It's been a while since I wrote a review, but once in a while I read something that inspires me and so, I must write about"Love makes us such fools."
It's been a while since I wrote a review, but once in a while I read something that inspires me and so, I must write about it.
I pick up this book for two reasons:
1 - the cover, so beautiful and the feather so pretty and sad. 2 - The name. It has a melancholic quality to it that I could not resist.
If I could describe it like a drawing it would be full of lines that cross over one another. Leaves and branches that broke and mend into each other. Flowers that mingles and become a new and strangely beautiful hybrid flower. If I could describe it as a pastry, it would be a lemon and vanilla cupcake. Soft and with mixtures of sours and sweet. The frosting as light as air and with a mixture of happiness and sorrow that makes you smile with tears in your eyes. Ava is the girl with bird wings and that's the main story of this plot, but not the most important one. Ava tells the story of her family since her great-grandmother and she tells it in a way that is not just telling a story, she draw pictures with her words. Makes the reality more personal and bring her story close to our hearts. She is like a story teller that makes even the normal events look like magic. In fact, if you ever watched a French movie you get what I'm saying. French people have a way of telling stories that makes you see magic even in the simple things. It makes you see life with new eyes. I guess that's more of the writing than the plot itself, but nevertheless, it’s a great plot. A series of misfortunes love stories that end up in the birth of twins. One girl with wings and a boy , a very peculiar boy.
I can honestly say that one is totally different from the other, and every one of them are alive and have their own ways and personality. I can't say I love them all, but I can say each one of them marked me in singular ways. Even when I want to punch them in the face, I know why they do what they do.
Personally I think that this is the most important part of it all. If the book is a living thing, the writhing is its soul and personality. The writing in this book is the fairy dust that makes the readers fly without wings. It's gentle, it's heartfelt, it's beautiful like a dance and sweet like a fine pastry. I'm looking forward to read more from this author.
Her gentle tone and simple way of reading went beautifully with the spirit of the story. I really like her reading and the interpretation of the characters. I'll look for others audiobooks read by her.
This is, as always, the part where I talk some spoilers so if you don't want to know too much, I would advise you to stop reading.
ok, so if you are reading this, I can only say : You've been warned.
At the beginning of this story I was expecting a crazy story about a girl with wings. Maybe some curse and stuff like that. A prince and some cruel witch to make it more interesting and make the happy ending all the better. I was wrong. So, so, so wrong. And I love the fact that this book is not what I was expecting because it turned out to be much better than my expectations. It's the story of a girl that was born with bird wings and, that is one of the parts that really got my heart, to each person in her life she was something different. An angel, a freak, a memory, everything except a girl, just a girl. In the story of her family, the long story of her family, love has always play a part, but this was a blessing and a curse. "love makes us such a fools" this is the heart of the whole thing. Love can be so wonderful, but it can be tragedy and pain and scars. You can take this story just as it is, a tell of a strange family and their misfortunes or, as I like to think of it, a tell about love and how it can change you from inside out. My mind is drifting here, I just have too many words and they ar all running away with me. This is what I could entangle in this moment. I wish I could be more clear, but I'm afraid my heart got in the way of my words in this one. ...more
