Her writing style is unique in that she can cover so many different themes, and yet keep the focus running smoothly. Fatal Affair (book #1 in a series) has all the elements that captivate a reader: romance, suspense, crime of passion, gore, sex, danger, love, and mystery. Usually, I guess the "who" in "who did it" books, but I'll admit I was not expecting the ending. Marie Force does not allow too much until she wants the "who" to be known. Amazingly, with so much going on, the main characters Nick and Sam, maintain in the front while the strong secondary characters add to their storylines. A U.S. Senator, John O'Connor, is murdered in his own house and Sergent Sam Holland is given the case. She is threading on thin ice and needs this case to redeem herself from a recent "bad" case. The senator has been dismembered, so she decides it is a crime of passion. The only problem is Sam must deal with the Senator's staff advisor, Nick Cappuano, a man she shared a single night with 6 years earlier. A man she has never forgotten. Sam soon realizes Nick wants more than she can offer. Her focus must be solving the murder. Can she avoid her feelings? Even if she wanted to, it would be unethical to become involved with a material witness. Or would it be? The case uncovers secrets the Senator had kept hidden even from his best friend Nick. These secrets open up many suspects until some of the suspects end up murdered as well. As more people die, Sam and Nick work together to find the killer before another person dies. In constant close proximity, Sam and Nick open the door to a love they have held inside for 6 years. As the case unravels, Sam finds herself as a target, and nearly walks away when her car blows up. Is the attempt on her life because she is getting too close to the killer? Was the Senator's murder political or the act of a jilted lover? The answer will be surprising.

The Wreck has a little of everything from romance, supense, danger, sex, heartache, and grief. Just my kind of read.

One True Love is a story about second chances. The main character Lisa and Nick had divorced after the sudden death of their baby. The devestation that ended the marriage will ultimately be the thing that brings them back together. Their love is a love that knows no bounds, yet sorrow and pain lead them to seperate paths. 8 years later they are forced by circumstance to revisit the pasts painful memories, acknowledge their love for one another, and heal old wounds. It is a story anyone can relate to in love and in loss. Freethy is not the wighy washy unrealistic writer that others tend to be. Her story is realistic yet captures the elememts of passion, sex, and love so that the reader is captivated.
Her scenes of passion are thrilling and exciting. This is my favorite of her books so far. I will read this one again!!! (less)

The main character, Jessie, is introduced as a prostitute wanting freedom from her pimp Spence. She has been with Spence since she was released from the foster care system, mainly because she feels she has no where to go. Jessie lacks confidence and feels that she is her title "Whore." She meets a cop who is trying to gather information about Spence's Mofia connections. Huffman portrays Jessie and Gabe's love as "love at first sight." It is unrealistic and doesn't give the lead up to love, passion, and chemistry that makes love stories enticing. The inital dialogue is too simple and lacks description. Finally half way through the book, the plot thickens. Jessie's journey takes the reader through escaping the mofia, starting a new life, pregnancy, attempted murder, corruption in the police force, and eventually marriage. I think Huffman's plot never reached the level she intended. Starts slow, speeds up suddenly, and then fizzles in the end. It is free, so good book to read if you have nothing else to read. Glad I didn't pay for it. (less)

A reader will find laughter, sadness, and anger within the struggles these two friends encounter. Judy Blume's adult books are as good as her children novels. EXCELLENT read.(less)
