This is the second book I've read written by this author. I loved her writing style, although, this book had a couple of typos but it didn't ruin the pleasure of enjoying the novel. I'm really looking forward to finish the series. I want to know what happened to her and her sister.
The vampires in this novel was pretty much original. How they were turn was common, but how they live their life was what made them original. That was the main reason why I enjoyed it and the women in the novel were strong characters.
I give this novel a good solid four star :) ...more

It only lose a star bec there are certain parts in book that really drags on too long. It wasn't a quick read for me but I was able to enjoy the book. Also, the characters think too much in the book that bothered me a bit.
There was so much emotion in the book and the deaths shocked me completely while reading the book. I'm looking forward to continue the journey in the second book!

Man, thI found this book in Dublin, Ireland airport gift shop. The title and the book cover was what grabbed my attention as I checked out the blurb. Man, that had done it and caused me to purchase it right away. I didn't know about the author and his well-known (I think?) H.I.V.E. series before starting this book. After completing Earthfall in a sitting, which was a great way to make the time go quicker on a 7-hour flight from Dublin to Canada.
I loved pretty much everything about this book. It was a fast-paced action book. It reminded me of Falling Skies television show (I only saw part of first season, but enough to recognized the similarities.) and reminded me of a great series I'd completed few months ago: The Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner. It was pretty much a combination of both, which was a best way of describing the book.
The opening hooked me instantly. A boy was on a run for his life and nearly died. It made my heart beat quicker as I observed how close the boy survived. I was a bit annoyed when the author kept saying "the boy" over and over until the boy finally met another survivor and his named was mentioned. It was wonderful opening that's for sure. Throughout the book, I couldn't stop reading because I wanted to know what was happening. It had everything: questions were answered, character developmental, world-building (my favorite), and aliens descriptions. I was puzzled at the beginning, trying to figure out what was going on and thankfully my puzzled was not puzzled by the time I finished the book. I got to learn a quick biography of who the aliens were and what they wanted. I even got a chance to learn who the solider and why he remained underground without going out there for some actions. Why mentioned the surgery part in early stage of the book and sure enough, that question was answered later on. I had no problem with the book as far as I could think.
Character developments were amazing. I felt that I knew them all enough to be able to connected to each of them. Even the one who didn't make it or appeared in the book short time. Their death did make me feel. No one was really safe in the book so you wouldn't know who survived or wouldn't survived. Of all characters in the book, I think Rachel would be the right pick. It wasn't romance book but a hardcore action with plenty of sci-fi thrown in.
The world-building was wonderful. I REALLY want to see this book go to the screen so badly. I can see so much potentially of being one of wonderful sci-fi film. The world the author created was really scary. I couldn't imagine myself being there. I tried to picture myself as a deaf man in that world, would I've survived? I often wonder the result of people becoming brain-washed zombielike was based on audio? If so, would deaf people become like them? That was the only question that popped up in my head every once in a while during reading and after completing the book. It'd be cool to see how the author would handle that situation.
All in all, I'm just damn thrilled that there will be second book coming up and I will buy it in a heartbeat. The ending wasn't cliff-hanger, though. It ended well with a promising to second book. I'm all ready for another adventure to follow! ...more
