Attorney Joe Dillard is a 40-yr. old man, wife and kids, a horrible, but lucrative legal practice dealing with the worst criminally insane court-appointed clients a lawyer could ask for, and, at the end of the day, Joe was tired of the legal playing field. He wanted out!
After his last horrific criminal trial was over, he made a vow to himself that he would leave his law practice, unless he was able to get an innocent client. It was sort of a personal joke to him, until, night club owner, Erlene Barlowe, called and advised him he had to take her friend's case because she was innocent of killing a reverend. Hell, that wasn't enough for Joe. Every client he ever defended said they were innocent, so what would make this case any different? A quarter of a million dollars can change the minds of many, as was the case for Attorney Dillard.
Once he agrees to help her friend, the facts of this crazy case just gets more wild as you turn the pages. Outstanding story, and the ending was simply brilliant. Can't wait to read the rest of the Attorney Dillard series!(less)

When I say this book was awesome, that's exactly what I mean. This story had everything from murder to great legal-ese and all the mystery one can handle! I was so damn sorry the story had to end. I am praying Michael writes more legal novels because he's a brilliant writer.
Micah Grayson was fresh out of law school--had done some extensive clerking for a federal court judge back home in Kentucky, and he set his sights on the bright lights and hustle and bustle of New York City. When he interviews with a partner, who later turns out to be his mentor, Gabe Weiss, the lessons he learns from working in a huge law firm stretched even further than what Micah thought he was capable of.
The characters in the story are strong and so life-like. I loved how the author took you back to the past and mixed in the present with it. One thing I love is when an author can weave several stories together, leaving your mind in a whirlwind wondering what the hell is going on, and then when the story starts to take shape and the reader becomes one with all the plots and then--BOOM you're smacked with a damn good story and great ending to boot! If you love legal thrillers, this is the book to read. Lookout John Grisham, you've got some competition here. Michael I bet you're one hell of an attorney. I understood every single thing you did in this book. Outstanding. Looking forward to more work from you! BRAVO!!!!(less)

A modern day Bonnie and Clyde, the infamous Dexter and Pandora. They had no idea just how they were going to get their fame--robbing banks, a little murder along the way, how could they possibly hide with a reward out for them dead or alive?
So how does a couple hide when the entire country is hunting for them? Oh yeah, that's right, they stop in a town named Fairwood. Fairwood was a small town and the type of mentality that goes along with it, but Dexter and Pandora discovered something much more than the picturesque small town of Fairwood.
This book takes you on a wild psychological ride and holds you in suspense 'till the very end. OUTSTANDING read. OMG when you find out what was so unique about Fairwood, it may give pause to anyone thinking of doing what Dexter and Pandora did. I get chills just thinking about this story. I loved every hair raising bit of it!(less)

I enjoy seniors because of their knowledge and the way they view life, and that's why this is hard to give this book the rating I'm giving it. I did not like this book much at all.
I did enjoy the banter between Agnes and Eleanor, but I had a hard time finding the mystery in this story. It wasn't until I reached 95% of the book when all the dots finally connected. It was as if these two maturer women were all into funny antics, but not much investigating was really going on. I could never find where they were involved in the case, but they had a hell of a lot of funny things that happened to them that had absolutely nothing to do with this story.
The bottom line, there was too much goofing and not enough sleuthing for my tastes. Agnes referred several times about cracking the case, but unfortunately she left the reader out of it. I get that the viewing public has to do some of the thinking, but the story wasn't very forthcoming, and I found a lot of the characters to be disconnected and the storyline fell flat. I wanted so much to love this book, but it was painful for me to finish. Not what I would expect for a mystery. I can't even tell you seriously what this story was about other than two old ladies running around doing funny things, with a little death that turned up here and there. This would have been a better book had the storyline been told more from a private investigator's actual investigating.
The only reason I didn't give this story two stars was because I did enjoy reading about the seniors in the book, so that deserved one extra star, but for the story, wasn't my cup of tea! (less)

I never thought I'd find another book that even comes close to scaring the be-jesus out of me like The Exorcist, but I'm happy to say, if that even makes sense, that I found the Exorcist's match. This novel scared me so bad--how bad? I had nightmares the first night I began reading and scared to death of any stranger I met in my parking garage that even remotely appeared to want to start a conversation with me. This is one of those stories that you do not want anyone to surprise you while reading. My heart was racing so terribly and I balled up my fist so tight, clutching at my T-shirt and I had the nerve to wonder why my hand was hurting and why my heart felt like it was about to bust out of my chest! HORRIFYINGLY OUTSTANDING GOOD READ!
The Lamberts were your typical family wanting to get away from the city life for a bit of the great outdoors in the cabins set out in the woods of Pennsylvania. Stopping for gas, a harmless looking gentleman, also pumping gas, strikes up a conversation with Patrick about being Penn State alums, and he enjoyed his conversation with Patrick so much, he offered to pay for his family's gas. Patrick refused, but the harmless stranger wouldn't take no for an answer.
If Jaws made you terrified to go in the water, well this novel will make you think twice about that weekend getaway in the woods. Needless to say, strange occurrences began to happen to the Lamberts, and what soon became evident was their family's worse nightmares. I must say, I ended my October horror reads with a damn bang and I mean that in every sense of the word. My body is so sore from being locked to the horrible, vicious things that take place in this book.
If you are the squeamish type of reader, THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR YOU! I guarantee you, this book will scare the sh*t out of you! I know it damn sure did that to me. Jeff, my hat goes off to you. You're an outstanding horror writer!(less)

This is sort of like The Exorcist meet Freddie Krueger. There's a mixture of the two premises told here with a multitude of things going on, but J. Thorn did a really good job in making this story certainly his own. It's very dark and suspenseful, so much so, the reader has to continue to find out what the hell this demon is going to do next.
I love a good horror book for October, and this is one I'm glad I added. Drew was your typical go-to-work-take-care-of-the-family type of man, but was he so typical? Hmmm, Drew was fighting something much stronger than himself, and once you begin to delve into the main character's mind, his thoughts take you to a place you really don't want to linger too long. This was really a good psychological thriller. It truly does mess with the psyche a great deal. Don't read this with the lights out. LOL(less)

Dead people are supposed to be, just that, dead, but how would you feel if you were an M.E. and discovered that the body you were just about to cut a Y shape in, suddenly gasped for air? Well, that was enough to raise the hair on the back of my neck. When you're dealing with a corpse, that's what you'd expect--a dead person! But in the town of Savannah, Georgia, dead bodies were coming to life!
A zombie here and a zombie there--what on earth could cause such an occurrence? If you want to find out, you must read the book. It's very engaging, very suspenseful with many twists that will keep you guessing. I loved this story and the cover sold me right away. Enjoy!(less)

I lost my precious 'work sleep' so that I could stay up and finish the ending. I never lose my good sleep, when I have to get up so early in the morning for work, but that's just how damn good this book actually is!
It's been a very long time coming that I've read a story that was so coming-of-age and poignant! What an amazing story this was! Joseph Flynn did an outstanding job in bringing to light so many social issues we deal with today, as well as in our historical background. And what makes this story so unique is that he took a subject matter, that is rather unpleasant, kept the integrity of it and was so tastefully done, that the reader cannot help but to come away feeling better for having read it.
This novel holds two stories in one. The first being an African-American male is nailed to a dead tree. When Ron Ketchum and his partner, Oliver, stumble across the scene, all hell literally breaks loose! And if nailing black men to trees wasn't bad enough, there was another predator of the four-legged variety seeking prey to keep his fire burning--a mountain lion. Let me just tell you now, before anyone asks, that may sound like the strangest combination ever to read in a book, but I'm telling you these stories work and are outstanding, awesome, nail-biting, heart thumping great reads.
What the reader learns along the way as a murderer is walking free among the good citizens of Goldstrike, is indeed a life's lesson one is not likely to ever forget! Well, well done! I absolutely hated this book came to an end. (less)

One thing is for certain, Steven, the main character moves into a new home, trying to put the pieces back to his life, when around 3 a.m., someone or something knocks on his door. Of course, the very sleepy Steven goes to answer only to discover there is no one there! Umm, probably neighborhood kids playing an early Halloween prank? Aaaw, I don't think so.
What Steve finally realizes is he's dealing with something much more sinister than that--something not of the human persuasion!
Thankfully, Steve's father was able to assist him in this area, as he becomes closer to the father he wrote off, sort of, so long ago. The more he learns about his father, Roy, the more he discovers that he shares a special gift with his father, and together they can hunt down the most terrifying apparition!
This was a great horror book for my scary book reading. I absolutely loved it, and I know you will too! Keep the lights on when reading. ahahahaaaaaa(less)

Twins, Niles and Holland are a duo that are not quite like any other you've read about.
So many other novels come to mind, after having read this one, but it wasn't what I was expecting and that turned out to be a great thing. This story raised the hair up on my arms and neck. Twins are very intriguing, to say the very least, and what these two get themselves into, one could not possibly fathom.
I'm so glad I hadn't read this years ago. It's a pleasure to read classics every October. What an outstanding book. I believe there was a movie made from this story, and I'll have to see if it lived up to what the novel did? Hmmm, probably not, Hollywood always gets it wrong!(less)

This book is OUTSTANDING!!!! I could identify with each and every character in this book. Betty Jean, who was the main character, had some major issues going on. Being thrown into being a parent for a second time having to raise her grandsons.
Add an ill husband in the mix and two sisters that have their own fair share of problems, and you've got yourself one hell of a story, and what a story indeed!
You go through every emotion each of these characters face. I love how this book ended. Terry clearly demonstrates that even though you go through trials and tribulations, there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Betty Jean sacrificed so much and boy did it pay off in the end. Well, well done! I absolutely loved this story. This will stay with me much like Waiting to Exhale has all these years later. I'm sorry I read this book too fast, but it's that damn good! This is not just a good read, it's a GREAT read!(less)

I've always called Sidney Sheldon the Master of Plots, and I call him that for a very specific reason. He is THE MASTER OF ALL MASTERS! How he throws several stories into one and your mind is spinning trying to figure out what the hell is going on, by the time you get to the end and it comes together, you say, "A-ha!" He was such a brilliant writer and Lord knows I miss him. He's one of my favorites and one who made me want to go into writing.
This story was outstanding. Again, near the last few chapters, I got so damn frustrated because those twins, Eve and Alexandra were something else, or shall I say, Eve was something else. The good twin versus bad twin type of vibe going on. Alexandra angered me so much because she was so damn stupid and never saw the wrong in anyone. She was almost childlike, but even children eventually begin to suspect things, but not Alex. Eve, in my opinion, was short for Evil! That woman had some issues for real!
Sidney managed to go through an entire family dynamic in this book. From the ancestors all the way through the early '80s. To follow each generation was amazing. Katherine Blackwell's early beginnings gave rise to how the rest of the family would fair.
The ending was so classic Sidney! It was OUTSTANDING! OMG, I cheered at the end because it was so fitting! If you've never read this, trust me, you will love it! What an Awesome Read!(less)
