The problem at the core of The Other Soldier is such a conflict-lock of a situation I couldn't see how it was going to end up at happy ever after. And Altman's warm, lovely voice makes her characters so believable that I was worried for all of them. Although this is an emotional book (as all my favorite Superromances are) there are touches of humor that made laugh out loud -and- twisted that emotional knife in deeper. Parker and Reid earn their happy ending and I loved reading their story.
I also loved the setting. Castle Creek is full of quirky characters that I very much hope to learn more about in future books. Can't wait to read the next one! (less)

It was light but also emotional, two of my favorite things in contemporary romance. It wasn't quite the keeper for me, that it was for my friend, but I was glad I read it and am interested in the next book in the series.(less)

I love all of her books but this book really stand out for me. After I finished it I googled a little and saw some very mixed reviews of it, but I wasn't bothered in the least by any of the things that some of the other readers struggled with. If anything, those were some of my favorite things about it. Go figure.
The secondary characters -- The Black Widows, etc., really make the book. I could so easily see this one on the big screen and I hope someday someone puts it there.

Higgins is such a fast read, and always so enjoyable. I didn't discover her until recently and have been happily reading my way through her backlist. I LOVED THIS BOOK! And I know I'll be rereading all of her books again, waiting for her next one to come out.(less)

I got "All I Ever Wanted" in a goodie bag at a recent writer's retreat. A retreat where I met Ms. Higgins herself. And having met her, I decided, wisely, I believe, to read her first published book first, rather than just jump in. So I did. THEN I read All I Ever Wanted. I really liked Fools Rush In, but I LOVED with a WHITE HOT HEAT "All I Ever Wanted." I'll say more about that when I review All I Ever Wanted.
Back to Fools Rush In. It whetted my appetite for moar Higgins books, which is really unusual for me because I often have a hard time getting into First Person POV. Not in this book, though, and not in any of the rest of the Higgins books I've read. I love this author's voice, I love the details she chooses and the locations and the situations. This wasn't my favorite of her books, storywise, but since it started me reading her it will always hold a special place in my heart. :-)(less)
