on the first meeting she made him chase and I liked that. The romance didn't get in the way of the killer and his obsession with Nefertitis heart. Fraser is a bit of an unknown, he's an enforcer and at first I thought another after Cara but didn't fit. Maybe the next book reveal more, he's too interested in Cara to not be up to something. My only problem was not enough steampunk in this book, at times it was like a mystery set in Victorian England not steampunk Victorian England. Bit more steampunk please. ...more

The first 17 chapters were dragging, it was like a minute by minute account of Lora's entire days in boredom. It started to pick up and for many chapters we had action and excitement then we got the woe is me when the truth was discovered. Why can't a main character just be happy with who and what they are for a change. The story itself was an ok story and could have worked if not for 17 chapters of nothing relevant to that story, I'm all for a bit of background on characters and a little peek has to what may be going on but this book had too much not needed info that it ruined what could have been a start to a great new series. Lora! I felt that the author didn't really like her, she was written in a way that kept you at more than arms length and not want you to relate to her. She was a very distant character. I would have liked a little more on the world the author created, I try to visualize the worlds of books but this is were a little more info was needed. I'm sorry to say that even though this book had its good points it had to many bad for me....more

I found it to be more of a flash book about most of the main characters and all the jumping back in time started to make my head spin and I found myself losing interast. When the read up said it was about Dracula rising and taking revenge more or less I expected action and chaos instead flash back book.
I started to find Jamie annoying in this book, unlike the first book were I liked his strong character in this one he just came across as been a whiny teenager who sulked if he didn't get his own way.
There were some nice surprises in the book and it would have been good to expand on them.
I will be reading the next one and hope that the action of the first book is brought back....more

I found this to be a really good read. It was full of action from the start to finish, it had humour, action and a bit of flirting thrown in. When I first started reading it I was a little confused has I thought I'd started reading the next book on the series has it jumped straight into what had happened to Bea for her to be in the situation she was in without really delving into it to give a better understanding but once I got past the first chapter it was none stop action. Not much was spoken about when it came to characters, no background was given only names and what there powers were. There was a bit said about some characters but not enough to build a picture. I thought the storyline was well written and easy to follow and the humour was just right without going over the top and ruining the story as was the flirting between Oliver and Bea it was well written without being too much and bording on tacky. I found the reading experience to be pleasant and different in a good way, I already have book 2 and will be reading that shortly. A really good read all round!...more

The characters were likeable but seemed a bit wooden at the start, i also found it a bit slow to start and would have liked a bit more depth on the drake character. i know that if your familier with the games then you already know what i thought the book could have done and just give a little more on Drake. the storyline was ace i loved the whole labyrinth idea but it could have had a bit more peril to it and explained a little more why the bad guys were protecting it. I felt the book could have been longer as to fit more in and make it not seem as rushed. Overall i enjoyed the book and will keep an eye out for more adventure books....more
