FUNNY BUSINESS by Desmond X. Torres is a rollicking, romantic comedy that reminds me of The Three Stooges movies. There is so much craziness going on that the reader continuously laughs from one page to the next. The author’s sense of humor is outrageous and lots of fun. This book has everything: laughs, love, romance, Russian mobsters, Brooklyn con men and one straight as an arrow policeman.
Our straight as an arrow policeman is Artie Dunleavy, who has been content to be a street cop for the past eighteen years. He is a true gentleman and lives his life accordingly. Recently divorced, his is lonely and started writing to fill up his time. He likes to write romance novels but uses a female pen name so his peers don't know what he is up to. He bases his romances partially on himself and on his female mechanic friend that he has fantasized about for some time.
He sells his book on Amazon, hoping to make a few thousand dollars; but when he wakes up the next morning, his book has sold over a million copies and he is now a millionaire. Book publishers start calling, wanting to print paperback books of his novel. When he finds out that Desiree Robb must make personal appearances to meet her fans, he knows he has a big problem. He needs to find a “sock puppet”, which in the computer world, is a fake person created to operate a scam.
Little does Artie know, is that a bunch of Brooklyn con artists used his book, by mistake, to set up a scam against Amazon. By picking the incorrect book online to buy, all the profit from the sale of the books went to Artie’s bank account and not to the scammers. Here’s where all The Three Stooges comedy comes in as these below average mobsters try to find a way to get their money back from Artie – or Desiree Robb.

Malicious Masquerade by Alan Cupp is a very fast paced story of a life of crime hidden behind a mask of fame and fortune. There are many twists and turns that make the reader feel he is sliding down a slippery slope of pain and confusion. But amidst all the trauma, a love affair starts to bloom.
Cindy Bedford is the daughter of Jasper Bedford, a very rich entrepreneur in the world of construction. She has led a spoiled life and now is going to marry the man of her dreams, Tyler Moore. But her dreams end abruptly when she is left standing at the altar. Not only has he disappeared, he stole millions of dollars from her father.
Cindy can’t believe any of this is true. She fears something terrible has happened to Tyler. She can’t accept that he never loved her. She hires a P.I. named Carter Mays to find him and learn the truth. What she doesn’t know is that her father doesn’t want Tyler found because he has a secret life hidden behind his façade as a decent, hardworking man. So he does everything possible to find Tyler himself. One twist leads to another and another and the truth finally comes out. Cindy is shocked to find out that her father is a hypocrite who has lied to her all her life. Everything she believed in was now destroyed and she has to pick up the pieces of her life and start over. With the help of Carter Mays, she may actually be able to do it.
This was a fun, energetic story whose characters were very true to life. It makes us realize that life is not always what it seems and sometimes, a lot of good can come from a lot of bad if we have the courage to look ahead and move on.

Within feet of meeting her he catches her scent and realizes this job may have just taken on a complication he wasn’t expecting, Keira Ellis is his mate.
This is the first book by Ambrielle that I have read, and even though it is the 4th in the series, it reads quite well as a standalone. It was a very enjoyable read that sucked me in from the beginning, but about half way through the editing seemed to decline a bit, not really enough to be a distraction but was very noticeable. I also feel that the story started to get a bit rushed at about the half way mark. I really enjoyed the characters and would have loved to have had just… more.

Mainly because I didn't enjoy River Marked as much as the rest and I was scared that the series was starting to lose that special something that hooked me in book 1 and made me fall in love with this world that Patricia created. Thankfully my fears were unfounded and Patricia Briggs has proved to me why she deserves to be on my auto-buy author list.
Mercy is not your typical heroine, she's not as bad-ass as most yet she's not a feminine girly girl either, she's somewhere in-between. A mechanic by trade and a Walker by birth, with the ability to shapeshift into a Coyote. The extent of her powers is, as yet, unknown although being raised by werewolves has given her an edge and insight that has helped her a lot.
Throughout the series we have watched Mercy face seemingly insurmountable odds only for her to come out battered, bruised and occasionally bloody but on top. She has grow as a character and we finally saw her marry and settle down but with Mercy's luck you know it's not going to be as simple as living happily ever after. While on a shopping trip with her step-daughter her husband and their pack are kidnapped, on the run desperate to hunt down those who will do her family harm while protecting those who remain, the odds are once again firmly stacked against her. Trusting in allies old and new Mercy must stay strong if she wants to save those she loves.
What follows had me on the edge of my seat,my nails are a mess and I could swear my heart almost stopped at one point. It was an action packed journey that once again enthralled me from start to finish and I can't wait to see where the journey takes us next.

When I was asked to read this book I was a little wary, I usually prefer to read books in order and I haven't tried anything of Debbie's before but once I read the synopsis and realized it sounded like my kind of book I hesitantly agreed and when I sat down to dive in ALL my expectations where exceeded. In fact this series has now been promoted to auto-buy and I'm going to hunt down a copy of book 1 so I can read it in order and enjoy it all over again!
Samantha Ryan has been running from her past for most of her life, a tragedy as a child has left her skittish and unable to trust herself. Her memory has huge holes in it and she's afraid to fill them in in case she doesn't like what she finds. Samantha's choice to become a Police Detective shows her strength of character, she's unwilling to play the part of victim, instead she has chosen to be a voice for those who can no longer speak. Her sense of self has taken a beating, after her past and present collided and she has ran to the other side of the country to start afresh. Unfortunately the past isn't ready to let her go and it starts to creep into the new life she is making.
I don't want to spoil what happens for anyone but let me just say that this leg of Samantha's journey brought many surprises for me and her. If you like your urban fantasy on the darker side or you love a book with witches and magic and the unexpected then I can't recommend this one enough! I put this book down turned to my husband and said "Holy sh*t that was a good book".

There are few people. Even though she is terrified, she accepts help from a stranger who gives her food and a place to sleep. Soon, she learns the town harbors vampires and the few humans living there are used to feed them. She tries to leave but learns no one is allowed to leave and a supernatural barrier has been put up at the entrance to the bridge to force people to stay. Rylan Saintcrow is the superior vampire who set up Morgan Creek to hide vampires from the hunters out there seeking them. Those who wander in can’t leave but can lead a protected life; those not wanted are destroyed by Saintcrow. Kadie wants out but Saintcrow has other ideas. He is smitten and deems her his forever. Can he make her want him as much as he wants her?
Amanda Ashley loves her vampires. In As Twilight Falls, her latest paranormal adventure, Ms. Ashley describes in considerable length the workings of a vampire. She wants us to understand how solitary they are, caused more by need than anything else. She makes us understand that, in order to survive, they must hide all signs of humanity. They must always be one step ahead of their hunters. Relationships with humans are always rejected because they always outlive their lovers. Relationships with other vampires don’t last long because self-preservation is of the utmost importance and trust can never be established. The more Kadie pushes Rylan to be more human, to find ways to solve problems without killing, he knows he is doomed. The more she pushes, the more he cares about her but he tries to make her think she is only a possession to him. Until the day arrives when he knows this is not going to work anymore. He has to make her understand how much he cares and how much he wants her in his life, as a partner not as a possession.
The passion that is shown from the first page to the last page has drawn me into being a more avid Amanda Ashley fan than ever before. The worlds she opens may be fantasy but she makes us think with our hearts as well as our heads and for this reason, I give this book 5 stars.

BEAUTY AWAKENED, the 2nd installment of Gena Showalter's Angels of the Dark series is finally here and it was so worth the wait!
The book starts off with a young Koldo at the age of 7 years old. This was by far the most heartbreaking chapter I have ever read. A little boy starved for his mother's attention and love and getting nothing but hatred and abuse in return. No matter what he did to please her, she hated him and punished him more. We finally learn what happened to Koldo's wings and I sat here with a box of tissues balling my eyes out through this chapter. We also find out who his father is and I just can't decide who was worse, his mother or father. I finally decided they were both just as equally horrible. Poor Koldo!
Koldo is a warrior in Zacharel's Army of Disgrace, a group of warrior angels that are in danger of falling. I loved Koldo when he was introduced in WICKED NIGHTS but now he has my heart forever. I'm a sucker for the tortured souls and we all know Koldo went through torture when we learned his wings were removed but in this book we learn the full extent of the hell and anguish he went through. Koldo was the warrior with few words and no emotions, but he does have emotions. He just covers them up and pretends to not care because he is scared of rejection. Through everything that he has been through he still fights for what's right and he's a hero which he proved in WICKED NIGHTS when he made huge sacrifices to save his leader Zacharel. When he learns to open up and discovers his feelings for Nicola he is also very possessive but in a sweet, melt your heart kind of way.
Nicola and her twin sister Laila were born premature and with underdeveloped hearts. They have lived their lives not truly living at all due to fear of overdoing it and having a heart attack. They both know they don't have long to live but they are too weak and scared to fight. Nicola isn't a kick ass hero like Annabell was in WICKED NIGHTS but she is awesome in her own rights. Nicola is the stronger sister, always looking out for and taking care of Laila who is the weaker more afraid sister. She's easy going but not a doormat and she's not afraid to stand up for herself and let anyone push her or her sister around. She's kind, good hearted and funny and I really enjoyed her character.
Koldo first notices Nicola while on a mission in a hospital. He finds Nicola leaning over a very sick, almost dead Laila. He notices right away that they are both being poisoned by demons who are shadowing their every move and are filling them with toxins. They feed on their fear, sadness, pain, doubt and any other negative emotions and the demons are slowly killing them both. Koldo takes an interest in Nicola and decides he's going to teach her how to get rid of the demons and keep them away for good. Because to have any shot at living, they need to keep the demons away for good.
A lot of the healing Koldo teaches Nicola and Laila was all about the power of positive thinking. Some people may be put off by this but I truly believe that positive thinking does help. If you think negative thoughts then those thoughts will start to bring you down. We may not have demons sitting next to us feeding us negative thoughts and toxins like the sisters do, but to me negative thoughts and words are toxins. If you think negative about yourself you start to believe it and live it. I love how Gena incorporated this into her story.
This book is NOT full of steamy sex scenes like some of Gena's other books. There is pretty much one full on sex scene but there is plenty of sexual tension. Both Koldo and Nicola are virgins and Nicola needs to take things slow otherwise her heart can give out. This book has just the right amount of sex and tension for these two characters and I think Gena told their story perfectly! Honestly, I get tired of the hero and heroine jumping into the sack by the 100th page of most books. It takes a talented author to write a romance book with only one actual sex scene and keep it sexy but if anyone can pull it off its Gena and she totally nailed it!
We get to see a lot of Axel and Thane is this book. While Axel acts extremely immature, you can't help but LOL at his crazy antics and the absurd things that come out of his mouth. Thane was on a mission to take out the demons responsible for killing someone they all cared dearly for. AND….for all you Lords of the Underworld fan girls out there, William makes an appearance! Squee!!
Overall this book was incredible! It was heartbreaking at moments and LOL funny the next. It was sexy without a lot of sex and full of non-stop action. BEAUTY AWAKENED pulled me in from the very first page and consumed me to the last.

Fischer is the second in a series of hilarious books about a variety of students, some human but most not, who attend Scary School for a variety of reasons. At the end of the first book, the students of Scary School won the Ghoul Competitions and their prize was a trip to meet King Zog, the Monster King in Albania. Now, the students were getting ready for their trip with much anticipation. The new school year also brought an influx of new students; each with their own zany story about their background and life. Meeting the Monster King brings many new problems for the kids of Scary School, starting with the King’s daughter running away to Scary School.
This book is just as crazy and hilarious as the first. All the students at Scary School are unique in their own way and each one teaches a life lesson as we learn more about them. The stories are funny and the characters are zany and this is a great way to teach children the importance of accepting everyone for what they are!
My son has ADHD and HATES reading and we have a hard time finding a book that will grab his attention and hold onto it through the entire book. He LOVES The Scary School books and he looks forward to reading them. He remember everything that happens throughout the book which he has hard time doing with other books, even with us stopping to giggle and laugh throughout the whole book. I'm so happy to have discovered these books.
Definitely a 5 star book for fun-loving readers of all ages....more

Lara runs for many years trying to escape the pain and the fear of what happened to her and to escape the police who constantly hound her because she can’t remember anything of the attack. But when her grandmother dies and leaves Lara her home in Austin, Texas, she decides to hide there and try to have a life. Until the day that Texas Ranger, James Beck, tracks her down to tell her the Strangler is still claiming victims and he wants her to keep trying to remember what happened. Little by little, the clues keep pointing in Lara’s direction and Beck believes he is back to settle the score. Can Lara remember anything to help find this serial killer?
Mary Burton writes a very compelling and poignant story of how the mind can block out everything it wants to when we really don’t want to remember. The story moves quickly and we feel Lara’s pain and her desire to try and put her life back together. The suspense of trying to figure out who is after Lara keeps pulling us further and further into the story and just when we think we have it all figured out, a twist ends the story with a big, “Huh, what just happened here?” The story is engrossing and terrifying. Yet through it all, a love story starts to develop and the reader is happy to find that Lara can finally, hopefully, find happiness.

Lana Harvey is a Grim Reaper, as far as Grim Reapers go she is an 8th generation and relatively young. Lana isn't your typical by the book Reaper like her friend Josie, instead she likes to find the loopholes and exploit them a little. She's not afraid to twist the rules slightly to get a better outcome. When she receives an unexpected promotion from her boss, Grim, she is pulled deeper into the politics involved in reaping and thus a story of intrigue, deception and mystery is born. Just who is behind everything and who can she trust? The lines are becoming blurry and not everyone is as it seems at first glance...
When you hear the words Grim Reaper you usually have a very definite picture in mind, stereotypical yes, but true nonetheless. Lana on the other hand is a very different type of reaper and I am glad of that! Angela has created an interesting world for her reapers to live in, there are so many good points about this book. I loved the different myth's and mythologies incorporated into the book, the many different 'heavens' or final resting places based on the soul's belief's. The hell hounds were a bright spot too. I did find it a little slow in the beginning but I definitely think it was worth sticking with, it really picked up towards the end and I am looking forward to seeing what trouble Lana can get into next!

Zach is one of six boys in the Montgomery family and he has always been labeled the wild child of the bunch, moving away from the family he became an actor. Making movies allows him to travel extensively and provides cover for his other job - that of a CIA operative. On location for his latest movie he becomes aware that his cover is blown and it's a challenge to get home in one piece. There's a hit on him and he does not know where to turn.
Jenna Walters has had enough of her abusive husband and is making plans to run away taking her son with her, unfortunately her husband returns early before she can finish her escape. Climbing over her garden wall and hiding in her neighbors pool house seems like a good idea at the time. Jenna and Zach are both on the run can they help each other or will they be a danger to each other? Both have secrets, both have people after them and they have lots of chemistry, fortunately or unfortunately they also have Jenna's son Sam with them, he's too young to understand just how much danger they are in and why which may just put them in more danger!
I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, it was full of tension and angst and although I did see a lot of the plot twists coming Robin did a fabulous job of interweaving them all connecting all the dots. I loved getting to the bottom of Zach's secrets, I really enjoyed the rest of the Montgomery's finally opening their eyes and seeing him for who he truly is. Lots f secrets came to light in this one and I'm looking forward to seeing the fallout in the next one!

Jazz is a female sniper on Jefferson County's SWAT team, she has worked hard to not only get the position but to prove that it was the right choice. Jazz has been running for most of her life, never letting people in - it was one of the main issues between her and her ex-boyfriend, reporter Luke Montgomery. After a successful SWAT mission Luke writes an article about Jazz, catapulting her into the spotlight. Unfortunately Jazz has never quite felt that she fits in, by keeping her distance from her team members she has caused a rift, the rift grows bigger as Luke's article brings an enemy from her past into her present. Jazz has to open up about who she is in order to save those she cares about.
I really enjoyed this one, lots of angst and tension and the characters are intriguing. Like most first in series books it was the secondary characters that kept catching my attention and I can't wait for their turn in the spotlight. The parts that stood out for me where Jazz, having cast a female in a typically male profession and having her succeed was inspirational. The Montgomery family on a whole, I enjoyed the glimpses into their lives an their interactions and Joy. I enjoyed her presence in the story.

After a brutal mugging and vicious attack 6 years ago, Kat Thayne suffers from panic attacks and is scared to trust anyone. Scarred on the inside and out, Kats passion goes into her baking at the Sugar Dancer bakery she owns. She comes from a rich and prestigious background but wants no part of it anymore. Kat's mom and her ex fiance, David are bringing a blockbuster Alzheimer's drug to market--its in the final stages of FDA approval and her parents and David have a very close relationship. Closer than Kat is to her own parents. They don't consider Kat smart enough to be a part of what they are working on but they want her working for their pharmaceutical company. Her parents can't understand why she is wasting her chemistry degree and time in a bakery when she could be working for them. It also doesn't help that they take the side and word of David over hers.
Kat has been having flashbacks of the attack and she knows something is off. The way her fiancé told the story of what happened during the mugging varies from the memories she's been having and he just blows her off by telling her she's just confused from the concussion and memory loss when she tries to get answers. He has her parents believing the same thing so there is no one Kat can trust or confide in. She's tired of being scared and not knowing the truth about what happened.
Sloane Michaels has everything. He's a powerful businessman, a UFC fighter, has lots of money, super good looks, a hot body and he's worked his butt off to get where he is today but he's still not content. He came from a home where his mother jumped from man to man looking for her prince charming to come in and swoop her off her feet but that never happened and Sloane and his sister were left fending for themselves. When his sister is brutally murdered, Sloane's whole life changes. He is taken off the streets by a man that becomes his mentor and helps him focus his rage and hatred into something productive. That's how Sloane started the UFC fighting. It was an outlet for his anger and aggression. Now, the man that murdered his sister is getting out of jail. Sloane has been waiting and training for over a decade for this day to come. Now he can extract the ultimate revenge. He's got it all planned out and nothing or no one will get in his way.
Sloane attends a party and sees Kat hiding in a corner of the room. He knows he's seen her before somewhere, so he approaches her but she does not remember him and leaves to get away from his attentions before she has a panic attack. While Kat is leaving she is attacked in the parking lot and Sloane is there to kick ass and save the girl. And that's when he remembers who she is. He met her when he was 18 years old working as a bus boy at the place Kat's family was throwing her a Sweet 16 party. Sloane HATED Kat back then. She had everything; doting parents, money, a pampered little princess that had everything while he had nothing. He can tell that Kat is not the same person she was back then and he is intrigued by her from the moment he sees her again.
After Sloane saves Kat he pursues her and makes her a proposition. He will train her how to fight and defend herself if she becomes his plus-one; attend galas, parties and events with him as his date. Oh yeah, and have hot & steamy sex with him! Kat is tired of being scared and not having a normal life. She hates the scars on her body and is self conscious about them but she decides it's time to change and take control back of her life.
Sloane and Kat's chemistry is off the charts! You can feel their intense attraction and their time together will leave you sweating. Their stories are both heartbreaking, inspirational and believable. You can't help but love both characters.
Jennifer Lyon has given us another incredible story with characters that will stay with you after you put the book down. You feel Sloane & Kat's happiness, sadness, pain, passion and determination as you read their story and that is the product of great writing. There hasn't been a book yet that Jennifer Lyon has written that I have not loved and I cannot wait to find out more about Kat & Sloane. I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a sexy contemporary romance! I can't wait for May 28 to get here so I can get my hands on POSSESSION, the second book in The Plus One Chronicles.

Riveting from the first page, Ms. Elliot weaves a very detailed story of a missing school bus filled with children returning home from a trip, never to be heard from again. Twenty long miserable years later, a bunker is unearthed which holds the skeletons of the missing children. All hell breaks loose as old wounds are opened.
Michael Brody is a hard-nosed journalist, son of a senator and nephew to the governor, whose brother Daniel was one of the missing children on the bus. But his body was never found in that bunker. Neither was the body of Chris Jacobs, but in his case, his sister Jamie, has known for many years that he escaped the bunker somehow and made it home from that living hell two years later. But, at the age of eighteen, he left home and went into hiding, knowing that the Ghostman was going to find him and murder him one day. Jamie never saw him again.
Now Michael wants to find out what really happened twenty years ago, and wants to find his brother, if he is actually alive after all these years. He tries to get Jamie to help him; wants to talk to Chris but Jamie will not help. She wants her brother left alone, until she is attacked by a crazy man who wants to find her brother. Then she knows she needs Michael’s help whether she wants it or not and the two set off on a terrifying trip to uncover the truth.
An extremely involved and detailed story of love and betrayal, good versus evil and a nail biter in every sense, I happily give this book 5 stars....more

Book Monster Guest Review by Michelle M.
Lara Nance is a new-to-me author and I can honestly say I will be reading more of her work. My first thought on finishing this book was "I wonder how long it will be until the next one is out, if it isn't already..." and I'm going to find out as soon as I finish typing this! I have a tendency to split Steampunk books into two types - 1) books that rely heavily on machines & inventions and 2) those that use technology to enhance existing plots. I would put this story into the latter category, even going as far as to say it's a mix of mystery and adventure.
Lady Arabella or Belle is a likeable character, she's a strong woman that stands up for what she believes in even if it means going against societal norms. She is a nice mix of strength and innocence which gave a refreshing touch to the story. As we join her on her journey to save her kidnapped father we meet a very diverse and interesting group of characters, there are lots of twists and plenty of action along the way. The ending sets the scene for the next book perfectly and I can't wait to join them on the next leg of their adventure. ...more

While going through her mothers possessions, Mina finds a box that contains letters of correspondance from her mother and a man that is supposedly her father and finds out... More > that her father is very much alive and living in Germany. Struggling with the decision of going to Germany and finding her father, Chloe finally convinces Mina to take the journey. Enter Mathias (yummy, yummy Mathias). Mathias is the general of Coteri Kingdom and King Roderick's most trusted warrior. Mathias is given the task of watching over Mina until Roderick (Mina's father) tells him it's safe to bring her to the kingdom. Mathias is instantly attracted to Mina and tries to ignore the feelings and emotions that are arising between the two, because it is forbidden for any Coteri to mate with humans. But as they both give in to their feelings for each other, Mina learns the truth of her existence, her father's reason for leaving and the many betrayals of the people that Mina loved and trusted most. This book is filled with adrenaline packed action, smokin' hot love scenes and a new spin on shapeshifters. I quickly fell in love with the unique characters and the world of the Coteri. I loved the secondary characters as well. Chloe, Roderick, Tremayne (Tre) and Talon are funny, lovable and honorable. Talon's books will be the second book in this series and I can not wait!!! Gayle and Robyn have created an amazing world and I am looking forward to much more from this series!! I give Infinite Betrayal - 5 STARS Carla - Book Monster Reviews...more
