I have completely devoured every book in this Bloodlines series as well as its preceding Vampire Academy series and The Fiery Heart was no different. I love Adrian he's one of the best male leads I've ever had the pleasure of entertaining myself with fantasies of. He's all at once strong, witty, smart, impulsive, dependable, and at times down right silly ..... did I mention sexy and romantic. Adrian is the whole package and even when he spirals downward it's relatable and relevant and truly captivating. Sydney on the other hand while enjoyable I hardly say I'd count her as one of the greatest ever (she's certainly no Rose) but I like her she's smart (obviously that's kind of her whole thing) but she's also caring, she cautious but she thinks well on her feet, I wouldn't say she's impulsive but she can be whimsical. I think this book and her relationship with Adrian have brought out a different side to her character. She's no longer the same up-tight, prejudice, too smart for her own good, order following, zombie Alchemist that I met in Russia with Rose. She's become a lot more likeable, relatable even as just a girl finding her way to herself trying to weigh the things she was raised to believe with things she's discovering for herself. My point being this was definitely my favorite book in the series thus far and my only real critic (if you can call it that) is that it was over too soon and the cliffhanger was too big.... I must have more!! July 2014 is like 7 months from now that's not nearly soon enough(less)

I'm not even sure I'm interested in reading the rest of the series except that the concept is so good and original that I can't even attempt to guess at the resolutions to come.
May 11 2013 - The concept for this story is fantastic but the story telling needs some work. More than half way through and Gemma is still the victim she is constantly being saved and even when she's safe for a moment she's a slave to her emotions and makes constant mistakes regarding the way she's perceived she's like a little white mouse in a snake pit you feel bad for her but you don't really route for her. Then there's Alex and he's just plain not likeable most of the time. He's supposed to be holding back pushing her away because of his duty and honor but he is constantly touching her and giving into the connection and then throwing it back in her face like it's all her and she's some type of psycho stalker or seductress or something. I feel like maybe if I had found the YA version first I may have liked the story better because a lot of what throws everything off is the constant detours into sexy time. Don't get me wrong the intimate sciences are well written, they just seem out of place to me. I feel like they were thrown in to make up for a lack of real connection. Having said a this there is still time for both characters to redeem themselves and the concept is interesting enough to keep me hanging on till the end.(less)

Claire is still a smart and kind of manipulative player in this game and Shane has become probably one of my favorite characters of all time their relationship has become very real in a lot of ways but still romantic when it's appropriate I think my biggest problem is with the vampires they've become too easy to defeat to docile and Claire has become their savior which is too much. Though Claire admits as much to herself she plunges forward any ways. Then there's Eve who I used to see as smart and sarcastic and if not truly bad ass at least ballsey. Now I see her as whiney and arrogant she's constantly scolding Claire for doing what needs to be done when she doesn't do anything but commentary from the side lines well that and cry. In the end Claire is still an amazing lead and Shane has become more than interesting enough (spoiler...what's up with the dog bite I'm thinking werewolves in Morganville) I'm a devoted fan at this point so Daylighters here I come (that's the name of the next one Daylighters....)(less)
