Anywho, I checked the Good Reads list for last year and apparently this book won. So I'm giving it a shot. Like all books I haven't read the blurb or reviews etc. So I'm going in blind on EVERTHING! From genre to plot. Cross fingers it deserves the title.
EVER. SINCE. THE. BARBEQUE. If I never hear that fucking sentence again it'll be to soon. I'm only a few chapters in and throughly annoyed.
So far BEFORE the BBQ all was right in our characters world and it was all just so peachy keen, thank you very much. AFTER the BBQ we have a husband going through a midlife crisis and a anxiety ridden musician wife. Yawn. And if the latest chapters anything to go by; a brazen scarlet for a neighbor lol
I'm really struggling to get enthused about this one but I'll continue in the hopes like most novels it gets better...more

Whether it be locations, organisations, or real life people with real life proof of their connections. It makes it better and yes scary; for the grains of truth.
Im absolutely terrified about the possibility of someone creating matter and anti matter. I sincerely hope it's not true nor possible. I love the back story of the scientist father, daughter team. And I gotta say . . Langdon having just seen matter and anti matter created before his eyes still can't bare to believe illuminati lives? RREEAALLLYYY.
I mean no disrespect to anyone. And no I will not debate it. But, the "Great Castration" seems to me to be well and truly alive in the church today. Centuries on. Church dignitaries hiding their darker sides behind something as frivolous as statues insisting lust pffft. I do like that men and woman must cover their legs within the Vatican. Seems equal somehow.
Hmm I wonder if it's true about the Vatican and it's wealth. Holy mother of words I'm quite enjoying this book. I'm utterly lost amongst the science, literature, art, language etc so I can't predict or collaborate on the chase lol but enjoy it all the same.
I have to say I'm disappointed that the lady took a document from the archives. A moment to get a pen and paper could save the document for future reference and damage. You lose that, you lose the cardinals. Speaking of vaults. If the Vatican truly does have one in real life, I hope to god they allow copies of their collection.
And the news reporter! Grr. Whether the killer was a fake nor not, he should've alerted the authorities. But no, let's just show up, begin rolling and capture a murder shall we? The informant is either a sicko, murderer or in over their head and need help. Tell someone!
I both love and hate the end plot. But what an end it was....more
This one popped up on my feed. Read the review and just HAD to read.
Well the story kicks of quite interesting with an epic on-screen debacle.

I'm liking Lilith right of the bat. She's sassy, free, and not one to take bull shit laying down that easy. Her tenacity is one I like as well. She's an artist, with a twist, which I'm finding quite sexy lol her observation skill is a bit hit and miss with me. It's a little to convenient. But hey, whatever moves things along.
I initially thought we were going to be reading about a filthy drug den and all that inhabits them. Turned out I was wrong. I initially suspected Finn and Blaine were the druggie and his girlfriend. I was pleasantly wrong. I initially thought I'd dislike Finn. That is yet to be determined.
SCENE WATCH: Ice + Cristal = Whoa lol nuff said :)
I'm quite disappointed with Lilith. Clearly something is wrong, yet still she stays, still she does nothing. A person . . SHIT SCARED of someone, as she eloquently put it, is being abused on a more than normal basis.
If Blaine tries to shove Finn down my throat one more time . . and again, you can't seriously NOT get the creeps and NOT leave the place. The woman is as obvious as a bitch in heat. While Finn and the butler whimper around like whapped dogs. *Sigh* Now I know why :(
Oh Blaine honey. You really have no idea who you're messing with lol. I don't like that she extended her reach to animals as well.
Can I say how DISGUSTED I am with the "Guests" only because of how prominent they are. To know these people are held in high regard by society disgusts me.
Gah, I'm struggling to find a way out. All three could flee but they'd have no evidence against Blaine. With her connection shed get away with it all. I like Finn's idea he had earlier. It truly is the only way.
Oh God, I just had a Zsadist moment :( so wrong on so many levels. So even if the trio elope, they'd have to go to London now as well. Well, I'd hope they would.
I gotta say, not as graphic in terms of details, which I highly appreciated. But, it's worse for the blanks your own mind is able to fill in :(
I'm a little shocked Blaine doesn't have contingency plans in place for when things go tits up as it did. And quite spectacularly. Unless, they hid their tools and intentions? Again, I'm sceptical Blaine would allow such staff incompetency to slide. Little own messing up the jewel of her crown and all the mess that needed tending to BECAUSE of it.
I really like the musician. He's a genuine nice guy. As much as I don't mind Finn, dude has issues. Rightly so. But, they're deep, dark, ugly ones that will make or break you, and aren't for the faint of heart. And honestly, I connected more with the musician and so to did Lilith to some extent. I'm still unsure what attracted her to Finn. Or vice versa. I guess its that slow steady building of a real relationship? they did have some beautiful moments.
Speaking of the musician . . Why didn't I think of that lol which means we'll see buckle again. soon no doubt. Ok, I got the musician involvement wrong. I'm still chuffed they managed the rescue though.
I'm still mystified at the hostilities from Blaine. I understand Finn is a diamond dozen, and hes been playing up, but for her to allow things to go beyond what I'm guessing is normal doesn't seem right. She's a bitch, but most of its mental not physical.
Haha I had it right! knew he'd play a role! Kudos to em. Well, I'm a bit blah on the ending, but it's what I was hoping for. A take down from the INSIDE. It's definitely not the last we hear of Blaine, but im desperate to see this finished once and for all. I wanna see her taken down to base level. So I'm going to carry on to the next novel if there is one.
All in all, it wasn't as bad as I know it could've been. I dont know what that says about my reading habits, or if its just so common for authors to use such things as shock factor, or if its a sad state the world's in.
I still didn't get overly attached to anyone, but they weren't god awful. The plot was nothing strenuous which made for quick easy reading. All in all, not bad....more

I'm finding the two male leads a bit lacking at the moment which isn't unusual, but for all the power they have, for all that they're a dying breed, they get trounced and scared quite a bit. I like our female lead. Girls got spunk. Her side kick to. Plot wise? not sure what's going on which is a good thing lol. It's all so new, so I'm unsure of the rules or characters. But we shall see. I'm slowly getting my wit's about me. I'm kind of liking how magic has taken on a life of its own. Plots a little slow now that things are smoothing out. Have to say, mighty clever ruse the magic is bandying about ;) In all honesty though? I'm reading out of OCD at this point with a hint of actual interest. its taking to long to finish, keep checking progress :( and keep getting easily distracted. NOT A GOOD SIGN. I'll keep going though. I'm finally finished. Well it ended ok. Wasn't the most epic ending ever. Nor the most exciting or thought provoking. I found the novel to be a quick, easy, stress free read. Perfect for a weekend read, or commute. One for teens, tweens alike....more

I quite enjoyed Baden and his lady love. Baden's gruffness is typical alpha stuff. his lady is the typical don't tell me what to do female. Nothing new or exciting there.
What makes them enjoyable is there upfront nature's. They didn't go to overboard with the . . I couldn't tell you cause, blah, blah routine. They told it straight and true most of the time.
The side characters are still a buzz though I can see a few whod annoy me. Their stories are plotting along quite exciting like :)
Plot wise, I had a hate, love, relationship with it. I just found the terminology a bit to in my face. It felt VERY much like a well known tv celebrity was talking through our girl. It didn't hamper nor dampen the relationship but it did begun to irk me. I Understand it, but didnt like it.
They had some quite neat stuff happening with them actually despite it all.
the romance and action was very much present. Which kept the book exciting, sexy and just a little naughty....more

Flash back if you will. It's confusing. I find the writing as erratic as the novel's characters. I don't mind the characters or story but it's definitely not giving me the excited rush of finding a new found favourite.
FINALLY FINISHED - SIGH OF RELIEF - In some twisted way I was sick of, bored of, this novel but . . my OCD wouldn't let me leave until I had finished the novel. I can wrap the novel up in a nutshell. 90% if the novel is about an alcoholic falling on and off the waggon so fast I got whiplash! while lamenting the fact everyone seems to dislike said alcoholic. I found the plot grossly anticlimactic yet WTF all the same. Anticlimactic in that it was all over some ego trip. How pathetic. WTF in that I didn't see it coming.
I found all the characters fucking nuts. Authorities included. To write someone of because they're alcoholic is disturbing. Though I understand. All men were nothing but bombs. The woman sorely lacking. But hey, tis life. I found it absurd the stupidity of some of the antics from all parties involved. It made no sense to me.
It took days to finish, which isn't a good sign. Better luck next time. Can't say I'd recommend....more

He's overbearing but does try so hard to do right by Leah. It works in reverse to. She tried, failed, but still manned up and owned it. Both did it without seeming selfish, or childish.
I didn't get the "Bad Guy" heebies from the Bad Guy. He seemed weak and cowardly from the start. Hiding behind anyone, everyone. I got more of a vibe from the necromancer. I'm looking forward to that.
I found the back stories interesting enough. I enjoyed the side characters as well. I enjoyed the little cameo from bones, cat, mencheres etc.
