AMAZING.
without spoiling, i will just say that Tess Gerritsen hasn't lost her touch in the slightest. the last half of the book really picked up the pace big-time and had me guessing every time i turned around. i would love to see this plotline made into a series of sweep episodes on Rizzoli and Isles. (though i hope it's done after the show writers follow book canon in the case of Jane and a certain FBI agent ;) (less)

very original resculpting of some of the Greek mythos--and believably done as well. different, but not ridiculous seeming or so outlandish as to make it unbelievable/a detriment to the telling of the story.
nicely done and i would recommend fans of mythology with an open imagination give it a try as well.(less)

Elissa's story, of course, focused on what happens to girls and women, but there was mentions of what happens to many young boys. if you are interested in seeing the boy victims' side of the story, check out Lost Boy by Brent Jeffs.
many stories like Elissa's are out there, but i hope more continued to be published. while they are sad and shocking and, in some cases, sickening, they need to be told.(less)

in many words (no spoilers here): let me start off by saying that, from a young age, i've had a certain fascination with Henry VIII. he was powerful. he was spoiled. he was forceful. he was a player. all too often, he was an outright bastard. in short, he was anything but boring!
i've read some good books about the Tudor dynasty. i've read some mediocre ones. haven't really come across any bad ones--yet. most give you the view through the eyes of Henry himself. others give you the POV of the wives or daughters (see: Alison Weir, among others) or just general overall views of the man, the monarch, the history.
seeing things through the eyes of Jane Boleyn is a first. getting her story--the TRUTH of her story--is even better. she has been improperly vilified through history--the betrayer, the whore, the bawd, the "infamous Lady Rochford". in truth, Jane Boleyn was yet another victim of Henry Tudor's machinations in his quest to gain what HE wanted at the expense of everyone around him.
Ms. Fox keeps the events flowing at a good rhythm with lots of informative tidbits. definitely a book to read if you like Tudor history, Henry, or just want a good nonfiction read. but be warned--it might keep you up late!(less)

a gripping mystery-thriller. great characters (especially Pastor Joshua), vivid setting and some Civil War history mixed in with the main elements. also some good funny dialogue, which also makes the characters seem like real people.
i enjoyed this read very much.
my personal favorite funny bit:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * when the group is at the Dubose mansion overnight doing their ghost hunter work, and Precious (the ghost hunter/psychic...yes, his name is Precious, LOL) sets up for an electronic-voice-phenom (aka EVP) session, he asks the usual question: "Would anyone like to speak to us?"
Bethany (the pastor's wife) replies with "If anything answers, that front door is mine."
sounds like something i would say, LOL.
at any rate, a great read if you like spooky thrillers that are not full of gore.(less)

i love Bertrice's version of Elizabeth too (well except for a certain VERY horrid thing Elizabeth does to Skye that pisses her off and fires Skye's need for revenge...no spoilers here!). and having enjoyed the movie Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett, when i see the scenes in my head, i see Cate across from Skye. and Sir Richard Attenborough as Cecil, who really wasn't done justice in that movie. (but that's another subject ;)
